I'm on Obamacare.  Just got my cost increase letters.  18% increase on health care.  2.5% increase on dental.

Doctor sent me to get a colonoscopy.  I'm that age, fine.  Schedule it.

Get a note:  cost to me will be $2,000. 

I don't have that.  Barely have the monthly nut for the insurance which does nothing.

Cancelled the appointment.  I will also cancel my health care.  Can't afford it and don't get anything out of it.

Great system we have.

You can walk into some places and ask to pay the cash price. Which is usually a shtein ton less than having insurance.

And some places will not allow you to pay cash if you have insurance.

On a side note - I too need to get a colonoscopy soon

dental insurance feels like an amazing deal...its like $5 a pay period (so $120 for the year) and my regular bi yearly appts are free.

meanwhile health insurance is like $50-75 a pay period (for me, at least), i still have a co pay when i go and pretty much everything i still get billed hundreds of dollars for. its a total scam until you have a heart attack or tear your acl

Had a colonoscopy at the Philly va hospital end of September. Im good for another 10 years. In and out in an hour. The prep wasn't fun.

Yeah vision and dental are the tits.

Our health insurance is decent. I think I pay like $129 all in per check. Max out of pocket is like $4k and I have a $30 per office visit copay. When I had my cervical disc replacement that was over $225k so it was worth it then.

But I just had a full blood panel and what they bill insurance for that is wild. Like over $500.

My fiancée has her colonoscopy and an endoscopy on Monday. She's not happy with herself for booking them the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Best I can tell, it's not worth it.  No matter what, I'll be bankrupted by an emergency, doesn't matter what level of care I have.

I can't afford to spend 10% of my net income on health care, which is where it's at now, and that still leaves me with bills like $2k for a routine preventative procedure like a colonsocopy, money I straight up don't have.


I'm going without insurance for 2026.  If I get hurt, I'll go bankrupt.  If I get cancer, I'll go bankrupt and die.

It's fine and dandy to be a rebel and go out on your own but it's cold in the woods.  Luckily though, it's not lonely.  My case is really no different than millions of others.  At least there's no federal penalty anymore.  Thanks, Trump!

I'm unfamiliar with how Obamacare works but if the subsidies are extended (wouldn't hold my breath) does that lower your costs back to somewhat normal?
