Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

QuotePhiladelphia pitcher Brett Myers, everybody's favorite wife flattener, returned to the Phillies yesterday for a game against the Giants in San Francisco. Before the game, he had given a statement apologizing for his actions and saying he was getting counseling. It sounded sincere enough that you would almost believe him, if he weren't the type of guy who punched his wife in the face on a street corner.

Anyway, Myers received a healthy smattering of boos, right? You got 'em, San Francisco, yeah?

Nope. He made it out to the mound without a peep, and even Charlie Manuel, his manager, said he "expected a harsher reaction." Though we guess that's just one more thing Charlie Manuel's wrong about.

But seriously, San Francisco: We grant you the Cheering Bonds thing; he's your superstar, and you've made your piece with the steroids thing. But not booing Brett Myers? What's wrong with you guys? Is anybody awake over there?

Someone named Cla Meredith is pitching for San Diego. What kind of idiot names their kid Cla? Must be Irish.

The Phlounderin's steal another loss from the jaws of victory tonight.

Good job. Arsonist Franklin started the fire.

Hey, at least I started Adrian Gonzalez on my FF team.

Utley butchered another ball tonight too. Chop, chop!

The only thing that could possibly make me happy about the Phils if ownership sells the team.  Other than that, it is just varying degrees of disgust and misery.

I was watching the game and turned it off after the Phils went up 6-3.  They showed Franklin warming up in the pen and I just couldn't watch anymore.

Eh... training camp starts this week anyway.

from todays ny daily news...

The Yankees have focused their pursuit of a right fielder on Philadelphia's Bobby Abreu and Kansas City's Reggie Sanders, not just because of their needs for this year, but because either works for their immediate future, as well.
Gary Sheffield has a $13 million option for next season and, even before his wrist injury, the Yankees were leaning toward not bringing the moody slugger back. The injury merely galvanized their thinking.

Abreu will make $15 million next season with a 2008 option for $16 million or a $2 million buyout. So Abreu would fill Sheffield's position and salary spot for next season and, possibly, the year after.

Sanders, who has some no-trade provisions, is due $5 million next year. The Yanks are not sure if Sanders, who will turn 39 in the offseason, can be a full-time player anymore. So they could turn right field into a pla toon with Melky Cabrera receiving a sizable amount of at-bats against righty starters or try to deal Sanders again in the offseason, possibly by eating a piece of his contract.

The Yanks believe money is key to their chance of landing either Abreu or Sanders. The Phillies have not definitively told interested teams they will deal Abreu. But, if they do, a main reason is to free up as much of his sal ary as possible. The Yanks are one of the few teams that would cer tainly be able to incorporate Abreu fully into their payroll. The Yanks are hopeful that by offering complete salary relief, the Phillies would willingly accept two or three second-tier prospects. The Yanks continue to tell clubs they will not part with their top two prospects, Philip Hughes and Jose Tabata.

It is possible that Detroit, Boston or another team could take on all of Abreu's pact or the Phillies could eat some of the contract as a way to improve the prospects they would receive.

I was  told that Abreu to the Yankees for 2 low level minor leagues as all but done. This is was at 330. It is is now 715. No mention of any such thing, in fact Jayson Stark said the Phillies would give away  Burrell, Lieber, Lidle, etc.  but not Abreu.

Would someone actually trade us a guy with 4 working limbs for Lidle?  SOLD!

PhillyPhreak54

Another loss.

Good for the hopes of an upcoming firesale.

Lidle will fetch something. Some fringe team like Milwaukee or San Diego will get him, IMO.

Abreu better get more than two low ML'ers.
