They should've won tonight.

Once again, the offense gets a few runs and then shuts it down. Capuano was not unhittable tonight. And Rollins' baserunning error was costly.

And Koskie pushed Howard's hand off the base. He should've been safe.

Dammit!

He sorta went for the tag and in the process won the battle for the bag.

The bench sucks outside of Victorino. Dellucci...eh. Nunez is garbage. Roberson/Coste both suck, but Roberson has at least some speed. Unlike previous times, pinch running for Burrell in the 9th was absolutly the right move. They ended up not needing it, since Burrell could have scored on Howard's double, but they move had to made. Tough luck that it came down to Roberson at the end.

Still, not even offense when they needed it in the middle innings. Geary is trash. Gordon now has 2 losses outside of save situations. Kind of a running theme with closers, but you still gotta trust your best reliever in that situation.

Looks like Milwaukee has our number. To even it out, we seem to have Cincinatti's number. Now if only we can beat the Astros, things can even out.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

When Coste hit that ball I originally thought it was a deep one. It sounded good off the bat. I already was reading the Daily News for tomorrow with a syrupy Coste story in it and how he saved the day in his first MLB AB after getting the shaft in the spring.

And yes, the bench does eat ass.

But Ramon Martinez is having a nice season in LA. We should get him, oh thats right. We had him and let him walk.

QuotePHILADELPHIA -- Maybe Cole Hamels shouldn't have mentioned the "pop" in his shoulder.
Then again, maybe it's a good thing he did.

Hamels told Phillies officials about the sensation he felt during a throwing session on Tuesday, and that admission that led to a 15-day stint on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation. The lefty felt much better the next day, so much better, in fact, that he felt he could've taken his regular turn in the rotation.

"It's unfortunate I had to go on the DL," Hamels said. "I could pitch [Friday], [Saturday] and the next day. It never really hurt to begin with. It just felt different. The next morning when I woke up, I was like, 'Dang, if I wouldn't have said something, I could've pitched.'

"But if I wouldn't have said something and it would've been serious, I could've been out on the mound in that game and done something bad."

That's the point. Considering Hamels' injury history, he and the organization have reason to be skittish whenever Hamels says ouch. The lefty has been limited to 51 innings over the past two seasons because of back, hand and elbow injuries, so the alarms justifiably went off.

"I've had that enough with my elbow and my back," he said. "Every time I've heard a pop, it's led to a worse-case scenario. This is best, to get that knowledge that nothing's wrong. In this game, cracks are kind of scary."

Especially with Hamels. He's been on anti-inflammatories as a precaution, and he was told not to throw for two to four days. Hamels plans to throw a bullpen session on Saturday, and expects to be activated on June 3, where he would start against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, less than two hours from his hometown of San Diego.

"It's just one of those things," Hamels said. "You could either say something or not. I'd just rather be safe."

So would the Phillies.

Quote"If they had appealed it, I would have called him out," Hallion said

This is the 3B umpire speaking. He is referring to the play where Rickie Weeks did not touch 3B on his way back to 2B. Normally the 3B is responsible for watching the runner to make sure he touches the base. But Bell was moving towards the ptchers mound to back up the throw.

Jesus Christ. That was an important run and he should've been out but no one saw him miss the base! >:(

Don't worry, Wheels saw it.

Speaking of Wheels...do you think he's cleaned Bell's spunk off his face yet? He was blowing im all night!

Hey, give the guy credit for even being on base in the first place.

I mean... you can't blame him for being rusty in the baserunning department.  He's out of practice.

Manuel referred to Rollins as the only "legit" base stealer in the Phillies usual line-up yesterday and also indicated that that's the reason that Rollins will stay in the lead-off position.

I honestly don't know whether to laugh or cry at comments like that.  If he's really that out of touch, he's simply got to be shtein-canned.

BigEd76

Ed Wade is the 2nd choice for new GM in Kansas City.  Stop laughing....

BigEd76

Rowand got a standing ovation when he took the field the first time and again when he went up for his first AB...

1. Ryan Franklin is an arsonist. The man sure knows how to set a goddamn fire, eh? Lock him up now!

2. This team really makes me angry.

3. Did Jimmy go 3-5 tonight? In the leadoff hole?

4. 3rd placed Phillies

5. I hope Ed Wade gets the KC job. I want to see what that bum can do in KC with no pyaroll. He couldn't do shtein here with a moderate payroll.

6. I really hate losing.

Dontrelle Willis anyone?

QuoteBy Jim Salisbury
The Philadelphia Inquirer

PHILADELPHIA — The Florida Marlins continue to tell teams that they are not going to trade lefthander Dontrelle Willis.
Not every team is buying that, though.

Count the Phillies among them.

There have been strong indications in recent days that the Phils will be players in the Willis sweepstakes if Florida decides to move him, and many baseball executives believe that will indeed happen as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaches.

Last weekend, Phillies general manager Pat Gillick sent his most trusted aide, scout Don Welke, to watch Willis' start against Tampa Bay. The Phils wanted fresh reports on Willis, just in case he becomes available.

Even before Welke peeked in on him, there had been rumblings as far back as the winter meetings that the Phillies coveted Willis and were prepared to enter any bidding for his services.

That feeling has not waned in the first two months of the season. The Phillies are an imperfect team, but so is the entire National League East. Willis is a difference-making talent who could help the Phils this year and beyond.

Baseball sources say the Phillies have made their interest in Willis known to the Marlins through the back channels that crafty teams use when they're trying to gauge the market on a particular player. The Phillies aren't the only team that has been in contact with the Marlins. The Diamondbacks, Cardinals, Mets and Yankees are keeping close tabs, and the list could grow as the summer heats up and the Marlins' intentions become clearer.

Why aren't teams buying the Marlins' pronouncement that Willis isn't going anywhere? One reason is the Marlins said the same thing about Carlos Delgado, then dealt him to the Mets over the winter. Another is that Willis, despite an uncharacteristically poor showing this season, could bring a bushel of young talent in return as the Marlins take some time to rebuild. Also, Willis' salary could rise well above its current $4.35 million next year, and the Marlins, with the worst attendance in baseball, could have trouble swallowing it.

The Phillies do not have a deep farm system, but they have enough quality to get Willis if there's a deal to be made. The Marlins are looking for pitching, catching and outfield help. The Phils have excellent arms in Gavin Floyd, Scott Mathieson, Gio Gonzalez and Carlos Carrasco, to name four, that might interest the Marlins. The Phillies have some catching depth, though they are unlikely to give up Jason Jaramillo. Carlos Ruiz, a better hitter than he's shown in Philadelphia, could interest the Marlins as part of a package. As far as outfielders go, Shane Victorino's value has skyrocketed recently, though the Phils might not want to part with him when there is the possibility they could trade Pat Burrell or Bobby Abreu in the coming months or off-season.

Willis, the National League's 2003 rookie of the year, went 22-10 with a 2.63 ERA last year and finished second in Cy Young Award voting. He is not off to a good start this season, though. He has a 1-6 record and a 4.93 ERA after Saturday's loss to the Mets, but some of his poor performance could be the result of pitching for a franchise that had the life taken out of it after a winter fire sale.

Taking a run at Willis makes sense for the Phillies. He's 24. He grew up with Jimmy Rollins. He's exciting. He'd sell tickets. It might keep him away from the Mets. Best of all, he won't be a free agent until after 2009, meaning he'd look good for several seasons alongside Brett Myers and Cole Hamels.

This all could be moot. The Marlins might be true to their word and keep Willis. But if they change their plan, as a lot of baseball people think they will, the Phillies probably will be in the hunt, and there's something exciting about that.

Yes, please.
