true...they're not a super bowl team this season but they're not a disaster either.  8-8 or 9-7, imo....10-6 with a little luck.

9-7 is the absolute ceiling for this team right now. The taterskins could very easily beat this team because the only thing their offense is good at is exactly what the Eagles are awful at defending. Dink. Dunk. Dink. Dunk. Shot down the field. Dink. Dunk. Dink. Dunk.

The Eagles, right now, could lose to any team in the league.

well they are at best 5-3 with a super easy sked,...so you figure they are at best 3-5 with a brutal sked

lets call it 7-9

The homer in me would love to think it's possible for this team to win 11 or 12 games.  After all, they really should be 6-1 right now, as the only team that truly outplayed them was the Saints.  That said, the combination of bad timing, lack of clutch plays, defensive shortcomings when the game's on the line, and no heart whatsoever means that 8-8 is far more likely.

They're losers.  This is the kind of season that should shake away some of the less die-hard fans.

I don't know who to blame anymore.  They all suck.   I'm just blaming Andy's weight problem.

ice grillin you

you have to wonder if andys lost the team

theres no accountability for anything...the george hegamin days are over

TO last year
mcnabb his whole career
trent cole
omar gaither
jerome mcdougle

something has to be done...some sort of statement...perhaps mcdougle will get cut today to do that but i doubt it

And that's fine. But to those I point to the 2002 portion of the schedule where evryone feared the Eagles having to play the 49ers on MNF, STL [2001 NFCCG re-match) at home, fly back to the West Coast to play SEA.

are you kidding me?....colts carolina giants and dallas are all better than any of the above teams you mentioned...plus three straight on the road in division is much harder than the scenario above you mention

the eagles were successful back then for two reasons the worst the division has ever been and ever will be and a all around horrible conference...plus they still had many of ray rhodes leftovers on defense

worst thread ever

The NFC isn't exactly full of world beaters this year either, IGY. Everyone was so scared of Washington, New York and Dallas. Tell me those teams aren't flawed.

Tell me Carolina is as good as people thought they'd be.

This is a stupid football team. But its week 7 - they can make a turnaround. Will they? We'll see. I know this isn't popular to support the team, but after cooling down from that horrible loss yesterday I'm not going to count them out. Why? Because even the 6-0 Bears are beatable.

Reid called a mandatory team meeting today when he normally gives them the day off. They had to come in and watch film, meet as a team and then go have meeting with the positional coaches.

So while everyone is digging the grave, I'll wait a bit before putting them into it.

i agree its not that great...but my point is that its better than it was back then and the sked this year if far more dificult than anything they faced in 02...so to use 02 as an example of why than can or will make the playoffs this year is disingenious imo

So while everyone is digging the grave

i dont know whos digging a grave...i would say most people in august said that the eagles could win the division but could also finish last...so the fact that they appear to be headed to around a .500 record is not digging a grave but being pretty realistic

I've seen and heard a lot of people saying "season's over" today. Granted some of it might be knee-jerk because yesterday still stings, but it's crazy to write them off so early. I'm not saying they are guaranteed to make the playoffs but I think that they have a good shot to win this divison because the NFC isn't anything special. And yes, it is better than the NFC was in 2002.

And this Eagles team can be better than that 2002 Eagles team. Crazy? Maybe. But this offense is a thousand times better. It's up to the defense to get right.

depends on what you define as over

superbowl - yes
playoffs - just about
gonna lose every game for the rest of the season - no

Anything's possible, but the most realistic expectation has gone from a top seed in the NFC to a possible fringe playoff contender.  This team doesn't have the mental capacity and killer instinct to do any better than 5-3 the second half of the season, realistically.

PhillyPhreak54

And the Steelers were, what, 7-5 at one point last year and backed into the 6th spot?

They (Eagles) should be better recordwise no doubt. But we don't know how they'll respond to having their backs against the wall. If they respond well and turn it on and eliminate the mental mistakes that have been killing them and finish strong then they have shown that they deserve to be there and do have the mental cpacity and killer instinct to do well.

PoopyfaceMcGee

The 2005 Steelers were the exception to the rule, and the Eagles don't have the capability to be nearly as good on defense in clutch situations as the Steelers were last year.
