I hope Cindys head gets separated from his neck tonight.
I'm not feeling so great about this season..I think last year was more of lightning in a bottle than anything else, and watching them struggle to even make the playoffs is going to make that awful goal by Kane even worse..
i'm a little distracted with baseball and all but yeah, i'm a little concerned, go flyers !
if they had a goalie and these three things happen they could easily win the stanley cup this year
1. timmonen and pronger dont get really old this season
2. giroux becomes elite
3. zherdev scores 35-45 goals because giroux is elite
of course barring a miracle deadline deal the 'if they had a goalie' part is not going to change but i like their skaters quite a bit
I'm interested to see if Ville Leino can do anything close to what he did in the playoffs over a whole season. If he can put everything together he could put up some real nice numbers.
Bob the goalie starting tonight and Pronger is out
what on gods earth is going on with engbloms hair
thank god carter is on the wing
and is farging versus gonna say "well that's the first ____ in the new building" every 2 seconds?
great start of the game. Flyers came out strong
im assuming some of it nerves but good god is bob all over the place...he needs to just settle down and square up on the shooter/puck
thats awesome...open concourses in an arena....but they need to stop referring to it as a barn
Impressive start for Bob, damn that was almost a 2 on 1 when the horn sounded.
yeah hes really settled down.....man is he incredibly quick from post to post
Wow Bobrovsky is amazing
FFTW
jody shelly worst FA signing ever?
i would farging murder bettman...could that ghoul possibly want pittsburgh to score anymore
what a farging goal
Couldn't ask for a better start
farg you Cindy.
Nice start! :yay
farg them and their new building. BOBS doesnt care
well now, that was a nice start.
The ESPN headline is "Crosby, Pens Fall"....
I'm sorry... Which team won the Eastern Conference last year? farging fargers.
first goal and win in their new place...i'll farging take it.

leighton is having surgery. expected to be out 6-8weeks.
go bob !
Bob-Leighton 1-2 will be nice depth this year
Only saw parts of the game in the casino, but bob looked awesome. Or, at least quick.
Bob.
that's farged up bob. 2-2.
carter 2nd goal. 3-2
(http://cdn.nhl.com/flyers/images/upload/2010/10/BannerRaised.jpg)
i cant look at that without seeing that stupid puck going under leightons pad
i still have a hard time knowing that the guy who ultimately beat them should have been a flyer if a coin bounced the farg differently.
yeah that too
Flyers move start time for Saturday's game to 6PM to accommodate Game 1 of the NLCS
Zherdev gets his first Flyers goal
Watching Giroux stick handle and make moves towards the net is jizzworthy

i guess i dont know anything about versus but why are they so bad....i only ever watch flyer games on it but their broadcasts seem uneventful to me...not much really good or bad i could say about them except that for being such a podunk network their hd picture is excellent

