Also worth pointing out that identifying as non binary now doesn't mean it's a static identity. Plenty of non-binary folks go on to start identifying more as a man or a woman as they grow. Makes sense that more teens, who tend to feel uncomfortable in their own bodies, start identifying more as "non-binary" while they figure it out, and while conforming to gender norms makes them feel uncomfortable in their own bodies.

I have a non binary student this year who presents as a girl and has female body parts who I would bet money ends up identifying as a woman in the future. Or, at the very least, she won't be transitioning to a male. She's just having trouble feeling like herself in her girls body at the moment. Who knows maybe she'll change in the future but def doesn't seem like she'll want to be a male based on what I can tell.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. It's a minority of kids and they asking to be referred to as they/them instead of he/him or whatever impacts my life 0%. They're living in a world more accepting of different gender identities and different sexual preferences and because of that, they're expressing it more often than previous generations and not having it beat out of them.

His shows been borderline awful this season, guests have been really meh, he's leaning too far right in a lot of cases for my taste, and to answer dio's question in the weather thread...despite my sunburned head still don't agree with Maher on climate change. He's not wrong on the trans issue, though. I like that he's a democrat (I wouldn't call him liberal anymore) who brings a different slant on the conversation.

its likely going to be a republican wallop in november because 1) thats the way things go the political party in power 2) people think the economy is crap and it kinda is...gas prices, grocery bills, baby formula...none of this is on biden but people are angry about it so they blame whoever is in charge 3) white people dont care about white nationalists taking over...maybe this should be #1 but what it all boils down to is white people and white men specifically would be OK with slavery coming back if it meant $2 gas

Weird that areas with high populations of less bigoted people might have a higher number of open sexual minorities.

Everybody's known at least one gay person since the 90s, probably. If someone doesn't know a single trans person in the year 2022, it's not because trans people don't live in that area. It's because those trans people know that person is a piece of shtein and already cut them out of their hypothetical lives.
