DirecTV Question

WEST is GOD

I guess Direct TV has a diff red zone then.

Comcast is stubborn though. When I got Tivo and had trouble getting it working with my comcast box, I called and they told me that comcast boxes aren't compatible with them, which was a flat out lie. They HATE it when you choose a leading competitor over them. Also when I wanted help with my Tivo, they told me 50 times that I should cancel my Tivo subscription and get their Comcast DVR. You pay for the Tivo box itself and the subscription, genius. If I cancelled I'd still be out like $200. Also one rep on their customer service also told me that they don't help Tivo customers.

If Direct TVs packages ever get cheaper and get CSN then I'd leave Comcast in a split second. I farging hate Comcast and everything about them. Their high speed internet always gives me trouble and slow speeds, their tech reps that come out to the house are rude, ignorant and uneducated. The phone reps are clueless and follow a step by step guide to help you rather than adjusting on the fly. I've always hated Comcast.

DTV is never getting CSN Philly. Comcast is stubborn, thinks of CSN Philly as their baby and will never let it go global.

see my post on the previous page.

they'll get it, just a question of when. then comcast will have no choice but to lower it's insane pricing policies.

We'll see. I have faith in stubborn comcast.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

i have an easy solution.

i got directv over 2 years ago now, and was gonna say goodbye to comcast forever. so i called them to shut it off.

the came out and took my box.

the wire is left live.

i found out that they dont usually physically "shut off" cable anymore. and if they do, just rescrew the wire back in. so i've had directv for 2 some years, and have been getting free basic cable for the same amout of time. and i dont really care, farg comcast.

good for you. but comcast knows every sports fan will jump ship to dtv if they give up csn philly. so theyll never do it.

the other csns were formally other sports networks that were on dtv before comcast got them. so comcast just let them stay. csn philly was the first, the baby. doubt it will ever happen.

By the time Direct TV gets CSN Philly, every cable company around is going to offer every NFL game just like Sunday Ticket. That is what is inevitable. By 2010 Sunday Ticket or something like that is going to be standard. Football is just getting so big in this country and around the world.

CSN is not on satelite. although that could change in the future (within a year). as they close the loophole keeping CSN on cable only.

I don't see Comcast letting CSN go without some kind of huge financial incentive. It's one of the competitive advantages they have over DirecTV, especially in the Philly market.

it's not that much of a financial thing in regards to rights to have the station. it's a loophole in a federal communications law aimed at keeping monopoly's at bay. comcast is using it to hold local sports fans hostage. (although in allentown, you can chose between 2 cable companies, Comcast and RCN, both carry CSN)

the law says any channel broadcast or over air through federal comm satelites must be available to any service provider. (dish network, directv, comcast, rcn, ect...)...comcast is using a loophole in that they are not broacasting any of their comcast sportsnet stations over satelite airwaves. therefore they dont have to let satellite providers access it, it is the only station in america that is broadcasted using landlines only.

funny, the one company that is going to probably challenge this and get the feds to close this loophole is verizon, who is now in a marketing deal with directv.

comcast knows that people want their sports, and are handcuffing people with rising cable costs, knowing that they wont leave because of the local sports in some cities (chicago, philly, baltimore, and any other cities with comcast sportsnets) is inaccessible.

comcast is well aware that for what they are selling you for $70-80 (digital cable) is only $41 on directv and dishnetwork, all the same stations, except 1, CSN. that is why directv pays so much for it's exclusive contract with the NFL. it needs the leverage.

Thing is, Comcast SportsNet from Chicago, Mid-Atlantic (Balt/Wash) and West (Northern CA) are ALL available on DirecTV.  Just not from Philly.  :'(

someone above said it, those arent born comcast, they were fox sports net channels, already going through satellite.

Good move, Phreak. The Ticket and the the Superfan package is awesome. 8 games on one screen, and you can go to each one with the touch of a button. It's simply amazing.
I love the NFL Sunday Ticket.
I am an agent of chaos

PhillyPhreak54

Yes...I am counting the days down until Saturday when the guy shows up. I might do the happy dance like in the commercials.

And I will be in a football coma on Sunday. Beer, gambling, fantasy football, every goddamn game on TV....I'm in love.

Seabiscuit36

Phreak did you get Tivo?  Its the best thing i ever bought, I highly recommend it with the Total Plus package so you can record a shartload of movies you would normally never get to watch.  I moved over to D TV in january from Dish Network and really love tivo.  Like everyone on here has said soon enough Comcast Philly is going to lose its stranglehold of the CSN Philly network and there will be a mass exodus from Comcast.  Just watch out for the installer trying to nickle and dime you.  If you have questions about DTV check this site out www.dbsforums.com

I'm in heaven. All hooked up and ready to go.

Of course they came at like 4:55pm (we'll be there between 10a & 5pm) so they waited until the last second.

But I've got my DTV and regular cable too so I still have CSN.

Tomorrow shall be awesome.