Richards had quite a few shots in there about the Pens.
Part of that is whiney, but i love him calling out Cooke for ducking him and saying "well if crosby fights carcillo maybe i'll fight him"
matt walker out 10 weeks and no one cares
He's actually helping the team by not eating up salary cap.
some BOBS stuff
QuoteBobrovsky adjusting on and off the ice
D150_tiny by Teemu H on Oct 15, 2010 9:58 AM EDT in Reports From Europe
Sergei Bobrovsky shares his first impressions of life in the NHL, on and off the ice. Even if facing a few problems, adjusting to new life has gone pretty smoothly for the young Russian.
So far he's been living alone because of visa issues.
"I'm living alone, waiting for my girlfriend. There are some problems with the American embassy. It's not so easy to get a visa in the US."
"My parents and sister will come to visit me after New Year."
Bobrovsky doesn't feel that the langauge barrier has been a big problem so far.
"I wouldn't say that I'm experiencing big problems because I don't understand the language. I understand what they want from me, but it's hard to speak."
"The whole team is a bunch of good guys and the atmosphere in general is terrific. I don't feel uncomfortable in this team for not speaking the same language."
"I came to camp three weeks earlier and I was given a tutor in English. I worked with the tutor almost every day."
"Now the games have started and I have almost no free time at all, so I'm starting to pick up the language on my own. Everyone speaks English everywhere I go."
It does help to have some Russian speakers on the team.
"Well, of course I talk more with Nikolay Zherdev because he's the only one I can discuss anything. There's also the Latvian Oskars Bartulis who speaks Russian."
"I can only use a couple of phrases with the rest of the guys, like 'Hi, how are you?' and 'Good, thanks!'."
Bobrovsky says he hasn't seen much of Philadelphia yet, but he likes what he has seen so far.
"I live in a hotel not far from where we train in Voorhees. So I haven't seen all the sights yet. But in general, about Philadelphia, you can say that this is a magnificent city. There's a lot of architecture, beautiful buildings, I put one in my mask. The arena is also great."
Bobrovsky also included the Kuznetsk fortress in his mask. But it wasn't easy to decide what to put in the mask in the first place.
"My dad helped with that", Bobrovsky admits. "I had to think about it for a long time, I'm not even sure how long it took to decide. Then, when I was asked, I said that I wanted this landmark of my hometown in there."
Bobrovsky says it didn't come as a surprise to him that he would get the start in the Flyers season opener.
"I was prepared for the season with the Flyers and I was ready to play. It didn't surprise me when I heard that I would play. Though maybe it was a surprise for many fans."
As Bobrovsky has said before, his NHL debut felt like any other game.
"I didn't feel anything new before the game. There was no time to waste on admiring the scenes or the organization. After the game, of course, I was very happy. I was glad that the team won and I played a pretty good game."
Bobrovsky received congratulations from a lot of people after the game.
"Honestly, there were so many I don't remember. But it was very nice."
Bobrovsky says he hasn't been homesick. He hasn't had time for that.
"Honestly, I don't have time to be bored. It's a completely different life here and I've jumped right into it."
This report was based off of a Russian-language story released by the Metallurg Novokuznetsk.
QuoteBobrovsky gaining a foothold
D150_tiny by Teemu H on Oct 19, 2010 7:52 AM EDT in Reports From Europe
Sergei Bobrovsky is settling in on the Flyers and the NHL better and better each day. He calls the way the Flyers found him an "accident", talks about the endless amount of nicknames he gets, what's on the menu this week, what he thinks of fighting in hockey and why he's not the next Ron Hextall and takes a wild guess on who the Flyers fans hate the most.
He also has big goals set for this season and isn't worried about his durability.
He says he was playing in the junior playoffs last spring, when the Flyers approached him.
"It was at the end of the season. I was playing for the Metallurg junior team in the MHL playoffs. I was approached by a Flyers scout. He explained to me that the club is interested in me."
"I thought about it for a while. The NHL has always been my goal. Then I just decided that I would give it a try."
It wasn't all that simple.
"No, of course not! I was surprised the scout had any interest in me. We hadn't even spoken on the phone before."
"The whole meeting was an accident. I was in Moscow, but missed the game that day. We had lost the previous game where I got pulled."
Star-divide
Off ice adjustments
Bobrovsky says he doesn't have much free time to look around the city.
"I live in a hotel, five minutes from the Flyers training rink. I don't have time to walk around the city. After games, I rest, sleep. Then do some exercise and rest again, eat in the evening and go back to sleep."
But next game won't be until Thursday against the Ducks, so the players have more time to break the routines this week. Bobrovsky also has some plans.
"Now we have four days without a game. I go out somewhere with Zherdev and Bartulis. Well, the guys on the team who speak Russian."
"I already do know some places here. I found two restaurants."
But not Russian ones.
"Nope. One Brazilian and the other has some even more exotic cuisine. But good food."
"This is basically my first time in the US. I first came here in July for the rookie camp. And now I'm just learning everything."
Despite a lot of adjusting to do, Bobrovsky says nothing has really surprised him so far.
"Nothing. I came here only thinking about hockey and I don't pay attention to details of everyday life. I spent all summer preparing myself mentally for this and preparing for it to be hard and I felt I was ready for it."
"It's a completely different life in America. Different rules and laws."
"I spent my whole life playing Novokuznetsk. I used to walk to the rink from home. I knew everyone, everyone knew me."
No more walking. It's time to buy a car.
"I already talked about this with my agent. I'll buy one this week. You can't do anything without a car in America."
Bobrovsky says he's also making progress with his English.
"I was given a teacher. When I came to Philadelphia in the summer, I had a lot of free time to do something every day. The teacher doesn't speak any Russian. She wrote these lists and if I didn't know some words we just googled them on the internet. It helps the grammar, but the emphasis was on spoken language."
Bobrovsky says he's starting to understand the coaches.
"I actually understand it all. But for me to speak, that's harder."
Bobrovsky says he couldn't get lost in the city, but that's not because of his linguistic skills...
"No problem! I always carry the business card of my hotel in my pocket. [laughs]"
Nicknames
The media interest towards the players is bigger on the Flyers than it was on Metallurg, but Bobrovsky doesn't mind the attention.
"I don't get hung up on it. I'm fine if the media finds me interesting. If they don't, it doesn't matter. I don't find it annoying to talk with the press. I understand that it can help you to build your career. It's a form of advertising."
Bobrovsky has always been the man with a thousand nicknames. Metallurg fans called him Bobyor ("Beaver" in English) and Flyers fans and media have already come up with a bunch of other names. Bobrovsky is a little amused by all the names and doesn't mind what people call him. "Bobs" reading in his goalie gear makes him smile.
"I don't mind what people call me. I have Bobs written everywhere in my equipment, including the mask."
"When I came here I was asked: 'What's your nickname?' and I told them: 'Bob!'."
So Bob wasn't given to him by someone on the Flyers.
"No, it was me. I was called that on Metallurg."
In addition to "Bobs", there's all kinds of other stuff painted in Bobrovsky's mask. He says he wanted the Flyers theme in there with the fighters.
"On the other side, there's a Russian fighter flying over the Kremlin. I really love Russia and want to show it to the world. Everyone recognizes the Kremlin and knows it's in Russia. There's also the Kuznetsk fortress representing my hometown."
"On the other side, there's an American fighter. It's all because the team is called the Flyers. There's also the bell and a local building on that side."
Rivalries and history
The season is only a few games old and the Flyers and Bobrovsky have already faced the Penguins twice. Bobrovsky doesn't have to think for long who is the most hated player around.
"Crosby?"
Bobrovsky doesn't mind the goon image that was stamped on the Flyers a long time ago and still seems to stick around.
"Fighting is a part of hockey. It provides a pshychological advantage when your player beats his opponent in a fight. It energizes your team."
"And it looks spectacular."
"Of course I was aware that the Flyers were known for physical game. But last season when they changed the coach the team started playing more."
Bobrovsky has heard of Ron Hextall, too.
"Yes, of course. A famous goalie. The crowd loved him because he fought sometimes."
We might not see Bobrovsky doing that.
"It's too much. Why should I fight? I need to stop the puck."
"I've been studying the Flyers history in general. There are many great moments there!"
Bobrovsky hasn't met Bobby Clarke yet.
"Not yet. But I talked with Ed Snider, who brought the NHL to Philadelphia in 1967, And they won two Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975."
On ice adjustments
So far Bobrovsky has been able to make his transition pretty smoothly. Switching from the KHL to NHL doesn't look a like huge leap. Is it?
"You could say that. I played on a weak team, so I had a lot of game practice. Every team was stronger than us. There were tons of shots on my goal. And I'm a fast learner."
"Coming here, the biggest difference is the size of the rink. The goal is very close to the corners. So it's necessary to change your style of play."
"But it is for the better. I like the smaller rink the best. You're always involved in the game."
Bobrovsky isn't used to playing a season with 82 games in the schedule, but isn't worried about his own durability or the fact that there's a lot more shooting in the NHL.
"I don't play all the 82 games. I'd be fine with even half of them. We have a great gym here. It's all about work, nothing complicated."
"It's the same thing on the ice. I'm not there to dodge the shots. I'm there to catch them. It's my duty."
Despite being a good skater, Bobrovsky says he never wanted to be a forward.
"I always wanted to be a goalie as a kid. When I went to school I played a couple of months as a defenseman. And then I went in goal."
"I looked up to Vadim Tarasov who returned to Metallurg for that season. I watched a lot of his games, and picked up some things from him. I didn't have much goalie coaching."
Goals
Bobrovsky says his goals for this season are simple but big.
"I really want to gain a foothold in Philadelphia. And help the Flyers get to the playoffs. It's even possible to get to the Stanley Cup finals. I have very big goals."
Even the Calder Trophy could be a possibility.
"It's secondary. I'd rather help the team."
Bobrovsky was mentally prepared to play the season in the AHL and knows that it's still a strong possibility even if he tries not to think about it. He is on a two-way contract.
"Yes. If the coaches aren't happy with my game, it's not excluded that they can send me to the Phantoms. But I don't think about that scenario. I got a chance. And I have to hold onto it the best I can. The competition is huge. We all have to work hard."
"Although when I came here, I prepared myself mentally to the fact that I can end up in the AHL."
The rhythm in the NHL is demanding, but Bobrovsky says it doesn't feel too overwhelming.
"I'm not complaining. Last game was a while ago now, so I have time to recover. Eat well and sleep. Normally you still feel it the next day."
Bobrovsky says he has already started scouting other players in the league.
"In principle, yes. I remember who they are and what to expect from them. Though I have no time to watch other games."
"There's still so much to be learned about this league."
The Penguins have the most experience from Bobrovsky by now and Evgeny Malkin admits he didn't know much about his countryman before these two games.
"I knew pretty much nothing about this guy. Just that he had played well for Metallurg. I've seen him two times in my life now, two games in the last ten days."
Malkin offered a few compliments for the rookie.
"He looks calm and confident. Not every young goalie can do it in the NHL."
This report was based off of a Russian-language story in the publication Sovietsky Sport.
I'm just going to assume everything he says is actually "I must break you" and "If he dies, he dies"
those fake advertisments on the glass behind the goals during hockey games are so awful
anaheim just scored with a couple minutes left to get their first road win of the year
Hey, remember when you guys let Patrick Kane score a goal and crush our hopes... farg you again.
regulation loss to Columbus. weak
[Ed]3-2 win in Pittsburgh. Giroux had 2 goals[/Ed]
Shelly is worthless
Flyers fans are gonna love him
Really good effort by the whole team outside of the mind-numbing strIng of retarded penalties. 4th line contributed a goal. Scored shorthanded and on the PP. Bob looked good, really good actually. Nice game. farg the Pens.
based on that start he should be the starter for the rest of the season.
won't happen that way but it should.
ps: string.
Nice to see Richards back up his talk (and bitching) and fight cooke

i still cant get over how bad this signing was...an ancient fighter who cant fight to a three year deal....luckily the money is minimal but god if i never see him in the league again it will be too soon
Fun game to watch tonight
Score?
6-1 Flyers
Pronger had 2 goals
Carter had 2
Carcillo got in two fights, the first one was probably the best fight of the season. Nodl continues to impress...though he left in the 3rd with an injury.
that fight was the best flyer fight in years

Konopka is a big dude. Briere is meeting with the NHL at 10am about his cheapshot at the end of the game.
was at the game Saturday, farging awesome game brah.
few things:
was the mazeros boarding call really that bad? they only showed one replay and I thought the refs were calling result more than actual penalty.
Carcillo fight was great
left with about 5 minutes to go in the 3rd so it sounds like i missed some good shtein...what did Briere do?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssg5VJjWPNQ&feature=player_embedded
I think the Mezaros was just bad luck more than anything, and they def called the result which is bullshtein
3 Games for Briere
crock of shtein
hah, great goal by Hartnell
flyers are looking gooooooood.....if bob the goalie is the real deal and doesnt hit a wall later in the year and they can start getting goals from zherdev we could have a stanley cup on broad street next spring
giroux was absolutely sick last night
I like Bob, don't get me wrong, but he's been awfully lucky this year. He loses sight of the puck too easily. He's raw and young and has a great D in front of him so for that I'm excited. It's great to see a lot of the guys who were hot in the finals (Giroux, Briere, Hartnell) start the season the same way. Giroux is on another level right now. I hate to go igy on JVR but he looks like he's taken a step back in development.
i missed the bout every knew was going to happen
so how bad did the boogie beat up shelly
Sick pass by Giroux. Missed the first period so I can't help with the fight. If Shelley didn't die and have his cap hit removed simultaneously, it was a loss for the Flyers.

