Lidle was absolutley correct in his comments. just like wagner was...just like schilling was....just like rolen was.....and every other player that bashed the phillies after they left.

What did Cory Lidle do during his tenure with the Phillies?

He sucked, Wing.  SUCKED.

Rolen, Schilling and Wagner did not suck during their time in Philly.  They produced.  Therefore, they have every right to mouth off and point fingers.  Lidle, on the other hand, does not.  He was a part of the problem whereas the others were not.

But he was totally good for his last few starts so that totally justifies it.

Let's just say he's not wrong about the attitude of many on the team.  We know that for a fact.  The issue is that he's not a good player and apparently his attitude isn't really special either.

Whatever.  I do find it funny that Arthur Rhodes felt the need to deflect it.  Because he's awesome.

the locker room is a mess

but not because corey lidle says so and he was part of the problem

At least they were able to hold on to Lieber at the trade deadline.  Starting him yesterday and having him blow the game on purpose was a stroke of genius.  He's the key to a World Series run next year.  Go Phils.

Sheridan put it perfectly when talking about Lidle:

QuoteNo other choice

In a sense, Gillick is in the process of hacking away an entire layer of this Phillies roster. This group, he said, "had an opportunity" to contend and never succeeded: Bobby Abreu, David Bell, Rheal Cormier and Cory Lidle were the first wave. Sal Fasano and Ryan Franklin weren't here that long, but they went. You just know Gillick did everything he could to move Pat Burrell and Jon Lieber before yesterday's deadline.

Those moves will have to wait for the off-season. Given the return on Abreu, that might have been the smarter move there, as well. But then, Abreu's no-trade clause and salary would have limited the market in November as much as it did in July.

Everything that's good and bad about baseball's system was on display here.

It is good that Gillick could make the decision to dump salary and create the flexibility to remake this team. You think Billy King would like that opportunity?

It is bad that a team like the Yankees could steal Abreu, and force the Phillies to throw in a serviceable starter like Lidle, while giving up little except George Steinbrenner's millions. Gillick has officially had more impact on the AL East race than the NL East.

And it also feels wrong that a guy like Lidle, Mr. Mediocrity for two seasons here, gets plopped into a pennant race. You really shouldn't be eligible for a get-out-of-jail-free card if you helped build the jail.
"Oh, yeah. They'll still boo. They have to. They're born to boo. Just now, they'll only boo with two Os instead of like four." - Larry Andersen

lidle very well could have been part of the problem. and he could very well be a little bitch. and has been mediocre...but...

but that doesnt change the fact that what he said was right.

this shtein team really doesnt care if they win or lose.

as for rollins hes one of the best shortstops in baseball batting in the wrong position...you cant just teach a guy to bat leadoff...flip a switch and hell be good in that spot...if it was that easy every team would have a great leadoff guy...jimmy should be hitting seventh and if he were everyone would see the great shortstop that he is

Thank you.

He gave up a ton of runs last year at the deadline too vs. Colorado.

He should've been traded for a 40 of Old E.

Also Mike Bourn is back in AAA after his one day stint here. Chris Roberson is back.

I dont buy that the team doesnt care if they win or lose--why? because Lidle said it, my god. anyone playing competitive sports cares--its in your blood as a competitor. christ, I care if I lose a game a beer pong or thumby war for that matter.

the bottom line is they are not good enough. just because you go on a winning streak doesnt mean all of a sudden you care now, and when you go on a losing streak, you dont care and give up. you dont go to the plate to strike out or ground out, misplay a grounder or pop up. it happens because your not good enough.

they are not well put together team--from the pitching to the coaches

theres a difference between wanting to win and not caring if you lose

so your telling me that if the Phillies cared if they lost, they would play better?

they are not good enough, and to see it otherwise is fooling yourself. Lidle going on a rant of the the team not caring is his sourpuss attitude for losing all the time and  because hes probably not liked by alot of players on the team

ice grillin you

so your telling me that if the Phillies cared if they lost, they would play better?

are you asking that with a straight face

of course they would

what do you think made michael jordan the best athlete of all time...he absofarginglutely refused to lose

players who go and coast thru a game without having any urgency will not win as much as an equally talented team that goes for broke at all times

please dont ever use the analogy of Michael Jordan to any of the Phillies players. the big differnece in that analogy is the SKILL that Jordan possessed. when you have that kind of skill your refusal to lose will overcome any circumstance. the Phillies dont have the skill...its not that hard

hey, alot of times you cant control an outcome, especially when the other team is just flat out better--and in the phillies case its the majority of the time

ice grillin you

jodan was far from the most skillful player in the league when he played...especially so later in his career...he was the best tho...and the thing that elevated him above all other was his disdain for losing

the bottom line is when you dont care if you lose it puts you at a disadvantage...and causes you to miss the playoffs by a few games rather than make the playoffs

so your telling me that if the Phillies cared if they lost, they would play better?

yes.

has anyone ever seen ryan howard taking some infield practice, so maybe he becomes less of a butcher at 1st base? and utley at that?

how about pat burrell still striking out on the same pitch for 3 years?

rollins swinging on the first pitch?

anyone not swinging on the 1st pitch after the opponent walks the bases loaded on 12 pitches?

maybe rowand could hit a cutoff man every once in a while?

perhaps ONE pitcher could learn to bunt?

this team does not care because none of these things ever improve. all of the things i mentioned above are things you can improve, if you care.

which they don't.
