Actually, my stance on this issue is pretty simple.  I don't believe he's a Hall of Famer based on talent or performance.  He's the best defensive back this team has ever had and he's one of my all time favorites, but I don't think he's a transcendent HOF'er.

But that's not the point at all.

The question is, will Dawkins be a HOF'er?  The answer to that question is "yes."   Does he deserve it?  No.  Will he make it?  Yes.

I actually think he probably does deserve to make it but won't (for a long time anyway).  Dawkins (maybe deservedly) never had the reputation of Reed or Polamalu.

Dawk was phenomenal but the absence of a ring is an issue.  I know it's not supposed to matter, but the reality is, it really does.

If he was a 2 or 3 time Super Bowl winner, he'd be a shoo-in.   As it is he's going to be one of those guys who gets in because of Jeffrey Lurie's politicking and because he was universally loved by the guys he played with and against.

And because so few other Eagles will be going in from his era.  It'll be a pity vote, and not first ballot.

Completely agree.  No way he's a first ballot guy.  I could be wrong, though.  Reggie White was the last Eagle enshrined and there's no one other than Dawk who's remotely close from that era.  Jason Peters is the only current Eagle who's a lock.