Boogard dominated him, basically looked like a grown up smacking a kid around. Shelly got pissy after he took his beating. I'd say it was 9 to 1 in shots in favor of Boogard. Shelly reminds me of Fedoruk or Cote, definitely not in the heavyweight class.
Anyone going to the Spectrum Saturday morning? $25 gets you access to the building, from there if you can carry it out it's yours. All the seats are in the middle of the floor and ready for taking.
shelley used to be a legit heavyweight....now hes just old and broken down...
oh and this team is LEGIT
i wanna go tomorrow but im scared to drive all the way up and not get a chair...and thats all i really want
grab me a chair or two and ill pay your entry fee?
same for me...$50 if anyone can grab me two seats...i can pay you on sunday at the game.
matty just so you know these arent real stadium seats like my vet seats
they are the folding chairs that sat courtside and i dont belive they even say spectrum on them or anything...just plain folding chairs with the spectrum red color
oh for real?? never mind then.
have a feeling that place will be out within like 5 minutes anyway.
JVR a healthy scratch tonight. (http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/inqflyersreport/JVR_scratched_Bobrovsky_starting_Sat.html) 'Bob' making his 6th straight start.

and man am i glad i didnt go now...how ghetto does that look
It's like a 35-40 year old arena, what did you expect it to look like? LOL @ the dude with the soft pretzel machine. The shot clock in a nice grab though. I wonder how much of that stuff is already up on ebay.
im not talking about the arena...im talking about the scum pulling stuff out of it
i mean i keep it gully but that is just beyond even me
I wouldn't of minded some seats, the shot clock, a rim, or the boards. Couldn't make it this morning unfortunately.
Was that a rim wedged between those boards? That would be so cool. The boards alone are awesome.
What/when was the last basketball game played there?

yeah id take a pair of seats but ill buy them online before i go thru all that
I'm wondering if there's anything left, because I might have a hook up to get in there for as long as I want. I have a flat bed truck too.
Pretzel warmer?
Was it $25 gets you in and snag what you ever you want or is it $25 an item?
reemer benched for tonite which apparently means the gawds wingers will be wellwood and nodl

Who was he with before? Was it him, Briere, and Carter?

how do you even come close to hitting the button on that...he stopped the puck like two feet in front of the goal line
anyone just hear clement
"sergei bobrovsky might have the quickest reflexes of any goalie thats ever played the game"
I somehow missed that
I've said it before but it bears repeating, Bob's been lucky this year...and I'm not just talking about tonight. I think he has the skill to be a good goalie but a lot of things have gone his way.
i dont think ive seen him make a leg pad or a glove save this year...i dont know if its because of his lateral quickness that allowed him to always be square to the shooter and thus take the puck in his body but it seems like everything ends up in his chest or stomach and just sticks there
lol...right after i post that he makes two insane kick saves...and holy shtein thats exactly what clement was talking about...they were such quick saves that i had to rewind my dvr to see them
And the goal tonight was just a sick shot...how the dude put it right to that spot is mind boggling.
wellwood richards nodl = the gawd line
how did wellwood farging miss that net
huge game tomorrow and on the 20th at the caps...i wanna see bob against an offense like that...its hard to ever say theres a statement game in the nhl regular season but these two games will be as close as you can get
I'm going to that Caps game tomorrow. Let's go Bob.

grabbing a pair of the seats for christmas. thank you self.
Pelle Lindbergh. 25 years ago today. Still feels like yesterday.
Flyers are pretty good
Holy shtein this team is playing awesome right now.
Is this team for real? BOB is really better than i hoped for. Hartnell is back to the player he was before last year, and Giroux is a wizard with the puck. Defensively if they had that back 6 they win the cup. Mezaros and O'donnell really help this team out. Nice start so far and nice to get points this early in the season, but its still mid November.
Leino has been great too. The Briere/Leino/Hartnell line is awesome.
Know what the big difference is? The coach. This team took off once Laviolette took over.

Thankee
That's tight
Carter just signed an 11-year, $58M deal
awesome
In terms of length of contract it's horrendus, but that pans out to roughly $5 million per year which is very fair for a player of his caliber.
He'll have even more money to blow on skanks at the Jersey shore.
The amount of puck handling skill they Flyers have between Giroux, Lieno, and Zherdev is almost unfair.
lol 5-0
I don't want to get all homer-ish on this team, but they really look legit right now. They're three lines deep with talent and (dare I say it) grit. If Bob looks like this at mid-season I might be sporting permawood.
Keep in mind they'll be getting Leighton back soon to give Bob some rest and keep his legs fresh for the 2nd half
rjs opens mouth. Bob allows goal. This cat may not get a SO all season.
It was a pretty obvious high stick that woulda been reviewed if the game were any closer.
Bob seems like the guy they've been missing for years. Its early, but he's as consistent as a goalie they've had for a long while. But RJS is right, he very well might never get a SO just by bad luck
And Giroux is just great to watch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOehpgKMn_c
that was a fun game to watch last night. giroux is insane. and great signing of carter too. the length is a bit worrisome but the cap hit is minimal so it's moot.
The only relevant F/A they have to worry about beyond this season is Leino, they have some cap space and could easily clear some more with a few tweaks. NOW would be a good time to restock their prospects.
By trading Cliff Lee?
it took most of the game to convince him but i finally talked sunny last night into agreeing with me that the flyers are right now the best team in all of professional sports

There is no dominant team in the NFL, and the MLB champs are decidedly unexciting. But the Lakers are defending two-time champs and have started out hot for the most part. I don't think that you can rank the Flyers above them.
that was my exact farging point.

Well, the Suns just had the best 3-point shooting night in franchise history, so the Lakers are officially on a cold streak. But seriously, the answer is the Lakers. I'll give the Flyers #2, but even then only because I'm not really following hockey outside of the Flyers' little bubble.
yeah, futbol don't count kid
Is that the best you guys can do? I thought for sure that would open a floodgate of disparaging soccer hate. Slackers.
i would rather not ruin the Flyers thread by talking about how neat Wayne Rooney is

so the lakers are on a cold streak but are better than the flyers who are on a hot streak?
I'll take 2 championships in a row over 2 early regular season losses in a row, so yes.
that has nothing to do with what we are talking about but so would i
first awful goal by bob since his first couple starts
god scores 2 in a row.....5-1
18-4 their last three games
They're not 3-0? ??? :deion :=)
i laughed but consider the source.
next three games their oponents are a combined 34-9-2....two of three would solidify this team as easily the stanley cup favorite right now...3-0 would be like just give them the trophy
Too bad the playoffs don't start next week...
The Flyers are even on the moneyline tonight against Montreal. I found that interesting.

