One would think so, but some people only see the bill in front of them.  Hell, we had 3 realtors in the area who agreed the average return would be around 10% of the property value for a majority of the homes.  Even if you don't get that valuation increase, selling would be that much easier.

On Sunday, my neighborhood will be doing a count of votes collected over the past 3 weeks to determine if we pave 3.7 miles of roads in the community.  This marks the 5th time that it's been sent out as a vote in the past 25 years, last time in 2009 it lost by 6 votes.  It'll end up as a one time cost of around 2k for each lot, and would significantly reduce the annual maintenance dues since a majority of the expenses are tied to keeping up roads held together with gravel and millings.

I've spent the better part of a year involved with the planning process, and I still have no clue which way it's going to go.  If it doesn't pass, the yearly dues will go up about 400 bucks because the volunteer labor force is done maintaining it.  We'll just hire a contractor and they can charge what they want.

Approved with a 66% vote yesterday, way better than I was expecting.  Hopefully can get everything done before the winter, plowing sucks ass on gravel.
