So fans question Reid again? (yeah, TO related)

MURP

Im just wondering fans thoughts as to why they would be anti TO all season just for the sake of it.

I root for the Eagles as a team.  Sure I root for individual players to make plays, but when it is all said and done, its the Eagles who win or lose.  When a superbowl is won, its a team effort.  It doesnt matter if there are players on the team who are selfish bastiches.   Even the almighty Jerry Rice has shown ridiculous selfish attitude issues at times.

So I read that some Eagles fans will hate TO forever, hope he is cut, hope he dies, hope he never plays again.  I say, dont you trust in Andy Reid?  Shall we look at what happened when we released/didnt sign/cut  Trotter, Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent, Carlos Emmons, Duce Staley, Hugh Douglas, Sean Landetta, Brian Mitchell, Sean Barber  etc....    Hasnt Reid made the right choice every time?  So far he probably has.    Right now, Reid chooses to have TO on the team.   If TO acts up again and Reid chooses to suspend/cut/trade him then ok... but for now, TO is an Eagle.  period.

Do you support the Eagles or root for/against individuals?  Do you support the coach that has turned this team around or do you still question his motives?    Hey, maybe TO blows up and is let go... than it was the right thing to do, but in the meantime I have to support Andy Reids choice.  For all Reid has done to turn this franchise around, he deserves it.     If you think your too cool and think its a  rah rah to your team, then I'll be sure to slap you in the face when we hoist the Lombardi.

If Andy Reid thinks its ok to keep TO on the team, than its ok for me.  And until TO decides to act up enough for Reid to get rid of him, Ill be hoping that TO catches 3 TD's every game of the year.  Because in the end, a Superbowl is all that matters.  No Eagle fan will give a crap that TO was or wasnt a part of a Super Bowl winning team 10 years from now.  All that matters is the final win.

Father Demon

I'm pretty sure that you're asking hypothetical questions, but I root for the team.  I'm HAPPY TO is on the team and (seemingly) going to play out the season.  If he catches 10 TDs and gets 1000 yards, and the Eagles win, then it's worth it to have him on.  And AR and the FO will decide what the best course of action is next season.

But, Go EAGLES.  And, as long as TO is on the Eagles, Go TO.....

I don't blindly trust the team anymore like I used to. I take their word for things, but when it comes down to it I get mad when they don't do something I want them to, and a very small part of me wants them to get hurt for going against what I want. But that is the vengeful part of me that naturally comes out, I can't control it. If there is a player out there that I really really want for example and the Eagles choose not to sign him for a reason such as them simply not wanting to, then I get mad and a small part of me wants it to come back hurt them to teach them a lesson. That is the way I am in life though, I'm a very vengeful person. If it is a legit reason like money issues or something like that then I don't mind. The whole TO situation I side with them on. I always want things done my way and will get mad when they aren't, but that won't stop me from being 100% behind the team at all times. So for me it really doesn't have anything to do with trust. If Brian Westbrook somehow manages to make it through the season without being signed then I will be extremely angry. I don't care how much success they have. I want him signed by the season's end and if he's not then a small part of me will want them to pay. My fandom for the Eagles is so big that I can hold most of my vengeful feelings back, but not all of them.

I love the birds!  You're right Murp, I cheer for the EAGLES.  I can't say I have a favorite player(Reno :paranoid).  In all seriousness, yes we all get caught up in the McNabbs, Westbrooks, dare to say it TOs, Dawks, Akers, etc.  but at the end of the game it's the birds I love.  From 2-11-1 in 1972 to 3-13 in 1999, from the misery of losing to Oakland in SB XV to the shock of losing the NFCG at home, last game at the Vet to Tampa I will always support this TEAM.

The only knock on AR is he can't win the big one - well hell at least were getting to the big one.  I don't care how he does it as long as he keeps doing it.  As long as the TEAM stays competive and continues to put itself in contention I will not complain.  Yes I want a Super Bowl victory in the worst way, but let's keep doing what we're doing.  It may be a long, bumby haul until we reach the promise land but we'll get there.

Wow, I don't understand your viewpoint even a little bit, Monster...can you give a specific example or two of this, where you wanted them to do something and it didn't work out for the best interests of the team?