No idea. Boneheaded move.
What's the record for most goals scored in a first period? Because I think it's about to go down.
i didn't see the first two Tampa goals, but it's hard to blame him for the 5-3, that last one was a bad one though
hes given up two horrible goals...and this makes the third straight game with a really bad goal...i didnt think he should have started against montreal...starting him tonight was just assinine
this game is retarded
seven goals in less than half a game
jody shelly even gets on the board
holy shtein i cant even complete a post without a goal being scored
lolol thats great...crowd chanting de-fence de-fence
8-7 Tampa
reemer is worse than i even thought...send his stank ass to glens falls
omg....what an ending....what a game
Are the Flyers still the best team in professional sports?
nope....laviolette and bob took care of that real quick
how often can you ever say that a philly team is the best in all of sports tho...so it was pretty damn cool the short time it lasted
Most recently, the Phillies were just that heading into the playoffs and through the first round.
disagree....anyone who had watched the phillies knew there was multiple teams better than them...their offense sucked this year
if bob is the real deal the flyers have it all
the phils going into the playoffs were the hottest but not the best...flyers a few days ago were the hottest and the best
nothing the nhl is the best
They flashed a stat during the Habs game where the Flyers record last year at that point was very similar to what it is this season. Things all went to shtein in a hurry. I don't think they'll fall as hard as they did last season primarily because of Lav.
injuries also hurt them last year
im probably taking nhl reg season games to seriously but now laviolette has boucher....a goalie that wont even be on the team in a few weeks starting in a game btwn the two best teams in the conference...i just dont get his goalie decisions
if they don't score on this its good night good hockey
the worst part of it is now the refs feel obligated to give the caps the next man ad and they will score
reemer is suck a bitch...getting worked in front of the net and doesnt even attempt to respond just keeps taking it
that was a great goal...hartnells pass was so good and the quickness with which richards brought the puck from skate to stick was amazing
how worthless is zherdev....it looks like hes been essentially benched or at the very least dropped down for reemer
who are you talking to?
yo mama
farg YEAH CARTS!!
who are you picking tomorrow in survival
no comment
hard to say whats worse here the refereeing or boucher
What the hell is going on in this game? fargers.
the call on richards was just atrocious but the last two goals boucher has been horrible...he just sits there on his knees and doesnt move hoping the puck will hit him...bobs ability to laterally move and gobble up picks definitely saves both those goals
HOLLA!
That shot by Nodl was absolutely ridiculous.
yup...nice feed by reemer too
to be fair theres no way neuvirth should let that get thru tho
Really nice sequence there with Briere getting his stick in someone's face and Boucher standing his ground while the puck sails right by him.
Boucher is really bad.

Sorry Just, didn't want to bother you with updates. Just saw the score. I'm assuming you guys are talking about this:
QuoteThe Flyers could've won the game in overtime, but Mike Richards' apparent goal -- a slapshot past Miikka Kiprusoff -- was waved off because of an unsportsmanlike conduct call against defenseman Chris Pronger. Officials ruled that Pronger obstructed Kiprusoff's view with his glove.
I hope the booing was as vicious as it was on Sunday night at the Linc.
the booing was off the charts, it was great
i've seen the replay several times and pronger didn't come close to interfering with kiprusoff.
whatever, though. pretty standard for the nhl, actually.

yup.
should've never gotten to OT. They had a 4-1 lead in the 3rd and blew it all within 5 minutes of game time, then unbelievable bad luck on that final shot. 0:00.00 with the puck hovering over the line...
What a pathetic rule. NHL has got to change that rule. Do it like basketball, if the shot leaves the shooters hand with time left on the clock and the ball goes in, it counts. Once the puck is struck by the stick it's live if there is still time on the clock. :boom
All my coworkers are huge Sharks fans so double :boom :boom
they need to work with bob big time...i realize hes not a huge guy and hes a butterfly goalie but he needs to stop going down on every shot...so many times he just flops to his knees and tries to catch the puck...he needs to play more angles and positional goaltending....hes still playing like hes in europe
and they need to have a face off skate a round where they do nothing else...it killed them last night and was embarrassing....a one time set play in front of the net for a goal off a face off...are you kidding me?

Penguins-Flyers rivalry has more on line
Tuesday, December 14, 2010
By Shelly Anderson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
No studies have been done, but it's a solid guess that when it comes to the Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers, the mere mention of a game between the teams would be enough to produce dilated pupils and dancing pulses.
Tonight, in a rivalry that has long been full of blood and guts, glory also will be on the line in the clash of the cross-state rivals at Wells Fargo Center. First place in the overall NHL standings is at stake.
The Penguins hold the top spot with 44 points; the Flyers are second with 43 points. Both clubs are on hot streaks.
"It's hard to think that you can add to [the level of the rivalry]. It's always intense, no matter what," Penguins center Sidney Crosby said after practice at Southpointe before the team flew to Philadelphia.
"But I guess if there was a way to, it would be now, with the way the teams are playing. The rivalry's already there. ... There's a little more with the teams being so close. Both have a lot of pride. It's been a while. I'm sure both teams want to show what they've improved on and where they're at."
The teams met three times in the first 22 days of the season, with the Flyers winning twice and the road team prevailing each time.
Each club was 5-4-1 after their third meeting, but look at them now.
The Penguins have won 12 games in a row and with a win tonight would set a club record with their eighth road win in a row.
With at least one point, Crosby would match his career best with a 19-game scoring streak. Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury could extend his career-best winning streak to 12 starts.
The Flyers aren't quite that hot -- they are 7-3-1 in their past 11 games -- but they have been more steady through the season.
Only three of the Penguins' opponents during their winning streak -- Vancouver, New York Rangers and Atlanta -- are above the playoff line. Philadelphia is way above that line.
"It's an old cliche, but it's a measuring-stick game," Penguins winger Pascal Dupuis said. "They're playing some good hockey. We showed with our little streak we've got going here that we've played some good hockey as well.
"It's one of those games where it's going to be easy to get revved up, to get emotional -- not too much, but you can bring the passion to the game. That's the kind of game you like to play."
The Penguins and Flyers aren't just good. They also are multidimensional.
Going into Monday's games, Philadelphia had scored the most goals, 105, but also ranked fourth in goals-against average, 2.32.
The Penguins were tied for second with 101 goals and were third in goals-against average, 2.27.
That's about as strong a balance between offense and defense as you'll see.
"When you score goals and you don't give up goals, you're going to win some games," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said.
While the Penguins relied heavily on backup goaltender Brent Johnson early in the season, Fleury has been stellar for weeks.
The Flyers, meanwhile, have been more solid in goal than they have been in years, thanks in large part to the emergence of rookie Sergei Bobrovsky. It appears, though, that Brian Boucher will start tonight, and he's 4-0-1 in his past five starts.
The teams are closely matched in areas other than standings points.
The Penguins and Flyers have identical numbers on the power play -- 21 goals on 130 chances, 16.2 percent. Each team has six short-handed goals, among the most in the NHL, and each has given up three short-handers. Each has a defenseman who, going into Monday's games, was tied for the league lead in plus-minus ratio at plus-18, Andrej Meszaros of Philadelphia and the Penguins' Kris Letang.
The Flyers had blocked the most shots; the Penguins had dished out the second-most hits. They are both among the most penalized.
Only one team has Crosby, who leads the NHL with 51 points and has 26 goals and 60 points in 35 career games against Philadelphia, but the Flyers' line of Scott Hartnell, Danny Briere and Ville Leino has been consistently strong, accounting for 30 goals and 66 points.
And those hard numbers don't take into consideration the flavor of the rivalry.
"Regardless of where both teams are at, this one always adds a little intensity to it, a little different flavor to it," Bylsma said.
"Just the fact that you can look up and see Philly in front of us for most of the season and then us catching them and now being a little bit ahead, I think it adds a little more interest to the story line."
tonight's game is going to be sick.
yeah this is as good as gets for regular season hockey

The NHL is another thing.
After Philadelphia beat blood-rival Pittsburgh on Tuesday, reproters asked Flyers winger Scott Hartnell if he could do what Choice did.
``I thought it was kind of silly," Hartnell said. ``I definitely wouldn't be going over to their (Pittsburgh's) bench asking Sid Crosby for a stick before a game."

