Good writing IS good writing. I'll never agrue agaisnt that, my point is that when 'journalists' are writing based on an utterly subjective opinion, they shouldn't be given pulitzer prizes for astutely stating their personal thoughts. It only encourages them to be more opinionated and that leads to writing for the sake of reading your own words.

the award isnt given for their thoughts and opinions...its for the quality of their writing...the way they review a movie not what they think about it...no different than a non fiction novel that would contain the authors spin/slant/opinion on the subject...or hell even fiction can often contain the personal thoughts of the author...i mean who should get writing awards then?

btw my vote is in....rjs for the message board pulitzer

Saw V for Vendetta.  Quality flick.  Different than the average movie being shown in theaters now.   3.5/4   :yay

V for Vendetta was awesome. The first 10 minutes or so were really corny, but the movie got better and better as it went along. Natalie Portman is a great actress. No chance that she should be considered for an oscar as previously suggested, but she was perfect in this role. Thoroughly enjoyable. I would see it again.

She's not a bad actress, only reason she sucked so much ass in the Star Wars Prequels was because of her crappy lines.
I value personal opinions over the opinions of critics, looks like I'm gonna have to check this out.

I saw Underworld Evolution the other night. If you turn it off after the first ten minutes it's a good movie.

I am watching Robin and the Seven Hoods with the Rat Pack and Peter Falk. Pretty good flick. Dean Martin is the coolest guy who ever lived.
Alert, alert. Look well at the rainbow. The fish will be running very soon.

I would personally watch Natalie Portman read the phone book on-screen for two hours.

Of course, she'd be naked and slathered in baby oil, but still, two solid hours.

Saw Hustle and Flow, Marathon Man and Rush yesterday.

Hustle and Flow was good. Fun to watch and had a decent story considering the plot details. Terrence Howard was pretty incredible. His acting was made all the more impressive because I also saw him in Crash and the characters were polar opposites. He played each perfectly. He made the movie worth seeing on his own.

Marathon Man was a disappointment. It was a good movie and all, but every single plot twist (and there were a few) was predictable. In fact you could see them all coming a mile away. I also feel like there was some sort of short-lived obsession in the 70s with Nazi party survivors that I just can't relate to as a mechanism for inspiring fear.  Certainly a well done movie, but I think my expectations were way too high.

Rush was just a fluff piece. I've seen a whole lot of 'look at the terrible things drugs did to me' movies and this one wasn't one of the best, nor was it one of the worst. Jason Patrick and Jennifer Jason Leigh were good, perhaps even very good, in their roles. There's chemistry and emotion there. But the story is pointless and simplistic, so while the two stars did a very good job, the rest of the characters are completely undeveloped and the story needed a lot more meat to it. Average at best.

Saw Jarhead yesterday.  Good flick.  I was under the impression that it was going to be a lot more action-packed, battle scenes, etc., but the fact that it focused more on the characters made it unique for a "war" movie and I thought boths dudes, Gyllenhal and Foxx were really good.  Especially Gyllenhal, he was great.  Definitely worth a watch.  3.5/5
