Oklahoma's Kelvin Sampson is expected to leave the school to become the next head coach at Indiana, multiple sources told ESPN.com.

Sampson already told OU athletic director Joe Castiglione of his plans and was scheduled to meet with the Sooner team Tuesday afternoon.

A news conference announcing his hiring at Indiana could take place as early as Wednesday afternoon in Bloomington.

Sampson replaces Mike Davis, who took over for Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight in 2000.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I have no idea who this person is, but it's a tragedy that someone so young should die.

QuoteDunphy headed to Owls

It is to be announced today that the coach will leave Penn for Temple.

By Mike Jensen
Inquirer Staff Writer

By now, this barely qualifies as news, but it is happening: Temple will announce today that Penn coach Fran Dunphy is moving to North Broad Street to become the Owls' next basketball coach, replacing John Chaney, according to multiple sources.

Temple has scheduled a news conference at 3 p.m. today.

Dunphy did not return a phone call last night, but, according to sources, he was calling his Penn players to inform them of his decision.

About to become the first man to be a head coach at two Big Five schools, Dunphy is one of only six Division I men's coaches in the city who won 300 games at a single school. He had a 310-163 record in 17 seasons as Penn's coach. In the last 14 seasons, Dunphy won 10 Ivy League titles.

Dunphy will be just the fourth Temple coach in the last 54 years, following Chaney, Don Casey and Harry Litwack. Both Chaney and Litwack have been inducted in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and Casey went on to coach in the NBA.

A 1970 La Salle graduate and also a graduate of Malvern Prep, Dunphy, 57, will become the only coach to spend time at four of the Big Five schools. He also has a master's degree from Villanova.

Dunphy, considered the leading candidate since Chaney announced his retirement March 13, did not announce his decision yesterday at Penn's annual men's basketball awards banquet, saying, "There's probably a 2,000-pound elephant sitting in the back of the room."

After the midday banquet, Comcast SportsNet asked Dunphy how difficult the last month had been for him.

"Well, it's always stressful," he said. "I will say that to you. Very, very stressful. But it is what it is. You've got to handle it. It is not anything other than change. And if it's going to happen, change is going to be good for some, not so good for others. But for you personally, it is what it is. You've got to make the best of it."

The Quakers went to the NCAA tournament nine times under Dunphy, but they always were low seeds. They won only one tournament game, in 1994 over Nebraska.

Over the years, Dunphy had been approached by quite a few schools. Many times, he did not show an interest. He did get involved in talks with Ohio State and Penn State and was considered a backup choice at Georgetown when John Thompson III took the job. He had several serious flirtations with his alma mater, almost going to La Salle in 2004.

Before taking over at Penn, Dunphy had been an assistant coach at La Salle, American and Army. He also spent five years as the head coach at Malvern Prep.

It is not known what the makeup of Dunphy's Temple coaching staff would be. Dunphy has not addressed the subject.

He basically can't recruit at all at Penn.  Even the A-10 is a step up from Penn.
Anyone but Reid.
