Boardwalk Empire was excellent. GOT is pretty epic, but clearly not made for everyone. It's become cool to bash True Detective because it made a mess of itself as the season went on, but it was still very well done and a lot a fun to watch. I am coming from decades of absolutely despising TV and HBO has kind of brought me back. I'm not sure what you want from these shows. I mean, it's farging television and the quality with which HBO is doing this shtein is pretty impressive for a substandard medium.

youre welcome to believe both shows are awful, because they are. but between GOT and these 2....HBO is doing very well. all those subscriber fees, all those licensing fees, all those dvds sales go to what's called "operating expenses." and those allow them to waste, i dont know, like 15 million on something david simon jerked off onto a blank sheet of paper.

treme was amazing. it doesnt get made unless theres populist hits around to sustain it because the audience for that show was me, havas, alan sepinwall and 3 elitists in new orleans.

That's accurate.  Whether you want to argue about the quality of GoT or not, its popularity allows HBO to take swings on creative shows with limited audience appeal.

HBO has been on a downward spiral for quite awhile now....this is nothing new...im probably missing one and there may be one or two that I haven't seen but  other than the leftovers I can't think of a new HBO show that has moved me in maybe the last ten years?...if not quite ten years at the very least they have been going downhill for a long time

It's your opinion the station is going down because there aren't shows that YOU like. There are plenty of quality shows and HBO is doing well. I think that's everyones point. Just because igy doesn't like something doesn't mean the rest of the world should agree. I don't care about HBO, I stole my aunts password and stream it on my iphone.

i never said they didnt have shows that do well....i said the overall quality of their shows has been hurting for quite a while...not everything sucks but its been a pretty weak run they have been on....

im so proud that ballers got a solid audience tho
