They said on CNN those barbs are about 8 inches long.  Yikes.
They also said that there are no reports of stingray attacks without agitating them.  Maybe shouldn't farged with that one.
Anyone but Reid.

From what they said on Today, Irwin was swimming over it, and the Ray must have felt threatened and defended itself.

I agree with most points here.  It's a shame, and it's not unexpected (other than the animal that did him in).  There is not much room for error in his line of work, and a mistake can too often be lethal.

Am I right in thinking that Irwin's father died while working with animals?

Edit:  I just checked the Wikipedia article, and there is no mention of the father dying that way.

before his time?!!? are you freakin kidding me, this guys time was coming everytime he decided to jump the fence. This idiot risked everything for our entertainment, not science or the good of the world. Not much worse than the grizzley man. lesson learned...don't farg with animals...they will eat you or stab you in the heart. i feel really bad for his kids, his wife let it go on so i have no sympathy for her. crikey!

yes he's educational, but hes one in a million shows that do just as good to educate us, but the guy jumped on gators and others dangerous animals to keep our attention.  not only that but probably gave other idiots a reason to try it themselves.

Off camera, Irwin was a true preservationalist and brilliant zoologist.  You're basing your opinion only because his on-screen persona was cariacature-like and goofy, which is unfair.

That said, he did risk his life many times unnecessarily.  Oh well.

mussa

when did i state anything about his on-screen persona? he's an idiot for entering a dangerous animals domain. has nothing to do with his personality.

Can we all just agree that being stabbed through the heart by an 8-inch stingray barb is a pretty farging badass way to die?
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

All the more reason to be saddened by his death.  Simpletons who would have watched his show and then tried catching a cobra are going to live long enough to breed now.  I hope you're happy.
