QuoteAndrews Inked Through 2015

Offensive lineman Shawn Andrews, a rising star in the NFL, is going to be an Eagle for a long, long time. The team announced on Monday morning that Andrews has signed a contract through the 2015 season, a seven-year extension on his current deal.

A 2 p.m. press conference is scheduled at the NovaCare Complex and you can listen in or watch live during our Eagles Live! show.

Andrews played well last year, and is looking for more in 2006 and beyond
Andrews, the team's No. 1 draft pick in 2004, had four years remaining on his original six-year contract. But the Eagles, as they have done in the past, identified Andrews as a young member of the core, and got the deal done with the right guard over the weekend.

Andrews missed much of his rookie season after suffering a broken ankle in the regular season opener in 2004 against the Giants. He rebounded with an outstanding 2005, earning first alternate status for the NFC Pro Bowl team. Andrews started every game for the Eagles last season and showed what kind of a big-time player he can be.

The Eagles obviously love his ability, and they certainly love the way he has lost 35-plus pounds this off-season.

Andrews is the kind of player the Eagles have targeted for extensions in the past: He is young, with some time remaining on his original contract and he has been identified as one of the players around whom to build for the future.

Projected as a right tackle as a draft-eligible player, but he has settled in at right guard.

well, atleast we know the management thinks he is going to the pro bowl this year.  Because the only reason they sign him this early is to save money later on.

Banking the cap money they have left is their M.O. for sure.

If he keeps his weight under control, he could be a dominant force, though.  He was a Pro Bowl alternate last year despite being grossly overweight.  That says something for him.

BigEd76

hmm....you don't usually see guards locked up for the next 10 years, but OK

I'm a little confused by this. I mean the dude is obviously talented, but he's been hurt and has had serious weight management issues. Why extend him now? It's not like they needed more cap room. I don't know. Whatever. Here's to hoping that he follows through on his potential and keeps his fat ass in check.

PFT:

QuoteThe seven-year extension could be worth up to $40 million. He'll earn $12 million in 2006, and the deal includes between $10 million and $11 million in bonus money.

I can only assume that most of whatever bonus he was given was structured as a roster bonus to hit this year's cap, thus reducing 2006 available cap space and giving more down the line.

I still would like to see Dawkins get his piece of the pie, though.

MadMarchHare

You're right Ed, they don't pay guards that kinda money.  But they do pay tackles big time dough.
Anyone but Reid.

Future of the line:

LT - Justice
LG - Manneans
C - Jackson?  draft pick?
RG - Jean-Gilles
RT - Andrews

Come get some, bitches.

I still do not understand the desire to move Andrews out to tackle. His size, strength and quickness are perfectly suited to play guard AND they now have Manneans and Justice as potential future tackles. Factor MJG into the equation and I just don't see the need to move Andrews. But shtein, the professional football team that I am in charge of isn't all that great so what do I know?

Well, they are seriously trying to make a guard out of Manneans.

MDS

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Damn skippy.  I can honestly say that I hope they NEVER are in a position to move Andrews to RT.  Just keep his big ass inside and let him dominate.  Simple as that.
