QuoteLow-price gas goof draws drivers to Doylestown
Associated Press

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - A Memorial Day special? A time warp? Whatever they thought, motorists lined up for a brief fueling frenzy at a pump in Doylestown selling premium gasoline for 32.9 cents a gallon.

As drivers called friends and relatives, up to a dozen cars lined up for a turn at a Lukoil pump vending premium at that price instead of the $3.29 at which it should have been set.

The rush Monday was short-lived. Doylestown Township Police Chief Stephen White said a woman called 911 saying she had noticed the error when she used the pump, though she herself pumped "plus" grade correctly priced at $3.19 a gallon. White said the woman said she was "incensed" at the behavior of other customers scrambling for the pennies-per-gallon premium, considered the opportunism theft, and felt bad for the station owner.

Once the mistake was discovered, a Lukoil employee put up signs temporarily halting sales of the premium until the price was adjusted. The Intelligencer of Doylestown said the station owner did not respond to an interview request.

ugh, farging tattletale.

this was the funhole in school who would remind the teacher that he needed to give you homework.
This woman is an idiot. If she really filled her car at 3.19 a gal., thats more proof that shes an idiot.
If I lived in Doylestown, tomorrow the mechanic would be explaining to her that it will cost at least $2000 to repair her car.

Many people in Doylestown have a lot of money.  This woman was probably one of them.

Thanks for the info. If that is the case then I would have to make sure her repair bill was much higher. Maybe its time to figure a way to total her vehicle.

So if a store owner accidentally leaves the front door open while he goes into the back room for a minute, it's okay for people to walk in and start taking stuff?

that's not an appropriate analogy.

if a store owner incorrectly marks an item that is 9.99 at .99, it's their farg up and they have to live with the consequences.

Most states have laws that basically state that if the wrong price is marked, the business must sell the good for that price.

I'm sure that someone is losing their job over that error, though.

True. But your example is more applicable for a tagged, tangible item. It's supposed to protect the consumer from retailers who might arbitrarily change an item's price.

Anyway, if the price is obviously way wrong, I see no problem with somebody alerting the seller that there is an error, rather than trying to bleed the seller dry. All those people flocking to the pump in that story sounds like looter mentality.

Looting, bad.  Price gouging, good.  Looters, criminals who should go to jail.  Price gougers, business leaders who should be revered.