I agree with you, Murp...I'm a fan of the Eagles. If the Eagles win the SB and TO is on the team contributing, let him help hoist the trophy. I trust in Reid, Heckert, JJ, Banner, et al...they've earned that trust. To hope the team you have rooted for loses because TO's on the roster makes no sense to me.

first off i wasted...point taken...i was with TO through all this shtein til it got out of control. at this point i don't give a rats ass if hes on the team or not.  im sick of hearing it, but im sure most of us ar.  given that i don't care how we do it. win a superbowl.  if we have to put up with TO than we have to do it.  l still like the dude as long as he contributes to us winnin. its a team game...u can't put the blame on one person.  some people may say hes disruptive...yadda...its yet to be told how he is going to handle all this.  but if the FO is willing to deal with him and move on then i am also.  yes the FO has the upper hand..and well if TO ddecides to be a baby then thats how itd gonna be.  what can we do?  nothing...but say farg the media farg the haters...we can winwithout a player. hes a player not our team.  so if this team has really got it together then wwe will prevail and we will win a superbowl.   i know this team has it...i know we can go the whole way.  lets please move on with the season already...

It's a little hard to explain through a message board, but I'll try. Firstly when the Eagles don't make a move, by the time you found out if it works out or not, I am no longer angry at the Eagles, but for example I was extremely angry when the Eagles didn't try to get Coles when he was a RFA from the Jets. We needed a receiver big-time and I didn't care about giving up a first rounder for him. When the taterskins ended up picking him up, I was very angry and for a second a part of me said I hope he burns the Eagles in both games this year so the Eagles will regret not doing it. Sometimes I am so caught up in revenge I don't care about anything else. Does that mean I want my team to lose? No. That feeling goes away after a few days or weeks too, and it all worked out for the Eagles... sort of. We played well without signing a big name receiver that season, but got smoked against Carolina, and after we lost that game that anger came back. I kept saying I can't believe we didn't pick up Coles. Technically you can say that move would've worked out for us. Mcdougle amounted to nothing and with TO being cut after this season we still haven't won a Superbowl yet. It would be nice to have Coles right now. Anyway that is one example.

Basically my point is that I agree with Murp that it's about the team and not individuals, but I don't agree with always giving the Eagles the benefit of the doubt. I don't care if they always end up being right. When I want a certain thing done and it's not then I get pissed off. Am I a professional GM? No, but that doesn't mean that I can't want something for the team. Does that mean I ever root against them? I'll never even remotely come close to rooting against them, but occasionally I'll hope something comes back uo bite em in the butt just light enough so that they may try something different as far as receivers go(not counting these last 2 seasons since we got TO). For me it's the same thing with the Phillies, except I don't love the Phillies nearly as much as the Eagles, so whenever the Phillies don't make a deadline deal or do something I don't like I will wish failure on them. I'll never do that with the Eagles because I love them too much, but I don't love the Phillies as much as the Eagles because I was never a huge baseball fan.

I used to doubt Andy Reid and his ability. But time after time he comes thru in flying colors.  The Trotter, Hugh, Vadge, Vincent, the drafting of Shawn Andrews over Stephen Jackson, and the list goes on.  While I may question the rhyme or reason to why he does things, I won't question how he runs this team and how he operates with his personel.  He is (or will be), in my opinion, the greatest head coach the Eagles have seen...better than Buddy, better than Vermil.  I know that him and Banner want to win that Championship just as much as the fans.

As far as TO, I just want to see him and McNabb get along and have a 'working relationship.'  I just want that Superbowl win....I could care less if TO is on the field or not, just as long as that happens.

This time last year I would have said that Reid needs to get this team to the SB in order to oust Vermeil as the best coach in Eagles history.  Now that he's done that, I think it's safe to say that he is the best the Eagles have had.

Vermiel - 1976 through 1982 (7 seasons)
Regular season record - 54 - 47
Post season record - 3-4
Playoff appearances - 4
Division titles - 1
Conf Champ appearances - 1
Super Bowl Appearances - 1

Reid - 1999 through present (6 seasons)
Regular season record - 64-32
Post season record - 6-5
Playoff appearances - 5  *Edited for idiots*
Division titles - 4
Conf Champ appearances - 4
Super Bowl Appearances - 1

That record is good enough for me.  Reid can do damn near anything he wants as far as I'm concerned.  If he hasn't proven himself to you yet then I think you're just placing unrealistic expectations on the guy.
