thomson not having someone up behind hoffman was criminal. he was completely melting down and they just let him die. then they finally bring in a flyball pitcher (nice trade, dombo) and there's the game. notice how stanek was up quickly after diaz walked two. thats how you do it. unless youre a canadian POS

Agreed Todd, leaving Hoffman in was disaster. Topper even admited he was up and down in the pen three times, never really warmed up yet he got out of a huge jam.  Struck out Alonso, got the next guy on the weak tapper.  Good, nice work, he's done. I'm still just so infuriated and in disbelief how this lineup could continue to take the same approach at the plate during the postseason. 

That pathetic approach worked wonders until they played a real schedule come July.

33-34 since weekend before ASG. Including the playoffs, they went 34-37 over a span nearly the length of a half-season.

Average.  They were the Red Sox, Tampa, Toronto, Cards, Reds, Cubs.  Average.

i feel like a sleeper move is trading schwarber, just to free up the DH and some salary. he had a pretty good year and would be decently attractive on a 1 year deal. they have 3 younger guys (rincones, crawford, miller) who could be up, and opening up DH gives them real positional flexibility.

making up 40 bombs and a .330 obp wont be easy.
