it's pretty incredible that either carolina, new orleans, or san francisco will have to come play the eagles in the first round of the playoffs.

AP expects to play.  good, no chance of defensive letdown.  they still shouldn't have any problem rolling.

The top two rushers in the NFL are probably going to have super quiet days playing against each other. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Yep, no chance either of them goes off for another 200 yard game. No sir. Against the 15th and 22nd run defenses in the NFL? Not farging likely, amirite?

also why is the outer banks showing eagles and not taterskins

I know the players want to play against the other team's best so that they can beat them with pride but as a fan, to hell with that idea.  I am glad AP isn't playing.  I'm also hoping for a miraculous Aaron Rodgers healing so they can stomp the cowboys.

Same here, I'm guessing it has to do with RGIII and the fact that the skins had higher ratings last  year.

I don't know if anyone knew this or not, but I'm a wee Todd. It just hit me that that there will be no snow in the Minnesota game due to the dome not because of weather. For some reason I was thinking they were at their new place already.  :=)

they might lose but in no way will the bears be a trap game....bears will in all likelihood be a division leader and a challenger to any wild card chances the eagles have.....its going to be a huge game but not a trap game in any definition
Title: Re: Week 15: Eagles at Minnesota - No Snow
Post by: QB Eagles on December 13, 2013, 10:07:40 PM
Yeah if you've seen the Bears totally dismantle your rival for the division lead, and you know your game got flexed to the NBC game of the week slot, I don't see how you don't take that game 100% seriously.

If you believe in such a thing as a trap game (and I'm not sure it really exists except in the emotions of the fan base -- good teams beat really bad teams about 80% of the time no matter when the game falls in the schedule), Minnesota, especially if they are without AP, is the most obvious choice for a trap in the whole 2013 schedule.

I think a trap game would be hard for the offense anyway at least. They gotta be pumped about the prospects for Shady going batshtein crazy the rest of the year. Sean Lee out btw for at least another game or two.

Edit- hopefully it's 3 though. I'd like to see Shady drop a deuce on dallas.

The game against the Bears has the chance to be entirely irrelevant.

Eagles win this game.  Dallas beats Rodgers-less Packers and Washington and the Eagles-Bears game is completely meaningless for the division.

yeah if dallas loses one of the next two -- just saying it's not a de facto huge game since they may not even play the starters depending on what Dallas does.  Obviously I'm hoping they have a chance to clinch next sunday.

it will be unrealistic to think a 10-6 eagles team will get a wild card but it will be possible, so the game wont be meaningless

of course it will be for the division. the cowboys are a disaster and will lose 1 of the next 2 if not both.

Lol, some philly fan got the juju mojo going against opposing running backs. Reggie Bush slips in the snow pre-game and is out for the Lions, Ellington out for the Cards, Murray missed Philly in Oct, Andre Brown and who ever else for NYG and now both AD and Gerhart (and I'm sure there's more from other games).

Be very afraid, Matt Forte.

The Vikings horn is the most horrible thing in the NFL.  They play it after every 1st down and after every big defensive play/3rd down stop.  They also have one of the worst fight songs in sports and they play it after field goals.  Busch League.

Foles' block wasn't even necessary. Bigger problem is the dumb playcall on 3rd down. If it's 4 down territory, on 3rd and 1 you farg the shotgun and run out of a running formation.

If they come back out and take care of business, they'll still win this game.

Of course, with the way the defense looked in the first half, that's rather questionable.

So many poor decisions in about 30 seconds of game time:

3rd and 1: stretch Shady outside.
Don't ask for a measurement or challenge, just line up and run another play.
Challenge a play where the ball is never visible.

If Chip was in 4 down territory (which he clearly was before 3rd down), that just makes the play call on 3rd down even worse.

Vikings starting field position off of KRs.

MIN 25
MIN 38
MIN 25
MIN 34
MIN 46

Average starting position MIN 33.6. Patterson's average is MIN 33.3. Pretty much a wash there. Of all the things to complain about in this game, I think this one is overrated.
Title: Re: Week 15: Eagles at Minnesota - No Snow
Post by: Eagles_Legendz on December 15, 2013, 04:42:54 PM
Foles was average today but the offense was moving in the second half.  Cut it to 5 with a quarter + left and the Vikings had 3rd and 14.  They get that stop and I think they win.  But the defense caved like they did repeatedly all game.

Offense could've done more, obviously, but if the defense even gives half the performance they should be capable of bringing against those scrubs the eagles win.

well no argument there, but you could feel the eagles were about to score some points in that game.  they were moving the ball and not scoring, reminiscent of the andy teams in recent years.  one or two stops after they scored those two TDs and things are different.  just fugly all the way around.

biggest issue with foles today was how long he held the ball on some plays.  the 2nd down play to start the second half was particularly egregious.  dude can't hold the ball like he's vick out there.  2nd and 4, and outside of the pocket, just toss the ball away.  instead it's 3rd and 16.  it cost them twice.  first on that drive, and next on the drive after the vikings scored to start the 4th when they had 3rd and 2 around midfield and he took a sack instead of a manageable 4th down by tossing the ball away.  sometimes you need to cut your losses and get rid of it and he took too many negative plays today by holding the ball.

He was holding on forever, I think he was a lot more unclear about who was open when trying to read the zone coverage. Gotta hit that hard in practice this week or the blueprint is out there for the Bears and Cowboys. On top of that though, he was just way off today. Some days QBs have it, some days they don't. This team is not playoff worthy.  They're in the worst division in football so "if" they get in we can chalk it up to another Dallas collapse.  I don't see that happening.  just an absolute embarassment today.  Only positive is Shady should be fresh as can be for Chicago next week.

lets save the overreactions.  today was awful but it's not like dallas deserves the division any more than the eagles do.

