The tater skins planned to bring Marcus Mariota to Virginia for a visit. I'm told they couldn't work out a time, so that trip is now off.

Guaranteed for injury only, so they could still cut him for performance. Unless his poor performance is from playing with a blown out knee.

RG's $16.2M option was picked up for 2016

I usually would point and laugh but Sam Bradford

ice grillin you

the difference is bradfords 13 mil is for this season....griffins 16 mil is for 2016 and he can be cut anytime btwn now and the start of the 2016 year with no penalty....they basically are getting an extra year of looking at him for free....picking up these options in the nfl is a no brainer for any team

clearly you and easy needed this info cause there was not even a small reason to ever mock the move (bradford or not) as its a no lose for washington

What reason could they possibly have to throw in another year to look at him? They could have traded him to some team stupid enough to pick up a fragile bust when the market was still hot for that sort of player.

I'm not from Philly but some say I'm blunt.

It's not a no brainer or without any downside. You can debate the baggage and distraction factors. But as I'd mentioned, if RG blows out a knee the team is still on the hook for his salary.

the injury thing carries pretty much zero risk since it has nothing to do with 2015....it only guarantees the money if rg3 cannot play at all in the 2016 season...it would have to be a catastrophic injury to prevent him from playing any games in 2016

the baggage and distraction factors also apply to 2016....if hes a douchebag again this year they cut him with no penalty...if he becomes tom brady in the locker room then they have him for another year to see if hes really changed...same for his on the field play....if he returns to his rookie year form this season then you got him locked up....if he blows then you cut him with no penalty

i think you are confusing what option this year was for....its for the 2016 season not this upcoming season

complete no brainer

I don't think I'm the one confusing anything. If RG blows out a knee in preseason (yes, 2016), which is very possible, the taterskins have to pay him the $16+ million whether he plays another down or not. It doesn't have to be catastrophic at all, just a normal run of the mill RG torn ligament. Or shoulder, or foot or whatever.
