I don't mean literally missing like a milk carton...but he basically just becomes another sports talking head...just like when anyone leaves espn....has anyone ever left the leader and gotten bigger....they mostly all either disappear or kinda just fall into mediocrity

QB Eagles

His readership and media exposure will certainly go down, but I think the quality of his content will be better with more freedom. I don't know that he's planning to just replace ESPN with Fox or NBC or whatever like a canned anchor or sportscaster would. I expect him to branch out with his own media outlet (perhaps backed by someone else but with more of a free hand than Grantland) and make side deals with the big media companies so he can pop up on TNT during the playoffs or wherever he wants to throw in two cents.

He's interested in trying new things. He might fail totally but I'd be a little surprised if he just goes to Fox Grantland.

I definitely don't think he will fail but I think he takes a huge step back

dan patrick? he seems to be doing ok.

hes not hosting SC anymore but his radio show does well....nbc football host...doing that sports jeopardy jawn.

simmons will be fine. hes too popular not to. but there will have to be a downgrade because when it comes to sports there espn, and then everything else.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

lol dan patrick is a ghost...please don't tell me that's simmons ceiling

thats like the perfect example of what he ends up being

i dont agree with that, but im not really sure how someone becomes more visible to you by leaving espn

again there is no bigger sports property....how in the world could he be bigger or even equal? its obviously not about that for him.

they don't...its kinda my point....dan Patrick show is like the perfect example of what simmons will be if he goes to some other network other than hbo

yea, thats not a bad thing

dan is doing pretty well for himself. youre not really a sports media guy, but believe me, his shows do well and being the host of nbc football is a major, major gig. its not being in the espn orbit, but then again nothing can be.

like i said simmons will find a home for his writing and podcasting and it will be fine. he'll lose some audience because people will just forget about him without links directly on espn, but between his facebook/twitter followers, promotion, linking around social media, he'll survive. going to hbo or netflix or nbatv for tv stuff will actually improve on what espn offers.

i think hed do well on hbo, doing a quarterly show like costas did and like they tried with joe buck. he could produce some docs for them, too. remember they stopped doing docs because of 30 for 30. netflix id imagine would godfather him, too. so he could take that.
