Me too.  He's the wrong body for the job.  Arms too short..no way he can move laterally quick enough to contend with 265lb DEs.  I just don't get it.

Well, they are seriously trying to make a guard out of Manneans.
Great.  Turn the natural tackle into a guard and turn the natural guard into a tackle.  I'm reminded of igy's insistence on Reid suffering from a God complex..constantly trying to turn udfa's into all stars, etc.

Glad he's locked up, I guess.  Let's see a few years of top notch, no-injury play, please.

baffling isnt it?

i love spads 'rising star in the nfl' comment...pump your brakes nerd

i dont have a problem with this signing tho...locking up a potentially good young player before he actual produces all that much is smart if a little risky...it worked with lito and sheldon so that makes you feel ok with this move

I still do not understand the desire to move Andrews out to tackle. His size, strength and quickness are perfectly suited to play guard AND they now have Manneans and Justice as potential future tackles. Factor MJG into the equation and I just don't see the need to move Andrews. But shtein, the professional football team that I am in charge of isn't all that great so what do I know?

Maybe I'm missing something, but where is it written that they plan on moving Andrews to tackle, other than us guys assuming it?

its been talked about by reid and heckert pretty much from the day he was drafted...tho i have not heard them speak on it recently

as someone else mentioned this contract is a sign that he will be moved outside when runyan is done...i cant see them giving that kind of extension to an unproven guy they plan on being a guard...if youre gonna take the risk of giving out all that money then it is most likely going to be for a tackle

The deal, as best, averages out to $4 million a season.  This is not tackle money...its good guard money.

its not about the avg per season...or even whether its guard or tackle money...its about giving an unproven player 12 million guaranteed...thats only 4 mil less than hutchinson got and hes easily the best guard in the nfl...and if they are gonna go that far for him i have to believe they think hes their tackle of the future...not their guard of the future

Yep.

And don't bitch about him getting too much money.  That would be hypocritical of you.

and anyway altho i dont care about money or the cap...i could have a problem giving a ton of money to an unproven player...if they throw this kind of money around in free agency where youre generally dealing with proven players i would never have a problem overpaying there

It IS about the average per season in some circumstances, especially when the contact is front-loaded like this one.  In contrast, TO's contract was back-loaded so the average per season number was meaningless.  The $12 million guaranteed (as someone previously mentioned) is clearly a cap play, and probably a smart one.

Hutch's APS is $7 million and Andrews is $4 million...very differenent numbers and both were front loaded.

That's a fat load of B.S. coming from you.  You have complained about the Eagles not giving similar money to a player proven to only be averagish or slightly better in free agency (Randle-El, for example).  So, a young guy like Andrews with an extremely bright future is no worse of an investment of money than a "proven" gadget WR, right?  Plus, you're on the record as saying that the money shouldn't matter to us fans either way, so you should just be glad they saw a guy they wanted to retain for a long time and did so.

yeah and i said i like the andrews signing...not sure what your point is...youre reaching big time and its not pretty

I'm not reaching at all.  Stop qualifying your opinion.  You like the signing, so don't question the money.
