lets have this discussion!

rbi is a team stat. you need players on base in order to knock in runs. its not an utterly pointless barometer of success, but it can be very misleading and unequal because, say, freddie freeman and david ortiz (two middle of the order hitters), do not see even close to the same kind of opportunities. i dont see how this is hard to comprehend.

average, specifically this early in the season, is very random. a 4/4 day from bryce tomorrow bumps his number up like 15 or 20 points or something. then thered be no MOCK. but with average you really have to first look at thousands of at bats to get a true understanding of a hitters capabilities. not to mention, luck and random chance is factored into the game. bloops, bleeders, swinging bunts, questionably scored hits, etc. then theres great defensive plays, park factors (i.e. a 330 foot drive being a homer in 1 park and an out in another). exit velocity is an interesting thing to look at...that pretty much tells you the type of contact a player has off the bat -- typically hard hit balls result in hits (really?). but its not even perfect. look who the leader is.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I was at the game at Fenway tonight but left in the 6th to watch the NBA game. Not a single bar in this terrible city is playing it on a single tv. Red Sox on all 9000 screens. Finally got one place to change it for me and people booed.

QB Eagles

How do we feel about making the intentional walk automatic? I wasn't really looking for that particular way to speed up the game. I'm going to miss teams farging them up.

Also I'm kinda annoyed that batters never seemed to embrace the strategy of swinging at a few of those. I guess they didn't want to look stupid, but it isn't the worst plan. Up the pitch count, see if you can goad the pitcher into throwing real pitches, and maybe even connect like Miggy did on that sloppy IBB attempt a few years ago.

No. I mean I'll never agree.

Exit velocity is getting annoying. Everyone talks about it now

I'd get up and walk out as well.  Could be a tied WS game 7, the minute they piped that shtein in Fenway I'd run for the nearest exit.

should be automatic...the four pitch ibb makes the old extra point feel like an inside the park homer...its utterly useless
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

PhillyPhreak54

Agreed. Automatic ibb is fine.

Now cut down the farging commercial times between innings too

ice grillin you

the length of baseball games has never bothered me....I just think the 4 pitch ibb is stupid

its a sport meant to be enjoyed over the long haul...where you can take a nap in the middle of the game and only miss a few innings...where you have a good 2.5 hrs before beer sales get cut off...sit outside and shoot the shtein with a bunch of friends all afternoon...etc

youre mr. old school cranky old fart dont change anything about the game and you want the auto ibb....what

also the commercial length has little to do with the length of game. talk to king joe maddon about his 100 pitching changes.

SD

I never had a problem with the length of games. Fine with doing away with the intentional walk, but what is there maybe one per game...so you're saving about 1 minute, big shtein.

MDS

cutting down the length of game would require changes to the strike zone (done, i guess) and limiting pitching changes and mound conferences.

the ancillary things like reviews and tv commercials are easy things for the twittersphere to blab about, but they do little to contribute to the overall length

back to bat flips...like this one. predictably the pitcher gets all butthurt cause he got taken deep. boohoo make a better pitch next time.