QuoteThe Flyers lost in regulation for the first time since being shut out by Boston on Dec. 1, a rare hiccup during a month in which they had secured 15 of a possible 18 points through their previous nine games, streaking to a league-leading 22 wins and 49 points. Philadelphia entered having won seven of eight.

surprisingly chippy game for teams who barely play each other

Watching the replay now on Fox Sports West. Sure sounds like a lot of Flyers fans at Staples!
It sounded like roughly 1/3 of the place was Flyers fans. I've never seen a Flyers game in L.A. Is that typical?

Meh.
I don't see the point in adding a guy like Langenbrunner unless they feel they need another leader around since Pronger is down.
i think it means the end of zherdev...with him not a fit at all for this team the right side needs bolstering and langenbrunner would do that...plus he would be invaluable in the playoffs...provided they dont over pay i like the move
3rd and a 5th is the rumored offer. NJ wont do it. I really would like to move Zherdev to an Westcoast team, not the Devils. Flyers will move Zherdev, i cant see them keeping him around at all.
nice little fluff piece on Boosh (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/563343-philadelphia-flyers-have-the-goalie-theyve-been-looking-for-brian-boucher)
I don't know why they'd get rid of a guy like Zherdev, he's as talented of a goal scorer as they have. Who cares if he lacks a complete game, the Flyers have enough of those guys. It's not like Briere isn't a liability defensively.
he's going to Dallas
i was all for taking a shot on zherdev so that he would provide the offensive firepower and skills that this team doesnt possess but its obvious why he was blackballed to russia from the nhl
its completely unfair to compare briere and zherdev in terms of defense making the right play making people better around you ect....zherdev is totally irresponsible in all ends of the ice not just in his own end is a turnover machine and i dont think hes thrown a hit all year....briere physically is at a huge disadvantage but his effort is there and positonally he is usually where he needs to be...plus hes smart with the puck...briere is certainly no selke candidate but he isnt the dog that zherdev is...say what you want about plus minus but briere is plus 18 and zherdev plus four (with 13 goals)
if you are gonna be the liability that zherdev is you better lead the team in goals and do something big almost every game...instead hes completely invisible most of the time...shtein langenbrunner could do offensively what zherdev has...i mean christ zherdev has two assists the entire year
I was using Briere as an example. The Flyers have enough two way players and a deep enough defense to keep a pure goal scorer on their roster...that was my point.
i agree but id rather have langenbrunner and all he brings than zherdevs horrible all around game....zherdev wouldnt even dress in the playoffs

tha god strikes again....4 unanswered
Really good win tonight. Got down two with a couple of weird goals and then just methodically picked the Sabres apart. I think Giroux might be retarded but I still want to sex his face.
Nice win and all but how do you give up 40 shots to those clowns?
Defense was terrible early on....bob let in those two goals but otherwise palyed very well.
This game was a bore for the first two periods.

I didn't bring it up, they did to keep me in my place.
so fans of one of the worst franchises in the nfl used the eagles losing a playoff game to counteract the fact that their hockey team was losing?

Nice farging move by Zherdev....goddamn
carter may only hit the net once every 10 shots, but shtein when he does it's farging sweet
Briere scores again.
that 3rd was dog shtein until that goal. fluke bounce off the boards for an easy boston goal and almost another zherdev breakaway but it got caught in the linemans skates.
And now fluking the other way...Sean O'Donnell scores
boucher got farging raped on that one.

A couple of them were flukes/unstoppable and the 7th was an empty netter....but there were a few others that Boucher just looked horrible on
I just saw the highlights. What a game. Outcome sucked.
Lol Bob just made a huuuuuuuge mistake then somehow made a save with just his sick....unreal
Thrashers goalie's been ridiculous all night and then gives up a one on one slap shot to Jody Shelly
O'donnell just destroyed Kane.
Kane is mad
nice rebound in the second of a back to back
went to the phantoms game tonight...they got absolutely dominated...had three SOG with five minutes left in the second period...they are a train wreck but its ridiculous how much leighton stands out in that league...hes a man amongst boys
how did shelly score tonight?
Blasted a slap shot from just inside Atlanta's blue line right past the goalie top shelf.
i dont believe you
Ok. He picked it up at his own end line and threw it from one end of the ice to the other ricchocheting off the scoreboard and into the goal.

When it involves needing someone to be the enforcer and put Avery in his place....yes, its a shame he was a scratch.
No.
Gouge Avery's farging eyes out and then piss in the seeping holes.

For a team that ranks in the top 10 for goals against average, it's pretty amazing that they don't have a single shutout this year.

thats what happens when you have an awesome defense and bad goaltending...all it takes is one softie a game to ruin a shutout and thats usually the minimum they give up

the amount of people who will rip the team is miniscule and the fanbase may even contain less haters than the flyers

They could have put that game away last night, instead they wasted scoring opportunities by trying to be fancy and let the Caps get back into the game.

I'll stop bitching once they win a cup. Then they get a 1 year grace period of no complaining and I ease off the criticism for the next 5 years. Did the same thing with the Phillies.
i'm sure that's the extra motivation they need to bring it all home.
We all choose to root for our teams in different ways, being overcritical is my way, especially when a team hasn't won a cup in 35 years.
oh i get that but even though the organization hasn't won a cup in that long doesn't mean you can't enjoy what this current team is doing. but to each his own
Quote from: SunMo on January 19, 2011, 11:18:46 AM
you can't enjoy what this current team is doing
He can enjoy it, except when they pass up a shot on an odd-man rush and instead try to set up a play. I'm going to assume that this situation either infuriates Laviolette or is exactly what he wants them to do and I am further going to assume that he will fix it if it reduces their chances of winning or keep it in place if it's a good thing. But if the Flyers don't win the Cup this year, I am 100% blaming him and hoping that Holmgren gets a new coach to whip them into shape and, more importantly, make them take hurried shots on fast break opportunities. That's the key.
one comment about them passing too much means I'm not enjoying the season? okay.
Briere made the AS game, replacing Iginla
Pronger back in the lineup tonight
without pronger
9-4
45 gf
41 ga
3.11 gaa
The Defensive group from 1-8 is ridiculous. I really like what Walker brought to the table, and if he can come in and spot time for Kimmo/Pronger/Odonnell thru the season its only going to help them come playoff time.

there goes the shutout. again.
For some reason this team always has a few minutes each game where the defense just disappears and the goalies aren't good enough to hold it down on their own.
For "some" reason? You want to blame the coaching?
Lavy doesn't seem like he's the type of guy that "lets" them get away with it.
But either way that message doesn't seem to be getting through at all times. If they played 60 minutes of hockey every night they'd be winning games 5-1 and 4-1 instead of these nailbiters.
Hartnell gives them some insurance, 4-2
...and JVR makes sure there will be no nailbiting in this one. 5-2 :yay

