And who gives a farg if it is a one year deal or a 67 year deal?

I care because the Eagles have signed someone in the past for a 1 year deal, the guy had a good year and then he bolted.  I also care because it doesnt show they they have any real faith in the player.  They have no problem extending the Todd Pinkstons and the Greg Lewis's for long deals, yet they sign their one FA WR to a basic 1 year rental deal.    Obviously Gaffney could get an extension or re-sign after the season... just as he could bolt to another team.

On a side note, and not that it means anything other than an interesting fact: I read that Gaffney had the smallest hands in the draft that year.

And if they signed him to a 4 year deal they'd be getting ripped even more for signing a guy to a long term deal. They did Pinky and Lewis because they got it on the cheap.

And if he's playing well, he'll be one of the guys to get an extension later in November when thet extend players. And if he sucks the 1-year deal is a good thing.

yes sir

Speak of the devil, Gaffney's on Sirius right now:

- Wanted to play with #5, main reason he signed here
- Happy he's in a pass happy offense
- Hasnt' been given a specific spot on the depth chart, just knows he'll be moving around a lot
- Sort of criticizing Carr saying he has to step it up this year. Thinks having Kubiak will help
- Just wants the oppurtunity to show what he can do.
- Says he was open a lot last season but Carr wouldn't look his way

ice grillin you

Gaffney wanted the 1 year deal

i call BS...no player wants a one year deal in football EVER...

all you need to know about gaffney is that houston made no effort to resign him and offered givens almost 20 million...now im not saying gaffney is a bad move by the eagles because it isnt...but anyone who trys to say gaffney is close to as good as givens is homering it up...heck they signed RFA ken walter over gaffney...there were 31 teams fighting for jabar gaffney and the best he could do was a cheap one year deal...the guy is a #3 wr

yep...if he has a great year then the eagles wont sign him and say its because hes asking for too much for a player who had one good year...if he doesnt have a good year then the eagles say well it was no big deal we only signed him to a one year contract in the first place....forgetting that they could have signed someone who would have helped the team
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

Please.

Barber opted for a 1 year deal twice.

And so what if Gaffney wasn't wanted back in HOU? What if he just didn't want to go back there? And you can say that about almost any FA out there.

Why didn't SF make an effort to get Peterson back?
Why didn't Pittsburgh make an effort to get Randle El back?

But hey...Gaffney sucks because he signed a one year deal and he won't do shtein because the Eagles suck because they signed no one.

Houston made no effort to resign anyone..they let Bradford go as well who had the most TD's (5) for the team, which leaves them with Andre Johnson and who--Armstrond and Mathis? Smart team

Peterson and Randle El signed ridiculous deals, Pittsburgh was on record as saying they wanted Randle El back, and I'm sure the Niners would have taken Peterson back if they didn't have more pressing needs and his asking price wasn't so high. The two situations are unrlelated IMO.

Regarding Gaffney...Roob had lunch with him today. This is what I was told regarding the situation, when I asked why it was a 1-year deal:

QuoteBecause its the kind of a deal where neither side wanted to commit to anything longer because nobody really knows his value
"Oh, yeah. They'll still boo. They have to. They're born to boo. Just now, they'll only boo with two Os instead of like four." - Larry Andersen

barber didnt opt for shtein...he blasted out his knee and was forced to take one deals

peterson and randel el commanded real money...thats why they werent brought back...if sf or pitt could have gotten either one for cheap and minimal years they would have been resigned with the quickness

and gaffney doesnt suck...hes a decent replacement for pinky...but isnt anything more than a solid 3/2.5

Hey, he has more first down catches than David Givens in his career-- and if he can go out there and produce first down catches and catch some TD's...$htein....thanks for the cheap signing.

Like you've seen Gaffney play enough to judge what type of receiver he is. You don't know shtein about Gaffney other than his name isn't as big as the other names out there. At least watch him play here before making that call.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

Sounds like the # 84 is a perfect fit for him.
