Dems are going to try to expand voting, not restrict it.  Expand access to healthcare, not limit it.  They're trying to limit pollution, not encourage it.  They attempt to make government fair and equal, rather than corrupt and bigoted.  Democrats do in fact try to make peoples lives better.  They aren't very good at it, because being progressives by nature, they disagree and argue and split apart and all that shtein, and they have an opposition party that suffers no independent thinking or deviation from the purpose of winning and keeping power regardless what it takes, but let's be clear: they certainly do try to make lives better.

You can't just lump the two political parties together.

I'll give a Republican voter a pass, but a Republican politician is the equivalent of a mobster, or an Al Queda mullah..they're the enemy.

Democrats aren't going out of their way to be dicks like Republicans, but as much as they *try* to make lives better, they're not *going* to do anything to actually do it. As great as the ACA is, it undoubtedly benefited State Farm more than Joe Sixpack.

Democrats don't gerrymander only because the Republicans make them; they're just as interested in keeping power. To their credit, Democrats at least talk about fairness and equality, but won't enact anything that may cost them votes, and certainly not anything at the expense of upsetting their banking, insurancing, and oiling funders.

You're right...I can't lump the parties together, but just because one is way less bad than the other doesn't mean you can default the former to a good status

Joe Sixpack has done pretty well by the ACA.  To the degree it's failed him, let's talk about why.  Have Democrats been allowed to fix errors they admit they've made to it?  No.  Have Republicans cut it a thousand times.  Yes.  If State Farm is doing so well, this is not because the Democrats set it up to enrich private industy.  The only reason the plan even allows State Farm to continue selling heath insurance at all (if they do..do they??) is that it was a plan put forward by Republicans as a way to retain private health care companies but vastly increase coverage.  It was an ovation to the middle that, once offered, the Republicans ran away from as fast as they could, farging all. 

Garland the exact same thing example.   Offered a Judge they'd all universally endorsed beforehand, they set their lives upon denying him.

I live in a Democrat controlled City that has been very poorly served by government for a long time.  I'm not blind to the faults of the Democratic party, locally or federally.  There are no shortage of lousy politicians in the Democratic party.

But the difference is not to be compared.  You have to be on the same kind of spectrum to be compared.  These Republicans aren't even conservative.  Conservatives of good conscience have left the party.  What's left is not even a cogent ideology.  Their political platform is not something that could be articulated by anyone.  Fiscal conservative used to be the one thing they could always fall back on, but even that is undeniably ludicrous now.   The party no longer has guiding principles or proper orthodoxy at all.  It's a cult of Trump, a born demagogue, and evil person.

These Republicans are on a spectrum that allows proper comparison only to dictators, strongmen, banana republics, etc.

Democrats are just run of the mill government people, sort of left on the conventional scale.

Well yeah, the Democratic Party is both still stuck in the 90s Third Way era and beholden to big money donors thanks in no small part to Citizens United. They try to split the difference and end up only helping some people instead of helping everyone. I'm not going to pretend they're some shining example of a great political party.

But as Dio has touched on at this point...there's just no comparison. The GOP has intentionally farged this country up in the name of keeping and holding onto power. They don't care how many people htey hurt, how much they shred the principles of the Constitution, how much they debase themselves....they're a farging cancer on the country. Like Dio I can give at least some of their voters a pass because they're low information voters that don't know any better....but the ones that do and still willingly vote GOP can get farged with the rest of them.

That's an excellent point...fiscal conservatism and loving jesus even more than * used to be a semblence of a platform. Their, both elected and voter's, blindness to hypocrisy is the most frustrating. They paraphrasingly said, "Trump won; he's the POTUS now so respect" with no regard to how well Obama was respected when he unquestionably won. That racism is worse, but now people decry the impeachment as purely a political stunt, while that's a factor (professional though, unlike "storming the shelter"), they should remember the lengths they went to impeach a president about lying about cheating on his wife because they didn't find any evidence to support the questions about whatever -Gate the investigation was originally about.

At risk of hypocritically comparing the Democrats, if all Republicans were replaced by Democrats tomorrow, the majority of our budget would still be apportioned to our military.
