Sorry my man.  You're wrong.  Google "Maryland Confederacy" and there are literally thousands of articles regarding Maryland's partiality to the rebel side.  The eastern part of the state was solidly secessionist while the western side was pro-union.

the state never suceded and in fact passed a new constitution during the war that banned slavery...just because parts of the state were loyal to the south doesnt mean the state wasnt part of the union...which it indeed was

regardless it wasnt a southern state then and it isnt now

QuoteMaryland rewrote its constitution to outlaw slavery in 1864, and put it to popular vote on Oct. 13 of that year. It passed, but just barely, with 30,174 in favor of the change and 29,799 opposed.

Maryland was Union by occupation more than by spirit.  Union troops were attacked when they arrived in Baltimore, accounting for some of the first deaths of the civil war.

I don't care what that says about your silly arguments.

The south farging sucks and Lincoln should have let them secede.  We don't need 'em, they're a drag on the country in every goddamned way.  Higher divorce rate, higher teen pregnancy, lower literacy, higher poverty, lower education level, lower income, lower tax revenue, higher violent crime including murder and rape, etc.  farg the south.

Also, vigy is right about a lot and not least his comment that summer is the stillupfront of the seasons.

So how's it feel being a southerner now?

John Wilkes Booth was from Maryland.

Historically, Maryland was considered a "border state" in regards to slavery:  Pro-slavery, with enough pro-union sentiment to prevent it (along with Delaware, West Virginia- which seceded from Virginia during the Civil War), Kentucky and Missouri) from actually seceding from the Union during the Civil War.  Maryland's rejection of secession was greatly influenced by martial law being declared by the Federal government to stop riots in Baltimore (including firing on Federal troops that actually came before Ft. Sumter) and heavy-handed (and perhaps even dictatorial) actions by Lincoln to have pro-Southern legislators arrested and the writ of Habeas Corpus suspended.  The Federal government was NOT going to allow Maryland to secede and isolate the capital.  Maryland's abolishment of slavery during the Civil War was also at least partially influenced by the imposition of martial law.

Individual Marylanders were divided.  Thousands joined both sides of the conflict.  The governor of Maryland (Thomas Hicks) had pro-Southern leanings that were tempered by the politician's pragmatism in realizing that Federal troops were going to occupy Maryland whether they liked it or not.

Finally, let the U.S. Census Bureau settle it (via Wikipedia):

QuoteMaryland is classified by the U.S. Census Bureau as a South-Atlantic state.

Who cares what happened 200 years ago.  Get over slavery, it happened and is still currently occuring in Asia and Africa with the Gold and Diamond industries.  Focus you energy on that issue.

Get over it.  Ha.  YOU get over having dozens of generations of your ancestors deprived of good food, good medicine, education, having them killed and raped and worked to death, chained and locked away, their culture outlawed, their children stolen from them, and on an on.

You don't just get over it.  If your whole bloodline has been forcefully kept in poverty, filth, ignorance, etc then you don't just wake up one day and "get over it."  It takes generations to lift out of that, not some smug comment from a white guy who thinks you can get over slavery the same way you can get over and Eagles loss.

The older generations i do feel for, but the kids now who did not have to struggle thru the civil rights era, but claim that slavery still holds them back or has caused damages is laughable.

It's still hilarious to me that two of the bigger stereotypers and bigots on :CF are also two of the most liberal.

It's not a coincidence, though.  Liberals only pretend not to be bigots when in fact they are just as, if not more, bigoted than the people they persecute for bigotry.
