When your grandchildren ask about the fall of the NFL, you can just play them this video.

Lolol

Him and Deion (and mooch) and all their yelling is one main reason I can't watch their shows any longer

i never said its been better than its ever been. the game to me is about the same as its always been, just perhaps sloppier in the early stages because of the limited practice reps. you also have more injuries because guys are so much bigger and stronger than they were before, which leads to more back ups playing and therefore less talent on the field.

and that's the thing - the ratings are taking a hit.

Why? Overexposure is one reason IMO. Lousy games. Inability to flex out of any game. Who wants to see the Bears again in prime time? Do they really have to have Thursday nights? Nope.

I believe lousy on field product which includes the officiating is also a reason.

you believe yet you have no evidence. the product on the field is about the same as it was last year and the year before that when the nfl was setting ratings records. now, all of a sudden, 10% of the audience is like "this sucks, im out." nope.

i dont expect you to follow this like i do, but nfl exposure is flat to slightly up. meaning more people are consuming it, just not watching it for long enough to be counted by neilsen. its very weird. basically 10% of the audience is skimming it and not sticking with it. why? who farging knows.

Quote from: PhillyPhreak54 on October 16, 2016, 08:41:07 PMYou're right I don't miss games. I like football. And that's why I'm pissed because it could be so much better but they ignore obvious fixed in the name of a couple more bucks.

How about the NFL stopping the teams from using video clips?! Asinine.

i dont know if your opinion of how they should fix it would cost them money but i can assure you the nfl will never stop trying to make as much money as possible, like most businesses.

also nobody cares about the social media policies for team accounts

Which brings me to another bitch...not allowing the roster to be fully used. Why make 7 inactive every week?

strategy and fairness. every game means something, so if 1 team has 50 healthy players and the other has 52....why should one team get to play with 2 more guys? i wouldnt be opposed to increasing the active number, but this is the big boy league.

Don't worry, I'm sure the clash of horrible AFC South teams tonight will do wonders for the primetime season ratings.

this is more than anything the reason for the ratings drop. the nfl is impossible to predict. in april this seemed like a decent game. in october, it isnt. the tv contracts allow them to move things around, but not significantly so. i would anticipate the next tv deal, i think for 2022 or 2023, will be radically different in its construction to allow games to be moved around on a week to week basis.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

If they don't have à la carte free streaming by 2023 then I don't know what the farg they're doing.

There definitely aren't enough good players for a 32 team league, though.

Same as in baseball. You've got guys who shouldn't be in the league...in the league.

Packers corners today? Not NFL players. But they're there. Which brings me to another bitch...not allowing the roster to be fully used. Why make 7 inactive every week?

i dont get saying there are not enough players for 32 teams but you want 224 even more zesty players to be active each week
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

The dropoff that far down the roster isn't so bad as to make the product worse by having them available to use.

the market wouldnt have shifted in that direction yet

a decent chunk of my friends still have cable. i dont foresee that changing over the next decade. then add in the boomers who dont die by then. its still going to be a significant enough portion of the country. i mean right now traditional tv still utterly destroys streaming consumption, specifically for live events.

its pretty obvious sports leagues are going to have to offer a streaming component to their next deals, to make sure they are available to cord cutters, but im not exactly sure how they will coexist with the traditional tv component.

I'm not saying they'd be better but having your full roster available would be nice.

Lil guy makes a point about it being fair but if they dug into it they could find a way to make it work. Maybe let teams have a DL. But that means more $$.

And I don't begrudge businesses from making money. Where I have a problem and this isn't NFL exclusive is when that desire affects their product. Which it has done so in the NFL.

PhillyPhreak54

Another thing I think the video clip thing is a snapshot of the league being obtuse.

Same with MLB and them going after anyone who makes gifs or posts videos.

MDS

its more about control than anything. they cant stop people from sharing videos and clips but they want to control everything on their end. its dumb, i agree, but its so stupid and arbitrary.

and baseball hasnt sent out the gif police in like 6 years. it was an archaic strategy that existed under that fossil selig

In the next decade television standards will probably move from 1080p to 4k or 8k, and most places will not have internet speed capable of anything better than 1080p streaming quality. Comcast isn't exactly rushing to roll out fiber. TV will always be the best option to watch, but it shouldn't be the only free option.

If they want to appeal to the mobile crowd having video is paramount

You don't stop the teams from being able to post shtein of their own players

fox, cbs and nbc are free.

they also have a ton of money and will be willing to pay enough to prohibit their games from coexisting on twitter, google, yahoo, etc.