He actually is holding the game 2 puck. He wasn't on the ice for the game 6 puck, he was on the bench when the game ended.
harry careys evidently put a bounty out for 50K for someone to retreive the puck and give it to them..
pronger said if they want to out up the cash, they can have the puck - of course, no word from harrys yet. big Hoydas.
pronger might have better served his team if he concentrated on keeping pucks from going in the net rather than worry about taking them out of it
i didnt actually want to talk about hockey, i wanted to mention how big of a funhole pronger was
Pronger was the best player on any team in the playoffs last season. He can steal the goalies cup in the middle of the game for all I care.
he could have had six pucks in game five because thats how many goals he was on the ice for
He's entitled to one bad game, especially since he was logging 35-40 minutes a game the entire playoffs vs. the other teams number 1 pairings and he's not exactly a finesse player. They were grind it out wear down minutes. His play in front of the net single handedly carried the Flyers to the cup. That won't be a problem this season with the depth they have.
he can have a bad game in february at the rangers...he cant have the worst game of his career in game 5 of the finals tied at 2 games a piece

all accounts ive heard say the only positive thing about those cups are the shorter amount of time it takes to fill..other than that, ive heard nothing but complaints about leakage and spillage, and judging by those pics, i can see why.
i only got one which obviously isnt enough to judge leakage and stuff but i i had none of those problems...my problem with it was psychological...when i was drinking it i was fine...but when i finished it and popped the magnet it wigged me out thinking of the magnet and metal ring sitting in my beer
dude - what is with you lately? watching fruity documentaries, expressing fears about metal in your beer... sack up, homey. for real.
the amount of hair and fecal matter that probably gets sucked up in that thing is great.
i dont get why they cant get a tube to go down in the cup from the top and spew out the beer the same way...something that kinda looks like the thing that stirs milkshakes or makes special coffees...so it would still pour it from the bottom but you wouldnt need a hole in the cup
good job coming out of the gate in a big game douchebags
bob is just awful and needs to be sent back to siberia
Big game my ass. The team sneaked into the playoffs last year and ended up making the finals. This year they are leading the NHL in points. Hell, I'd almost rather they cool off for a bit and get hot right before the playoffs.
top two teams in the conference separated by four points...its as big as you get this time of year and is definitely a regular season statement game...so far huge fail
for the love of god pull this wack motherfarger
lol at 'statement game'. What does that even mean? We're playing a big game, we have to play a good game to make a statement!

Pretty sure they're going to move JVR and other pieces at the deadline for an established goalie...maybe Vokoun.
Who started that Vokoun-for-BOB rumor? Eklund?
they have to do something in net...it would a travesty to waste this good of a team
not that i care about hockey but hasnt that exact post been the case for the flyers since bernie parent?
Don't bother arguing with IGY...it was only such a huge big game because they lost. Had they won and anyone here said they made a statement, he would have laughed at you.
It's the first game back from the all star break, no doubt 3/4ths of the team still had a BAC level above .05 when this game started.

I was watching it last night and kept thinking to myself, how in the world have the Bucs won a super bowl and the lightning Lord Stanley and I haven't seen the Eagles or Flyers win it (I don't count the 75 flyers since I was too young to remember)? Oh, and our power play is awful.
i also cant stop thinking about that everytime i see a tampa team...its disgusting
and then last night i got to thinking how tampa has owned the flyers this year...how they are not a good look at all for philly...and how awful its gonna be if they beat the flyers in the playoffs this year and then god forbid win another cup
Have you ever been checked for being BiPolar? Jesus, its one game after an extended break.
did tampa play a bunch of games during the all star break or something?
and what about tampas 3-0 record this year vs the flyers....im assuming their were three all star games this year??
I dont give a shtein, im saying if you really thought the flyers would come out on fire off a break you clearly dont know this team. Richards and Carter woudl be useless because they're still drunk, and probably low on bodily fluids after farging broads in Costa Rica. Giroux and Briere were beat from chasing tail at the games, and Bob is fresh off some russian Hoyda that he had to leave in Canada. shtein happens, they'll get their stuff together.
i guess we can all agree then that tampa drives them to drink
Drive me to drink, drives you to drink. I farging hate tampa, they dont deserve shtein for cups or superbowls. zesty fans. Either way, its a long season, and i had this one chalked up as a loss.
how teams play in the playoffs in hockey is a million times different than how they play in the regular season. It's why - more so than any other sport - the lower seeds make runs, some teams are just built for the playoffs (see the Flyers last season). Tampa could make some noise, or they could fall flat on their face and be eliminated in the first round. My point is worrying about them now is pointless.
i cant subscribe to that theory because that also means you cant get excited when they win nine in a row or when they beat the penguins because its means nothing until the playoffs
i care about every game no matter what...some more than others and some less but i get into every game...otherwise why watch
You can get excited because:
The Flyers are legitimately good and better than last season
The Flyers came 2 wins from winning the cup last season
The Flyers have guys who step up in the playoffs
Laviolette is a damn good coach
'We' hate the Pens so trouncing them and winning the division is awesome
You should be excited for those reasons. You shouldn't be down on the team because they lost to the Lightning and somehow you think that's going to translate to the playoffs. In reality what we know is the Flyers are better this season than last, and the Lightning will make the playoffs for the first time in 4 years. They could come out and be world beaters, or they could lose in the first round. But worrying about that after a regular season game is pointless.
I'd also like to point out the Phillies beat the Rays. So farg Tampa. He who laughs last, laughs best.
taking my boy down for his first game tomorrow night. pretty pumped about it
make sure you get him a magnet beer
they didnt just lose to the lighting they are 0-3 against them and have not matched up well at all...i really cant even come up with better reason to be mad than being owned all year by a team that is two pts behind you in the standings and getting embarrassed by them last night
i have gotten upset over far less than that and will again

That really is a nice move, though they were already loaded with forwards I guess this will allow them to end the Zherdev experiment.
I'm thinking this move signals a move for a goalie, possibly JVR for Vokoun.
BIGSTUD move by a BIGSTUD organization.
i dont know how they could get vokuns cap number on the payroll....actually id like to know what they will do to get versteegs on....and vokun makes double what he does
even if it doesnt lead to anything to put an extra 20-25 goals into your lineup without hurting your current roster is really nice

I'm with Peter in that I think the terminology is fan driven and ridiculous. I've been hearing the term 'Statement Game' since 2000 and it's just a ridiculous way of saying 'important win'.
an important win was beating the rangers to get in the playoffs last year...or winning late in the year to clinch home ice would be important
beating tampa an upstart team who has owned your ass all year would be a statement win
and for the record i dont count last night as that...no shootout win can be considered making a statement
So the statement they made last night is that they can give up a two goal lead on the road and then luck out in the end by winning a shootout?
Sounds like the same statement they've been making for three decades to me.
i totally agree with that...in fact im not sure had they even won a 3-2 regulation game it would have been much of a statement since they would have been 1-3 vs tampa this year with tampa dominating a couple of the games
statement game would have been winning last time or beating them last night 6-1
So, it wasn't important and it wasn't a statement. Can we all just agree that it didn't even happen?
Or better yet can we all agree to never use the term 'Statement Game' ever again?
Gold Standard Statement Game at the Point of Attack
How many mouths got peed in? That's all I'm trying to figure out.

more likely bartulis injury is bad and they need to do something for a defenseman
It was reported on sportsrise that O'Donnell might not be out as long as they first expected. They reported he could be back within the week. Any Phantom can fill the 6th spot for a few games until he's back.

its mostly on him....he literally cannot play a game without at least one soft goal...but in the playoffs they will have boucher
the bigger problem right now is finishing...they have to find ways to get the puck in the net...i know everything tightens up in the playoffs and you arent gonna score four goals a game every night but its getting ridiculous...briere needs to be on a milk carton
they need a breakout game where they score 5-6 goals and get a nice blowout win...i was hoping with isles and ottawa back to back they would do it then...didnt happen last night...perhaps tomorrow
It might be the 3/4 syndrome (3/4's of the way thru a ridiculously long season and playing out the string waiting to get to the playoffs).

