"Oh, yeah. They'll still boo. They have to. They're born to boo. Just now, they'll only boo with two Os instead of like four." - Larry Andersen

Quote"Some kids do look up to us," he said. "Maybe if I say something, they'll feel strong enough to say, 'I can say something now because it's happened to him.' Even if it's one kid who I can touch, who my story gives him the strength to come out and say something, I feel like it's worth it."

I know he's speaking from the heart and all, but man what a terrible choice of words.

The man. The myth. The legend.

Glad his stepfather did hard time as a result. Too often this shtein never gets reported and justice is never done.

I guess he felt a need to speak about it, but not everyone you encounter in life has your best interest in mind. These things are sometimes best saved for professionals, like therapy, and people who care about you. I guarantee you he will encounter some jerk wad at some point, either in the stands or on the field who will throw this back at him in a negative fashion.

If he needed to share to help him get over it, and he is freed by that, then great for him. I agree it is courageous, and may help other victims, but man, some people can be azzholes.
The NFL old standard.

This blurb appears at the bottom of today's NY Times article on Grandpa Vinny and the Jets, which I won't link to because it's by subscription only.

QuoteReceiver Laveranues Coles and his mother, Sirretta, taped "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in Chicago on Tuesday. The show, whose broadcast date has not been determined, will address Coles's being molested as a child by his stepfather, which was reported in The New York Times on Sept. 18. ...

Can you say 'train wreck?'

I think he should make the circuit, like he's on a book tour.   Maybe stop by Dr. Phil to help Laveranues forgive his mother for bringing 'that monster' into his life?  Then on to Springer, perhaps?
There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists." - Yosemite Park Ranger

While I'm in generally agreement with my touchy-feely brother Dio on this, I can't understand why professional athletes (or anyone else for that matter) would choose to go public with this sort of thing.

Must every familial tragedy be fodder for public consumption?  Whatever happened to keeping tragic events such as this private?

It would appear that on top of being idiots and blind farging homers, skins fans have no sense of humor. Weird.
