theres really no comparison

the seahawks got a contract done with branch before the trade

had the eagles done the same with donte they would have given up a lot more than a 4th

in fact had a contract been required its most likely seattle or someone else....and not the eagles...would have gotten stallworth

After seeing what the Seahawks gave up for Branch is there any doubt about the brilliance of this trade? Well done, front office.

Here Here.  Plenty of cap space to get Stallworth and Michael Lewis done at the end of the year.

HYPERBOLE

I can honestly say I have never see this word used as much as it is around here.

I suggest the word "ballyhoo" be added to the forums vocabulary, just so the gem that is hyperbole does not get tired.

this is true and IF they get him done then its a great trade...but thats a huge IF...especially after what branch got...no way the eagles cake off a wr like stallworth or any wr for that matter

even if they dont sign him tho its still a good trade

True.  But if they don't re-sign him, they better win it all this year.

General_Failure

They obviously didn't like what they saw from him in the Texans game.

Wingspan

they are waiting for a game in which he drops 5 passes and fumbles the one catch he manages to pull in.

that way there is a better chance he'll sign for vet minimum

Reggie Brown blocked well and Greg Lewis made 3 key catches, so we'd be fine at WR without Stallworth.

I disagree.  If Stallworth produces for them all year... he gets paid.  Plain and simple.

They threw out more than that for TO because they really wanted him... and I don't think they'll pass up the chance to lock up a young, legitimate #1 WR approaching/at the prime of his career for this team if that's what Stallworth turns out to be.  Kid is only 25.  Still in that area where the Eagles like to invest their money.

They're not going to wait until the end of the season IMO - if he has a few more good weeks, they'll call up Drew.

agreed.

I dont think the Eagles are calling up anyone. They'll string that decision along as long as possible-not in hopes that he gets injured--but if he does because hes known to--their covering their asses

but you also dont want a WR faking an injury because hes not getting paid, especially if hes contributing big time and not getting recognized

if dante stallworth doesnt wait for the end of the season and go on the open market hed be a total fool

unless

the eagles cake him somewhere btwn givens and branch money

I think that if you look at Branch and Reggie Wayne, Stallworth will end up getting about 90% of their range on the open market if he stays healthy.  That said, the reasons Rosenhaus was able to get TO thinking about a new ridiculous deal aren't as valid with Stallworth (ie: he's obviously not as inwardly unsure of himself and he's not currently locked into a decent, but team-beneficial deal).  Keep in mind that getting it done this year would have the added benefit to Stallworth of a lot more dollars right away.

Basically, we knock Rosenhaus a lot, but he's not going to cost his guy a lot of money unless he stands to gain a lot later.  One thing Drew likes are commission checks, so if they made Donte' a fair offer sooner, rather than later...

I'm not saying they can undercut him or get him on the cheap.  But if they wait a few weeks to make sure the chemistry with McNabb keeps building, then they can make him a FAIR offer and get him done... and I think they'd prefer to do that under this year's cap.
