Shawn Barber on Sirius:

-- Thinks his most successful year was the year he spent with the Eagles in JJ's defense
-- Asked how did he wind up back in Philly: Said it was a no-brainer and hasn't felt comfortable playing the LB position since he left Philly. Says the Philly D fits his game perfectly.
-- Likes JJ's defense because it's aggressive.
-- Says Michael Lewis should be a pro-bowler. Loves the way the defense is assembled right now.
-- Had a choice between a 3 year deal with the Eagles or a 1 year deal and would have been happy with either. Doesn't care how long the deal was.

Damn... pucker up a little bit more, Barber.  He's laying it on thick as hell.  You'd think he's trying to get signed right now.

I fully expect Burgess to have a bad year this year, get cut by the Raiders, and end up back here in 2007.

Did you listen to the interview?  What would you prefer him to say when Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan asked him about the Eagles defense?  That they suck and desperately need him?   He's not going to rip the team he just signed with when he's asked questions about them.  On the no-brainer question: Tim Ryan asked him if he felt it was a no-brainer to come back to the Eagles where he had had such great success and knew him well - those weren't Barber's words.

I think SD Eagle also mischaracterized the money comment a little bit.  I think he was more trying to distinguish himself from the Culpeppers and whomever are trying to renegotiate contracts or force issues when they're under contract.  He said that he wanted to get paid for what he felt he was worth.  A lot of people were annoyed when he left here for a big deal after one year, but that essentially was what both sides thought would happen when they made the 1 year deal.

Finally, I also think SD left out the most important part of the interview - that the Eagles told him they wanted him to come in and compete with the other guys on the roster, that he wasn't being brought in to fill any particular void.

I just jotted down the highlights that sounded interesting. I didn't hear him say - at any point of the interview - that he was being brought in just to 'compete'. He said several times how good a fit he was for JJs system and that he felt his best season was with the Eagles.

OK... take off the Barber jersey... settle down and relax.  I know damn well he's saying nothing more than the company line and everyday football speak.  I know exactly how people load their questions and set them up to be answered a certain way.  I honestly couldn't give a damn about the interview because I know it's nothing more than a fluff piece.  I was simply speaking tongue in cheek on it.  No need to take me so literally.  Aiiight?
