without a doubt. in fact in some stores you are told to bug the people you see as suspicious than the normal customers.

What exactly do you mean by "bug the people you see as suspicious than the normal customers"?

BigEd76

Go up and ask them if they need help.....like Best Buy does every 5 minutes....sometimes repeated by the same sales associate...

You plant tracking and listening devices in their pockets so you know exactly where they are and what they're talking about.

well you'll scare the lifter by constantly asking them if they need help. then follow the person around while pretending to do busy work (a lot of places will keep a box of merchandise to be "restocked" at all times so they can remain to look busy and are seen as suspecting people as a shoplifter.)

you planning a heist or something?

O.k., based on a build-up of extremely frustrating experiences,

how about giving us some backround on what the problem is..

Over the years, I've endured countless degrading and insulting shopping experiences - I've been subject to the behavior described in this thread.  I must say, what I've read in this thread so far has been quite upsetting and disturbing - not to mention it has confirmed what I already knew was going on.

After experiencing yet another incident of prejudicial and degrading behavior by store employees yesterday, I was so angry/upset (this feeling continues) that I thought I'd seek some "feedback" as to what is going on here.  Due to the accumulation of years of such slights - I'm quite fed up (basically at the end of my rope).

More to come later...

Seriously, why are you trying to hide who you post/posted as on the board?  Are you somebody that typically posts like a jackass?  Just curious.

I worked at sears and yes, it was kind of expected to keep an eye on 'suspicious people' i.e., mostly  trailer trash, thug looking fools with big clothes as they carried a pile of clothes into the dressing rooms and middle eastern folk. I never gave a farg though, I was too busy not doing my job and counting the minutes until I got out.

Moral of the story, try not to be trailer trash, thuggish or middle eastern when you go shopping.

Oh, and would we be talking about the same Adam?

Have you ever thought about what it must feel like to these "Middle Eastern folk" to be constantly suspected of being something worse than they are?  Have you ever put yourself in their shoes - that basically you can't shop in peace and enjoy a normal shopping trip because of the constant threat of being insulted by being watched/followed?

And why "Middle Eastern folk"?  What proof do you have that they are doing to bulk of the shoplifting?  Or is this just a prejudice you have?

I must say that I never even thought about shoplifting until I started noticing certain "weird" behavior by employees - treating me as if I'm going to steal something at any moment.

Because basically I'm a very shy person and I want to be able to discuss a very "sensitive" topic (at least for me) without the threat of a "stigma" being attached to my screename.

It's not like I ever really posted that much, anyway.  But I wanted to be free of the "burden" of my prior/regular screename (and it was a "burden" anyway - even without the shoplifting talk  ::) ).

Thanks for answering.  But if you've been around, you know everything around here is some form of a joke...so, take everything with a grain of salt.

i was going to, but decided against it
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

One other question...do you fit a profile, other than any stupid race thing, that would arouse suspicion?  Do you portray a certain kind of image that would set off an alarm to the store security folk?
