well the caps aren't even in philly's division, so if i had to pick a favorite wash team it would be them.  and when i go to nationals games i will usually root for the other team, unless its the braves or mets, who i hate more.

and i root for the phillies, i'll see most of the games when they're here and maybe once or twice in philly, but i'm just not that big of a baseball fan to begin with.

They used to be and I have a huge hatred for that team because of it. Those days with Dale Hunter....argh. I hate that friggin team.

The Cubs suck. This is funny.

:-D That was one of the best baseball punches I've seen in quite a while.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Barrett just flipped out. You'd think with him being a catcher and all, he would know that getting plastered is part of the game. Did he expect AJ to go easy on him because he is a fellow catcher?

Anyways, at least he threw a real punch. Baseball fights are usually a contest of who can man-hug the most guys while trying to look tough. Or a guy looking tough and taking his time to get to the mound so someone can "hold him back".

F Bonds.

Barrett will probably be suspended for at least 15 games.

Pierzynski's known for running his mouth a bit, so he could have said something that set Barrett off.  Barrett also may have though AJ was showing him up by slapping the plate after the collision.  Barrett should have known better, though.  Even Dusty Baker didn't back him up on it.  He'll have 5 games or so to think about it.

In the other story, Barrett may have been upset because Pierzynski hit him when he didn't have the ball.  If he was blocking the plate, the runner can't always know whether or not the catcher had the ball.  My guess is that Barrett had his bell rung and reacted badly- just didn't have his wits about him.

Write-up on the brawl by the AP.

Another write-up.

In my opinion, Pierzynski shouldn't have really even been thrown out of the game, but was because he was "involved" in the scuffle.  He probably won't be suspended, and would certainly appeal if he is.  Mabry and Anderson will probably get a token game or two, and Barrett will miss 5 or so.

This afternoon's game could be quite interesting.

Pierzynski said afterwords that he was trying to step around Barrett to grab his helmet and after watching the replay I can't say I disagree one bit.  Sometimes players make excuses afterwords but in this case it really looked like he trying going around Barrett and pick up his helmet.

Why he got ejected is beyond me because it seemed clear that he didn't even start the confrontation.  Barrett got up, grabbed him and then punched him.

Still, props to Barrett for throwing a manly punch.
