Went out with some customers last night to the Astros game. Ended up getting home and to bed around 430am. Had a killer hangover this morning - probably the worst I have had in a decade. Introducing fireball into the mix was a bad idea. I can't drink like I used to!

Wtf did you used to drink en masse that was so god damned weak that fireball put you on your ass?  Farging fuzzy navels?

PhillyPhreak54

I don't drink liquor often anymore so when I do especially mixed with beer it fargs me up. I used to drink tequila a lot but can't even smell it now or I'll get sick.

We started off drinking before the game, drank at the game and then hit two bars after. I thought I was good until I laid down and the spin started happening.

I gashed my leg open on something too and have no idea how.

Sgt PSN

A really sharp penis most likely you fireball drinking nincompoop.

PhillyPhreak54

Hahaha

Well I was just being a good supplier and providing the customer with what they wanted...someone to guzzle fireball with them

This United story is wild. And their CEO/PR response is even worse.

I have to fly them a lot and I don't like them. But such is life when living in a hub city.

I always look to take their money when they offer for taking later flights but in this instance the next flight out wasn't until 3pm today...so I can understand them not getting volunteers.

Am I the only person who thinks the person being removed from that plane was at least half the problem himself?

You don't have a civil farging right to the seat.  Read the ticket.

You and maybe a few others but that's it.

You paid for the ticket. In this situation you have a right to that seat. In an overbooking situation you sort it out before you board the plane.

Diomedes

No, that's just not the case.  Educate yourself.

You have no right to the seat until the plane leaves the ground.  You have rights regarding compensation should you be bumped from the flight, but that's it.

Read the contracts you sign.

UA surely farged themselves with the yoga pants girls and here again--tell me that a third or fourth round of increasing payments to volunteers for getting bumped wouldn't have produced both the four needed seats and a far lower cost to the airline--but when airport security is called to remove you from a plane and you resist, then you've joined the icehole brigade along with the others.

You're right - they should've increased the offer. I'm sure that was complicated by the fact that it was United Express and therefore a contractor flying under a DBA.

And the dude who was taken off - how was he chosen? What was their method? Other airlines will usually use the sequential number generated when you check in. Last to check in means first to get involuntary denied boarding.

So this dude is a doctor who needs to get home to see his patients. Why was he singled out?

Bottom line is he shouldn't have been dragged off the plane. He's elderly. Hope those fake ass cops felt tough last night.

I'm with Dio on this. The system is not the best and United botched this ten different ways, but when an airline tells you to get off the plane, you get off the farging plane. shtein happens and sometimes they can't fly you, that's always part of the deal. Don't be an entitled baby about it and camp out on their property while they're trying to meet a schedule. Feel free to complain about it as much as you want, after you get off the plane.

Him being a doctor shouldn't enter into it at all. There's a lot of reasons that planes can't always meet your schedule. What would his patients be doing if the flight was cancelled for weather?

Diomedes

Elderly?  What is security supposed to do when he resists?  Give up?  Then what??  Are you kidding?

Regarding how he was picked, my understanding is that after the second offer, of $800 for each of four volunteers ( which was double the first offer that had already been rejected by every single passenger,) the four people were randomly selected.  This according to reporting I heard on NPR this afternoon.  I haven't read anything since.

The plane had already boarded. At this point the rules of involuntary denied boarding comes into play which weren't followed apparently. They were doing this to accommodate employees. The involuntary denied boarding rules require written notification and you're also entitled up to $1350 in cold hard cash...not airline dollars which expire and have restrictions.

You don't drag and elderly person off the plane. Full stop.

I've read a lot of reports on this so far including people who were on the plane and they stated he was not belligerent in any way and even volunteered earlier until he realized they wouldn't get him home until the 3pm flight the next day.

Airlines can book you on competition too. United had another flight that night and earlier ones the next morning. Competitor airlines had flights too.

The cops - aviation and not traditional Chicago PD - handled it poorly. But they should've refused to get involved in this. It's between the airline and passenger and the guy wasn't causing a problem.

United CEO has issued a terribly tone deaf statement too. They're going to be sued and I hope they lose their asses.
