sweep of the phillies locked and loaded
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Reds have lost three 1-0 games in a row

First time that's happened since 1960

Got bored and nerded it up tonight while watching the Phils.  I was wondering how some of the stats in baseball have changed over the years, and dug into Baseball Reference a bit, then made a spreadsheet.  Mainly hall of famers (or likely for more recent pitchers), along with Wheeler and Nola (and threw in Walker just for the heck of it).

What does it show?  It does reflect some things we already know:  fewer starts per year and fewer innings per start.

Mostly, I just need something to do to calm the raging Phillies anxiety.

Nice to see all that laid out

The era of treating a solid six inning start like it's a nine inning Bob Gibson gem enrages me

MDS

i dont think anyone does that, but you think they do so its true?

wheeler's numbers are probably off a little bit from his mets days and dealing with all those injuries. id be curious to see his phillies numbers isolated. the biggest difference is just how hard pitchers have to throw to get guys out...it absolutely destroys arms. most people seem to understand this. most people

Greg Maddux won 355 games with a fastball that wouldn't bruise you if he hit you with it.  And he threw 109 complete games too.

Teams also used to have four man rotations.

Pitchers get the hook once they throw 90 pitches too.  It's a farging farce.

MDS

i know you dont watch sports especially baseball anymore, but if prime maddux time traveled to today, he would be a bottom of the rotation starter. hed have to throw harder, or else.

oh and babe ruth would have as good a chance of me of hitting a homer

SD

Like football with acl's the ucl has problems handling the added velocity and torque. Read an article a few years ago a lot of pitchers say the added wear is also from lack of grip. They've really hampered down on sticky substances. I say if a pitcher is rolling and it's a one game deal let them roll but the days of back to back to back 100+ pitch games are long gone

Fun fact: Nolan Ryan threw a 164 pitch no hitter

MDS

nolan defied gravity and time...he was in his late 30s and 40s in what is close to the modern era mowing guys down. he would still be an ace today, but hes a 1 of 1
