Where all the poor people at?
My people
These ones all rich or pretending to be

California has the highest poverty rate in the country. https://www.census.gov/library/publications/2021/demo/p60-275.html

Check out the parts that people haven't been priced out of. Along the coasts poor people can only live in tent cities.

It's the state with the highest population so it has the most people living in poverty but their rate % is 27th.

The link I posted is the supplemental poverty rate (which takes account of government transfers and cost of living). It is considered by economists to be a more accurate measure of real poverty. The older measure you linked is only kept around to allow comparisons over time. CA is #1 at 15.4%.

Having driven in every part of every state in the lower 48, I would also say that CA is the poorest by the eye test. So much real suffering visible in so many areas. Lots of rich people too. Mega inequality.

Joking aside, I really do find these two places I've visited unsettling.  It's like a fantasy land for the people who live here and I get the sense they have very little understanding that this is not normal.

Texas government actively courts California businesses.

And then the people move here and the Texas people bitch about them damn libs moving here. Its funny

Diomedes

Right now Texas government appears to be willfully driving inflation by stopping import trucks from crossing so Abbott can own the libs.  Not the smartest guy, is he.

I wouldn't live in Texas for any amount of money.  And I live in Florida so it's not like I'm choosy.

The thing is the beach town where I live might as well be Sea Isle.  Or at least it was when I moved here 30 years ago.  I paid $42K for my first house and it wasn't bad.  Half a block to the bay in a nice nbhd.  That same house is $250K now and rising.  It's unsustainable everywhere.  Plus the influx of pissed off northern iceholes here has made it worse.

Not too many Libs here, belee dat.

I own a 3/2 closer to the Everglades than to the beach in Collier County.  Built in 1998 for 109K on 2.5 acres of prime Florida swampland.  Right now, it's booking for 450K.  Of course, if I ever sell, I have to move out of state, because everything else is also really expensive.  The average rent for an apartment is over $2K a month.

I was given a weighted blanket.
I had no idea such a thing existed.

what a revelation.  I love it.  Pulling that thing up to my chin with a light breeze across my face from the super quiet fan falling asleep....bliss.
