If you aren't acknowledging that Trump was at the forefront of birtherism since 2010 you are being more willfully ignorant than the people you're chastising.  False equivalencies aren't okay.

HRC is not great.  She is tremendously flawed as a candidate.  I don't particularly trust her and she wouldn't be my first second or 99th choice as president.  That being said, it's not ok to basically act like she and Trump are equally bad.

I'll take your false equivalency and raise you one.  I said nothing of the sort.  I am voting for HRC, and it's not even a close decision for me.

What concerns me, deeply, is how close this race still is.  What I am pointing out is that calling Trump supporters racists and deplorables is not helping and I would argue that it's hurting the HRC campaign.

You folks want a President Trump, keep doing what you're doing.  I've made my points.
I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right.

Eagles_Legendz

You may have not explicitly said it but it's been occurring regularly in the media throughout the campaign.

I also agree that it was not wise from a strategic standpoint to call them deplorables, but I do think there's truth to the sentiment.  So that depends on whether you're arguing that it was an inaccurate statement or whether it wasn't politically savvy.

You certainly were implying that you thought claims of Trump's racism and xenophobia were inaccurate.  I disagree with that and am not sure how someone who follows what he's saying closely can assert otherwise.  If it's limited to a cost/benefit analysis of HRC outwardly attacking his supporters, we can have a reasonable discussion about the merits of that tactic.

MDS

not everyone who supports trump is a bonafide unequivocal racist, but if youre not then you dont really care about it. does not caring about the existence of racism make someone racist or just stupid and ignorant? id lean toward the latter.

i talk to people all the time who dont pay attention one lick to the election and all they know about trump is that hes crazy and that hillary is evil. if you start explaining factual information about who trump its met with confusion because they legit never heard it before.

also when i first heard about obama in 06/07, before he announced, i thought he was muslim. i dont remember where i heard that or how i heard it, but he was speaking at a rally for some mayoral candidate in philly. my buddy said obama was coming. i was like "oh the muslim senator?" then he told me was christian, not muslim. maybe i started the birther movement.

Might not be a great campaign tactic, but it's basically the only thing she's said so far that actually made me look at her like she's not a total biatch.

thats like half the adult population

so many people dont care at all and dont pay attention at all

its among the downfalls of our society -- indifference. people are so selfish and only concerned with themselves. the average person is doing fine and therefore doesnt feel the need to pay attention.

Yahoo secretly scanned customer emails for US intelligence

QuoteYahoo Inc last year secretly built a custom software program to search all of its customers' incoming emails for specific information provided by U.S. intelligence officials, according to people familiar with the matter.

The company complied with a classified U.S. government demand, scanning hundreds of millions of Yahoo Mail accounts at the behest of the National Security Agency or FBI, said three former employees and a fourth person apprised of the events.

Some surveillance experts said this represents the first case to surface of a U.S. Internet company agreeing to a spy agency's request by searching all arriving messages, as opposed to examining stored messages or scanning a small number of accounts in real time.

I don't know anyone over the age of probably 21 who isnt going to vote...granted their interest comes in at varying degrees...but my god who is completely disengaged in this election

When I was 21, I was pretty disengaged. Probably would be if I were 21 today, too.

hbionic

It's actually very easy to be disengaged.

If you have to work and have a family, that usually creates enough of a distraction to be disengaged.

Big deal if you know what is going on. But it's worthless if you're not active doing something about it. "Sharing" shtein on social media doesn't count as doing something.

I think the minimum engagement is congregating or exchanging ideas (such as this forum) is because it may inspire someone to the point of becoming even more active or piss someone off to the point of becoming more active. But for the most part, the majority who are engaged, are at a minimum, and they sit at the sidelines. At least it has been my experience.

The current system counts on a sedentary population.

So going back to being disengaged, it's easy. It's lazy, and being engaged takes effort, but I can see why people are disengaged. During this or any election cycle. Worse now because there are so many news outlets that the over saturation has created a "I'm tired of hearing about this shtein" attitude in people.

I'm not sure which would be worse:  that he's the fool he seems, and actually believes all this shtein or that he's a true demagogue, a la George Wallace.
