I still think that you were insane for declaring that before the season started.  They're holding up in the 2nd half of games because the offense is sustaining drives and putting points on the board, and pretty much no one saw that coming.

The defensive line controls this defense. They're ten deep. The safeties are good and the CBS are doing enough.

So like I said - top ten squad

The defense completely shut down a top 3 NFL offense and has allowed 2 TDs all year.

It's officially okay to think they are good.

It was still a completely irrational prediction. You know that if this offense was what most people were expecting, the defense would suffer tremendously, right?

Irrational to watch the talent and think "hmmm this is a good group" and then see how Schwartz has used his players in the past? Did he have a great offense in buffalo?

It isn't hard to give the board homer some credit once in awhile. Because unlike igy thinking I get it from reading some know nothing beat writers...I know what I'm looking at sometimes lol

The thing that it seems like no one is taking into account with this defense is that, while it looks to be a good defense, this very well could be a defense that plays a game's worth of snaps in the first 3 quarters.  It's not unreasonable to think that this offense is going to be bad...like, really bad.  And if they aren't able to sustain a few drives, then I don't care if you've got the 85 Bears on defense because they're going to get worn out. 

Paired with a good offense, this defense has the potential to be pretty damn good.  But there's not much of anything from the preseason that would indicate that the offense is even going to be average, much less good.  Defense will probably keep them in games that they otherwise have no business being in, but I suspect that they'll fold in the 4th most of the time.

I think it was irrational to think that the defense would get enough help from the offense in order to be a top 10 unit. Offense caught everyone off guard. They are somewhere beyond pipe dream right now.

The thing that was difficult to predict was how well Schwartz is managing the team's serious deficiencies at cornerback. His scheme has been masterful. Brown had like 150 yards today and it didn't even matter.

Don't get too attached though. He'll be the HC in Cleveland or SF in about 5 months.

I said pretty much the same thing to my son today.  Brown had the most worthless bunch of catches and yards I've ever seen.  There just was nothing on the Pittsburgh offense going besides him.
