this is pretty interesting to me, as a media nerd

so basically teenagers now have no way to tell the difference between, say, schefter reporting something and twitteruser1234 farting out something. because im the same way, i follow less than 100 accounts and none of them are randos or even fringe media figures. its legit writers and personalities, because their information is, you know, factual.

youre obviously a smart dude and im sure your kid aint an idiot but media literacy is a massive issue and needs to be taught in schools. its not just teenagers...adults do this same thing too. i know if i was 18 right now id be just like your kid, reading every fake rumor and tweet and thinking the eagles are going to package 2 firsts for russ wilson or something.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I don't know if it's the pandemic, Post-Trump stress, getting older, or a combination of all three, but I'm having a lot less patience watching sports this year.  I tend to mute the announcers - sometimes even the home team, and nearly always the national folks.  I just watch it muted.

My son (turns 18 this year) has gotten bigger into sports in the last couple of years, but not necessarily watching the games (other than the Eagles) a ton.  Rather, he follows them all on social media.  The kid has driven me bonkers with a thousand rumors about what the Eagles will do with their draft pick from every cyberwonk with an NFL GM fetish.  I follow a few Twitter feeds, but generally only the "official" sources.

Granted, I haven't watched an ESPN/Fox sports show that wasn't an actual game in at least five years, so who knows...

I'm mostly there with you. I haven't gotten to the muting of announcers but my viewing habits have changed. Normally I'd be deep into the draft stuff. Or watching every single nba and mlb game I can. Not anymore. I still watch when I'm in the mood but I just mainly check box scores in the evening. Unless it's the Phillies and Sixers but even then if I miss one nbd.

I'm still all in on college and NFL though. But I don't start watching pregame shows at 8am anymore.

And going back even further I used to watch PTI and Around the Horn. And then every single draft show. And Baseball Tonight (or whatever MLBN's nightly show is).

yeah i dont get watching games without sound...i could never do that....crowds are a big part of what makes sporting events...i will avoid announcers like on packages where i can get the road team guys i will always take that over the phillies...ill get a nice glass of red and kick back and just listen to the mets guys i dont even need a picture they are so good...and to that point the sound is almost more important for sports than the picture...id rather listen to almost any game over seeing and not hearing it

i barely watched any live sports last year because of covid and when i did i couldnt have cared less about what was happening

still like that with the nhl and their preposterous schedule but with fans slowly coming back i feel some sense of normalcy in baseball and the nba....and i will be 1 million percent all back in next year assuming nothing gets farged by covid again

and i still dvr all the espn talking head shtein...im whore for that shtein....i dvr from jalen and jacoby at 230 thru pti to 6 every day

nfl draft im still way into but i didnt watch a single cfb game last year so i am a slave to the wrte ups and not so much seeing shtein with my eyes

i would say the only thing ive fallen off on as ive gotten older is the nfl but nothing to do with age and everything to do with MAGA

Fox News would get months of content out of calling it liberal brainwashing classes.

The funny thing is, the Civics class shoehorned into 7th grade (so we can have a high-stakes 30% of grade end-of-course exam in middle school) had specification on media and bias.  This year the standards were changed, and that has been removed in favor of more rah-rah patriotic propaganda.

I'm glad I teach 8th grade.

Driving in Baltimore City is nuts.  It's f'n lawless.  This morning, I'm the second vehicle in the no-turn-on-red, right hand turn only lane, and the asshat behind me decides he ain't gotta wait for no one, so he goes around both cars in the left, straight-only lane, pulls a turn against the red in front of me and the car in front of me.  Typical behavior, literally never enforced.  Dangerous and frustrating, but no one gets hurt.

Less than a minute later, I'm still a little irked and I want to make a left at a light.  As I start to move, oncoming traffic doesn't stop at the light...I honk, angry and self-righteous, stop to avoid collision.  I look up.  The light is a green light.  Not a green arrow.  This time, I'm the farging icehole.  Oncoming traffic has right of way.

i do that first move all the time but not if the right lane is right turn only...nothing makes me more mad than someone getting in the right (instead of middle) lane at a light to go straight...it happens almost everyday at a light that takes you out of my neighborhood...95% of the cars go right at it to get to the parkway and iceholes go in it all the time to go straight even when there no cars in the middle lane

What this guy did was not what you do.  It was stupid and dangerous.

If I hadn't been so hopped up on self righteous indignation, I might have avoided being the icehole a few block later.  Instead, I let one icehole turn me into a second icehole.

On another subject:  how do spammers get voicemails into my phone without actually calling me?  Happens all the time.  No record of a missed call, just a new voicemail out of nowhere.  Always spam, never legit.

actually I do exactly what he did I just don't do it if the lane is right turn only

the circumstances are different but the move itself is identical

Ima bet you actually stop at the red light before rolling right in front of those people, and that you don't do it in front a a courthouse with cop cars parked on the corners, etc?  This town lawless.

i mean i make sure the first person in line is going straight...once i confirm i bust up the middle lane and make the right in front of them all in one swoop...but no i would not do it with cops around...i only do it to send a message to the ass at the front so maybe next time he/or she with think about someone or something other than themselves

Now that we've sorted that out.

What about the spammers in my voicemail?

theyre especially revolting knowing what we know about the fluidity of gender

humans dont know where they fall on that spectrum until later in life...how about you hold off claiming the penis kid is going to mr macho until they say so.