Apparently, Nikolay Zherdev wasn't the only Flyer who needed a wake-up call this week.
Barely 12 hours after coach Peter Laviolette said his team is missing the sense of "desperation" that defined them last season, general manager Paul Holmgren said the entire Flyers roster needs a wakeup.
"The last few weeks, I wouldn't say we've been lucky, but we need to play with more oomph than what we've played with lately," Holmgren said. "Last night, the Islanders are a good, young team now. They work. And skate.
"I thought they won the majority of races to loose pucks. I thought they won the majority of battles for 50-50 pucks. That's gotta change if we want to get where we want to be. I think our guys recognize that. We need a little bit of an attitude adjustment right now more than anything."
The Flyers have either blown a lead or a tie in the third period in three of their last four games over the past two weeks.
Has complacency set in?
"When you are heading into the home stretch with 21 games left, hopefully, we're in the playoff mix, you gotta play desperate. You gotta win battles, you gotta win races. Those are the things we need to fine tune as a team."
Truth is, the Flyers have won games in the second half they deserved to lose. Some games, they seem to win on autopilot.
"Maybe, maybe," Holmgren said. "Last year, at this time, we were in a fight for our lives. Now we [have], I won't say a comfortable lead, but our position is different.
"Absolutely, I would agree with that," Holmgren said. "The coaches talk about it all the time. The players have been through it before. They'll come around. I think they realize we have to play better."
They haven't really gone through a slump all year. it's tough to keep that level of play for an entire season, especially since they are not really a dominant team. They're deep with talent but not dominant with talent. I'd rather see them slump a little now than flame out down the stretch.

Exactly
Lulls are expected regardless of the team. And I'm not disagreeing with Lavy and Holmgren, but playing poorly and still managing to get points and stay on top is impressive. This team is built for the playoffs, that's why guys like Pronger are so valuable.

Yes. They're in a bad stretch right now, that doesn't mean this is how they'll play the rest of the season. You can't take the last 5 or 6 games and quantify that as how they've played all season. Saying "is there any doubt this team loses in the first round?" now is the equivalent of saying "is there any doubt this team wins the cup?" when they were blowing teams out 8-1.
eight teams will lose in the first round....only one will win the cup
Just an absolutely abysmal effort last night. They played with no passion, no heart, no hunger. Very troubling to say the least.
especially coming less than 24 hrs after the coach and gm ripped them
Exactly. They get ripped a new one by Laviolette and Holmgren and come out against the worse team in their conference and forget to remove their purse and sandals. To many brain farts against some horrible teams.
It probably is just a bump in the road and they'll get their shtein together when it counts. Still frustrating as he'll.

Romes. Another gritty third period performance. Once again losing to a team that's going nowhere.

man have pronger and odonnell gotten really really old seemingly overnite....they look awful
and can we please stop with the bob experiment...these last 15 games need to be used to get boosh into a rhythm for the playoffs...he has to play 11 or 12 of the last 15
O'donnell is old but that's what you get with a 40 year old Dman. I have no worries about Pronger. I wanted a goalie at the deadline, like it or not we're stuck with Bob and Bouch now for the playoffs. I'm not kidding when I say I wouldn't mind seeing them bring Leighton up and sending Bob back down. At least Leighton works with the defenses strengths by getting in good position to make a save and doesn't rely on his cat like reflexes to make sprawling saves.
It's still not time to panic...yet. Lets not forget this same group of players barely made it into the playoffs last season and went on to make the finals.
it's not time to panic ever...they are the best team in the league and they will be fine in the playoffs

i said it before and ill say it again...i feel fine with boosh entering the playoffs...if the team plays up to its capabilities he can win a cup...average goalies win cups these days
i would send bob down to let him learn...you cant be experimenting on a stanley cup contender..let him learn english flop all over the ice and give up bad goals in glens falls...i have no idea why hes still getting the run he gets

that shot by reemer was ridiculous...he made it look so easy but he showed off world class hands right there

will the flyers ever win again?
where is eric desjardanes?
now officially an embarrassment
wake me when the playoffs start
It's embarrassing that they refuse to get a goalie who doesn't absolutely suck decade after decade.
Three of the four goals were absolute garbage.
flyers just allowed four goals to ryan callahan
clowns
I hope the Rangers really lay it on and score a few more. Some teams have to hit rock bottom before they wake up.
they went from the "best" team in the nhl to losing the division to a cindyless penguins and will probably not even have home ice in the first round

It surprises me sometimes that you've watched hockey for 30 years.
When a Philly team is on a winning streak, it's only a matter of time before they crash down to reality and start sucking like IGY knows they suck
When a Philly team is on a losing streak, that losing streak is no doubt going to last the rest of the season and take the team from "best in the NHL" to the 5th seed, because they have no chance of turning it around. At all.
It's all part of the plan to keep the Devils out. yeah
Lavi's gonna rip the sht outta them after this one. If they don't beat Edmonton, then it's time to panic
It's never time to panic during the regular season in hockey. The number 1 seed means little and so does home ice advantage. Regular season games in the NHL are the worst barometer for how a team will do in the playoffs (out of the 4 major sports). It's why teams that barely make it in (Flyers last season) put it all together and make a run. The Flyers have guys that perform in the playoffs. I could really give two shteins how bad Pronger looks right now because come playoff time he'll be the best player on the ice. Like I said before, wake me when the playoffs start.

Bob starting tonight
like it matters
held the Oilers without a shot for the first 18 and change and still almost ended up with the same total by the end. Pronger was pissed in the postgame
yeah, how can they play one farging great period and just turn it off
i have to be honest i didnt watch more than three or four minutes of that game last night and normally always last channel when both winter teams are playing.....the sixers are so much more appealing right now its not even funny...let me know when the flyers are getting ousted in the first round
Boynton in for Pronger tonight. Pronger's hand is still hurting
He's looked okay thus far.
Toronto scored by a puck deflecting off of a dude's dome.
Looks like a shutout just ain't in the cards this season.
No killer instinct in this team whatsoever
Bobrovsky blows. I'd have no problem with them bringing Leighton up for the rest of the season and sending his ass back down to the minor leagues.
Jesus H Balls. Please tell me I just didn't hear that. Up 3-0 and lose to the 11th place team. I am going to be barred from the gym with all the expletives that are flying out of mouth as I listen to these games.

lol how was last night Bob's fault.
The Kane goal where O'donnell had him contained for the most part hit Bobrovsky, rode up his chest, over his shoulder, and into the goal. He lost site of the puck like he does so often. That was a horrible goal. The worst was the shot from the point that went under his pads. He wasn't screened and the puck wasn't tipped. I don't even remember the other 2 goals in regulation but those two stood out as horrible. If he's what they're going with in the playoffs they're one and done. I think they're pissed at Leighton because he signed a deal but didn't disclose his injuries, otherwise I have no idea why Bobrovsky is still with the Flyers. He needs work, he's out of position and if I had a dollar for every time a puck was shot and he looked around clueless looking for the puck I'd be igy rich.
lol PANIC!
OMG THEY ARE DUN!
Pretty sure I'm the anti-panic Flyers fan on this board. Bob gives up easy goals. They're going to kill this team come playoff time. Sorry if I feel a guy who took the team to the Cup last season is a better alternative to a guy who gives up at least 2 softies a game.
sorry you feel a guy who lost them the Cup is a better alternative you mean?
not sure if you've realized, but during this slump in which they've played horribly and i guess have the worst goalie ever, they are still winning games.
they will be fine and you suck on my balls when they are in the finals again.
They may get to the finals anyway, but they'll need a goalie to get hot in order to win the Cup. Agreed?
i didnt even see the game yesterday but bob is terrible and couldnt even win a playoff series right now much less a cup

During the slump they've played lousy teams and do you really feel the quality of goaltending we're seeing from Bobrovsky is good enough to take them to a cup? If he's the starter in the playoffs they don't make it to the finals. Guarantee. At least we know Leighton is good enough to take them there.
Quote from: FastFreddie on March 13, 2011, 12:50:56 PM

