The bit about 'I saw the same pictures as you" drives me bonkers.  I know what he means.  I know people who think and talk like this.  He could hardly be worse.  I'll give him this, there is nothing in the universe more American than Our Dear Leader.  He's a very good personification of the very worst of America.

The Trumpers are going hard on the "but what about the alt-left/antifa/BLM" train now. Donny's dog whistle press conference was heard loud and clear by those delusional and repulsive people

My favorite part was the false equivalency of Robert E. Lee & George Washington.  I mean, really?

Washington:  General of the Army that freed us from English Tyranny.   First President of the United States.  Undisputed Father of Our Country.

Lee:  Treasonous traitor who led military revolt against the same country and, oh, by the way, LOST.  If he had won, we'd be the Confederate States of America.

He is literally insane.   NOT hyperbole there either.  IN-SANE.

Just playing Devil's Advocate (how appropriate a term right now).

If Washington had lost:  Treasonous traitor who led military revolt against King and Country.  And Washington and his wife owned over 300 slaves.

BTW, Lee was married to Washington's step-great-granddaughter.

Edit:  If you want a hard but good read on Washington and his moral wrestling with slavery, try An Imperfect God by Henry Wiencek.

1. Alabama
2. Facebook and social media can all go away. And it seems to me that more of these righties get their "news" from Facebook.
3. Still blaming Obama

Jay's second point brought to mind a question I've had for awhile:

I've technically had a twitter account for roughly 3 years, but have never posted, and only have read tweets that I have come across elsewhere on the internet (i.e. I don't actually follow anyone).  I originally made the account with the idea of using it for my class, but found better options before using it.  I do read and post on Facebook a few times a week.

Is Twitter even more of a train wreck than Facebook?  Even discounting Trump's megalomaniacal postings?

Twitter is full of bots. Porn bots, nazi bots, and ad bots. It is a dumpster fire.

The man. The myth. The legend.

twitter is probably more of a cesspool because of the anonymity of it. facebook generally you have your name attached but that doesnt seem to stop people. twitter is a hangout for the alt right/neo nazi crowd more so than facebook.

with that said, if you dont go down the rabbithole, twitter can be good. you control who comes in your feed, you control what you see. its a good place for news so long as you get your news from legitimate sources (you dont strike me as a guy who will follow cernovich)
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Lil guy is right - it's when you go down that cesspool rabbit hole that makes you feel like the world ending wouldn't be such a bad thing. The anonymity of it empowers people. So when I see people getting outed for their racist shtein I smile inside.

And I get a bigger justice boner when people are fired for it. They like to spout about the constitution but they forget that doesn't protect them from employers.

Facebook can kinda be the same especially when the lunatics have their own groups. "I saw on Facebook that the blacks started it" ends up meaning the truth to people. Even more so now with the whole fake news things. What Redneck Uncle Billy says means more than the NYT of WaPo

Twitter is okay for breaking news events, tho sometimes too many people try to be "First" and get important details wrong.

I second what MDS says. Most of my general 'news' tweets that I see come from either them being shared on other websites, or the people I follow liking or retweeting them. I didn't follow all the usual news sources because I didn't feel like hearing about it all the time lol...so as far as politics/news go I follow mostly health care writers and wonks and that way the majority of what I see that way is the things I actualyl want to see/read. That control makes it a bit better than facebook, IMO.

It's a good way to keep up with musicians you like or sports news sources or etc. I've used to follow local sports writers for example so I can keep up on some of the HS football happenings around here. I've been able to have small back and forths with some of my favorite musicians that are active on there, which is pretty cool.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

If I'm not mistaken (and I very well could be) what helped Twitter gain popularity in it's early days was that they were able to get a few celebs to sign up with verified accounts and use twitter as a means to broadcast to and interact with their fans.  I think they might have been the first social network to get celebs on board and verified.  Or if they weren't the first, maybe they just did it better.

Anyway, it seems like a cesspool and trying to read a twitter thread is a god damn nightmare so I avoid looking at it as much as humanly possible.

MDS

you dont 'read' twitter. you decide what comes into your feed. if you want to go down the racist rabbithole its a click away but if you follow 50 accounts and its all sports writers and wapo/nytimes people thats all youll see. youll never see a mike cernovich tweet or a pepe meme.

thats only true if you dont read replies

i dont think the question is which is worse facebook or twitter because they are so different....but if you want to go there facebook is far worse in my opinion because zuckerberg welcomes fake news as it ups his membership total and they allow anything and everything to be posted under the guise of real news...shtein he admitted trump was the best thing thats ever happened to facebook....thats why i quit it....and thats just the political/social issue aspect of it....forget the fact that 90% of your own friends on facebook make you wanna throw yourself out a window...and thats with none of them even being republicans

twitter on the other hand i for the most part really enjoy...at least as much as you can enjoy a social media site
