How's everyone going to feel when Kelly trades Kendricks for a white injured back-up OL jack-of-all-trades who has shown promise and behaves like a good corporate citizen?

the rebuild strategy itself could be its own board....and my feelings on that process so far are pretty well known

releasing Mathis is a pretty meaningless spec on the over arching rebuild

now if you thought the birds had any sort of real shot this year then I'd be furious with this move

Herremans with a decent take on the situation.

Quote"I think it's kind of unfortunate for Evan. I think he kind of brought it upon himself, though, by not showing up. We expect them to stick to the contract that they offer us, that they sign us to, and they expect us to do the same. If you're going to violate some of the things that are expected out of you then you have to be able to deal with what comes next."
...
"[Chip Kelly's] main goal is to get everybody on his roster that wants the same thing, and the way that he looks at it is if you're not here during the voluntary stuff when all your teammates are trying to work together to win, then that means that you don't want the same thing that everybody else does, that you don't want to win. You want money, you don't want to win." ... "Which isn't true. I know that Evan wasn't happy with his contract, but he also wants to win. And he's a monster in the gym so I know he was working out keeping himself in shape."
...
"[Kelly] knows that he's got Al [Allen Barbre] that can play and [Matt] Tobin can play and [Andrew] Gardner can play. And given the chance to start, they can become starting guards in this league. But from the outside looking in, it is a tough move."
...
"I really, honestly, deep down think that the Eagles are going to have a good season. I think they're going to have a winning season," he said. "They may make the playoffs. I know there's been a lot of changes and everybody's questioning and stuff like that, but I really think you should just sit there and let Chip do what he's going to do and then see what the final product is because there is no sense in judging it until it's all done."

nfl teams dont stick to their contracts....if they aren't cutting you they are asking you to restructure

also voluntary means you don't have to come....guess nfl teams don't stick to this concept either

being a top 5 or 10 guard is kinda like the tallest midget thing

but still top 5 26 year old guard I'm prob ok with caking off...re doing a 34 year old top 5 guard not so much...especially so when you are in the middle of a rebuild

THIS.

Plus Mathis is exactly the wrong sort of personality you want on a team where the head coach is trying to establish a system that rewards hard work and conformity.  I'm not saying I agree with that line of thinking, mind you.  Not necessarily anyway.  I'm just saying it's ridiculous to reward guys who go off the reservation the way Mathis does frequently.  He was an Andy guy and he's out.  Buh-bye.

In practice, Chip's system looks an awful lot like Banner's so far.

In Mathis's case it looks like every other team's.  How many teams tolerate 33 year-old interior linemen holding out for more money?

Christ - not even the farging taterskins would put up with that bullshtein.

QuoteIn almost 5 minutes (4 pm ET), Evan Mathis will officially become a free agent after Eagles submitted his name to NFL as being released.

whats more concerning is chip not drafting a single offensive lineman the last two years

Post of the off season.  How farging true.  I am still baffled by that move.

eagles signed this dude to take mathis' roster spot

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