(also, splitting hairs but since people keep saying it, the AFC South is worse than the NFC East.  the East is only second worst, so, ha).

I'm still happy with Foles moving forward. Even if they miss the playoffs they played higher than any of our expectations. They played a bad game... It happens after you win 5 straight.

Depends how the QB class shakes out. If there's a great athlete at QB that Chip likes and is realistic for the Eagles pick/within a reasonable tradeup, it's definitely possible. However, I don't think they'll make QB a top priority or reach on somebody.

i agree with this....foles allows you not to have to reach for a qb....but if a guy that chipper likes is there in round 1 he will take a qb...hes smart enough to know that nick is not the answer

it also doesn't make you "bad" when you're 8-6.  the eagles team has tons of flaws but has done better than almost anyone thought they'd do this year.  no one thinks they're winning the SB.  i'm not in the mood to be defending this team after laying an egg, again, against a zesty minnesota team though.  the point is, it's in their hands still.  if they win the last two games they deserve to be in the playoffs and they'll get in.  if they don't win those games then they don't deserve it and they won't make it.  pretty simple at this point.

Foles had such a shtein game, throwing a 62.5% completion, 428 yard, 3 TD terrible game. Boo that man.

This was some Andy playcalling. Your QB is struggling, forget about your great RB and make your QB throw his way out of it.

Can't pin this on Foles.  Davis forgeting to to remove his skirt, Matt farging Cassell looking like Joe Montans, the fear of Patterson, a dude from Utah who will probably never score again scoring 3 TD's (although they held the dude to 50 yards on 30 carries) Chipper and his senior moment forgetting he has the best running back in the game were the problems.

Saint Favre had more than a few zesty games. Had him for my fantasy QB once, he drove me nuts.

Agree that Foles is not a long term solution for Chip's gameplan, but he's better than any option out there that wouldn't involve a 1st or 2nd round pick to get.

That's what drove me crazy, Cassell coming right out to start the game looking like Montana. How many straight completions did he get? 10 maybe? Whatever, it was a bad omen not just because they were all complete but the receivers were wide open, defenders not in the same area code.

OK, so it was a trap game but maybe it was a good loss.

I didn't get to watch the game but from reading around the web it seems that the offenses numbers are misleading. They had too many blown red zone opportunities. But still, that can't be why they lost. If friggen' Minny can rip the Eagles D like they did then what the hell will Chicago and Jay Cutler do? It's not going to be pretty. The minute you think the defense is playing decent they lay an egg.

I'm still on the Foles bandwagon. The guy hasn't even played a full season's worth of games yet. I feel the Eagles will draft a qb with there being so much talent this year, but the more they win the farther they fall and the less their chances of getting that franchise qb, so igor and people like him better be ready for a lot of Foles next year.
Title: Re: Week 15: Eagles at Minnesota - No Snow
Post by: Sgt PSN on December 16, 2013, 11:21:58 AM
I didn't see the defense doing much scheme-wise that they haven't been doing the last 8 weeks. Players just weren't executing as much as they had been. Front 4 wasn't getting as much pressure, corners were playing soft coverage and no one was wrapping up.

Chip definitely outsmarted himself with kick offs. I know they gave up 2 return tds last week but you can pretty much dismiss anything that happens in weather like that.  ST players get paid too. Gotta let them try and earn their paychecks.  If I played on ST, the message my coach just sent me is that he thinks we're completely useless.

After the Eagles scored 2 quick tds in the 3rd, there was no reason at that point to exclude Shady. I kind of get it if they're down 3 scores, but at that point you need to get back to doing what you do and get the leading rusher in the league a few more touches.

So Chris Polk scores a fluke td and now he's taking snaps from Shady during the game?  There's a reason he wasn't getting much run all year.  He's not very good and shouldn't get meaningful snaps.

2 things I never thought I'd see:

1. A no huddle offense take a delay of game.
2. An offense use a TO before a 2pt conversion.  99.9% of the time the d might take one after seeing the offense line up. Chip not only wasted a TO with that, but he might have saved Minn one as well.

The challenge was possible the worst challenge I've ever seen. The 3rd and 4th down play calls were also terrible.  Remember last week when Foles got under center and handed the ball to Shady and then Shady ran really far with the football and was watching himself run on the jumbotron?  Good times.

All in all, it was a pretty bad all around effort. Foles had a good day if you only look at the box score, but he left quite a few plays on the field. But I'm not looking as it as a disastrous performance nor do I feel any differently about him today than I did 2 days ago.  He's still my guy for 2014.

Said that to myself during the game, what, all of a sudden Chris Polk is a great 3rd down back? There was maybe 3 or 4 drives in a row he came in on 3rd down.

His drop on that dumpoff made me laugh. It wasn't going anywhere, but he looked uncomfortable as possible catching a football.

I can't get on the challenge because if you have eyes all of shady's upper body got across the first down line and they marked him a full yard back.  100% chance that was a first down.  The problem is referees never overturn that call.  Ever.  They just say they can't see the ball so they don't change the result despite any common sense indicating the ball is over the line.  It's like a hockey review where they can't see the puck but there is almost no physical way it's not entirely across the line but doesn't get ruled a goal.

It would be fun if the Eagles made the playoffs this year, because I didn't expect it. But you guys realize this team is still not all that good, right? They've improved in a number of areas, and Vick isn't starting, which is great. But it's not like I ever watch them and don't expect the duct tape to fall off at some point. The biggest problem is that secondary. There's only so much they can do to mask that problem. If they win the next couple of games, they'll have accomplished something. After that, let the chips fall where they may.

This.  They are not that good.  Shady is a beast, Pimp is playing great, like the progress Foles has made, O Line is playing better but the defensive secondary is an abomination.  That bunch isn't going to improve any time soon.