Agreed. I think with either Leighton or Boucher you have veterans who can raise their level of play, at this point of their careers they are what they are: average goalies. Bob is too young, inexperienced, and raw to do play the type of goal in the playoffs that this team needs. Soft goals will absolutely kill them and that's what he's been letting in. I'd rather have a good positional goalie who makes sound saves come playoff times than a quick guy who can go post to post.
of course it would help greatly but i dont know if you definitely need someone to get hot...neimi won last year without being great...but you definitely need someone who doesnt let in a bad goal every game
Hot to guys like Boucher/Niemi/Leighton is being in good position to stop the puck and not letting too many softies in during the playoffs. Let the d in front of them block shots and cut lanes off and make a good save every now and again. I don't think Bob plays to the D's strengths.
pronger out 3-4 weeks
giroux has almost a month now to turn the puck over at the blueline as much as he friggin wants without being yelled at

I trust his opinion on the Flyers more than my own but think he's absolutely off his rocker. That said they were playing even worse last year and somehow made a run. So, hope springs eternal?
they barely made the playoffs last year but that doesnt mean they were playing worse than they currently are
they put themselves in a monster hole which caused to have to scramble to make the tournament but after the first 10 or so games of the laviolette era they played really well all the way to the playoffs and were hitting their stride at that time
this season has been the polar opposite...on fire most of the season and complete garbage heading into the postseason
yes any seed can win the nhl but its usually pretty important to be playing well heading in...i suppose they could flip a switch right before game one series one and be a stanley cup contender but that generally doesnt happen
i'll see you haters in the Finals
cool little playoff preview from bob there
Wondering why IGY is hating on Bob for the easy goals when Boucher's been doing the same thing all year
bob with another garbage goal....just incredible

No doubt. That first period by Bob, the last goal to tie it up for the Caps and Boucher's performance in the shootout sums it all up.
I mean, you can't count on him to be the savior, but he can't POSSIBLY be any worse than these two guys at this point. So get him up here and see if he can catch lightning in a bottle.
Leighton wouldn't clear waivers, they won't take the chance.
theres also the thing about leighton sucking....id replace bob with him but then id replace bob with elizabeth taylor...point is leighton could not win a cup with this team
this could be the most frustrating year ever because going into the season they were arguably the stanley cup favorites and now they will be lucky to win one round
Bob doing much better tonight
farging Bob on fire in OT.
Yeah they're only in this game because of him. Made some great saves tonight.
Now for another shootout... :boom

Nice feed from Richards to Versteeg
so they lost at home to the #2, #3 and #4 seeds this week, and we could have a 3-way tie for #1 after Tuesday. awesome
Polishing up for the playoffs.
At least their not getting manhandled by these teams Don't think I could have taken another shootout tonight.
ticket prices going up 8 to 10 percent next year
IGY related, seats on the south end where the flyers shoot twice will be more than the north end where they shoot once.
thats only in the lower bowl....doesnt apply to my seats
Rescaling is a nice euphemism for ass raping.
since the season started getting into the final push for the playoffs whats really become apparent imo is how much the flyers really miss players like asham and lappy
they basically have lost all their toughness this year...and play like some straight bitches with no leadership....and what a soft player richards has become....especially for a captain....what the hell happened to him
I still don't understand why they let Asham go and then signed Shelley. Made zero sense. You traded a slightly younger tough guy with more puck skill for an over the hill fighter with nothing else to add.
bob sucks...what an awful goal. munsons 87u year old grandmother could have stopped that
Bob lets in the usual softy and then supermans across the net to make a great save after playing one-on-one perfectly with Kennedy.
Nevermind, Richards deflected it....but he played the one on one right before that pretty damn well
Haha Orpik pisses of Hartnell with a two cross checks, then Hartnell scores and turns around to give him the business after Orpik gives him a 3rd cross check
Giroux :drool
Was that a statement win?
The Flyers should sign one of those poor souls who weigh 1,000 pounds to play goal. Shutouts galore.

Winter Classic in Philly?
Philadelphia is one of the finalists to host the 2012 Winter Classic, according to an NHL source.
A decision isn't expected until next month, and Citizens Bank Park and Lincoln Financial Field are the venues being considered if the game is in Philadelphia.
It's somewhat surprising that Philadelphia is being strongly considered because the league frowns upon having it in a city where it could rain. The average high temperature in January is near 40 degrees. Then again, the game could be played at night, where the average low temperature is around 25.

TB is pretty much locked into 4/5 w/ Pittsburgh, so I don't think we'll need to worry about them. It looks like the Flyers are gonna face a team with an average offense but great goaltending (Rangers or Buffalo, maybe Carolina) and could face another one in the semis if Washington chokes again...

number one seed doesnt matter but #4 is much worse than 1,2,3.....tampa will sweep them
So do I dust off my Flyers jersey, jump on whatever bandwagon is left and watch the playoffs, or just leave it buried in the closet? I defer to those of you who actually watch them.
you dont wanna watch....trust me
Even when they're dominating, I still don't want to watch. But I do anyway. Supporting to hometown team an all that. Basically, what I'm really wondering is if I break out the jersey, am I going to be putting it away a week later or will I get some use out of it for a month or so?
According to IGY they were eliminated yesterday.
You should be good for a month or so. There's still what, a week left in the season? They should at least go 2 series deep.
So when is Pronger back? It seems they are lost in the Power play and no confidence on the defense. Its maddening that the F.O. Puts so little interest into a good goalie. Meh...

Bob as the starter is scary as farg. He should have shown how good he is yesterday, but he completely bombed. I dont think they go far personally, Pronger makes up for a zesty goalie, but BOB needs to get his head in the game.
starts Thursday (we knew that because of the Sixers playing on Wednesday), then they play every other day. Game 2 is 5:00 because of the Phillies, and game 6 at Buffalo is 3:00 NBC on Easter Sunday
Thursday, April 14 at Philadelphia, 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, April 16 at Philadelphia, 5:00 p.m.
Monday, April 18 at Buffalo, 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, April 20 at Buffalo, 7:30 p.m.
*Friday, April 22 at Philadelphia, 7:30 p.m.
*Sunday, April 24 at Buffalo, 3:00 p.m.
*Tuesday, April 26 at Philadelphia
sabres in 4
Flyers in 6
I'm not kidding when I say I'd start Leighton. Bob is going to destroy them after round 1 with the softies he lets in. I think he'll play good in round 1 but once good teams get a crack at him it's going to get ugly. Pronger needs to dominate again for them to have a chance at a run.
I think Bob's softies have gone down the past two weeks, he was actually playing pretty well until the Islanders game. I think he gives you the best potential of a hot streak through the playoffs.
buffalo is a better match up for them and i think they will somehow win even as bad as they have been but its such a boring matchup...i wanted the rangers so bad
I'll take Buffalo first. Gives them a chance to build momentum going to round 2. I like them in this spot, whereas I'm not sure they would have beaten NY in the first round.

it might have been their preseason pick and they are just sticking with it
this series is really interesting because its gonna be the ultimate battle of momentum vs talent....a lot of people believe that going into the playoffs strong has always been a pre requisite for success in the nhl postseason.....but then there is the other side that says the team with superior talent will win
wells thats exactly what you have in this series...i think buffalo is 9-1-1 going into the postseason and the flyers obviously have sucked ass for two months...however they also have an obvious talent advantage...which one prevails??
the team with less white people
I think hockey is the exception to that rule.
yep...Atlanta missed the playoffs and they have 3 or 4 bruthas
I think it's first names for hockey. Codys and Tylers = Cup
pronger out for at least game 1
Quote from: ice grillin you on April 12, 2011, 02:29:48 PM
pronger out for at least game 1
Where are you seeing that for sure?
nothing is for sure until they drop the puck....but according to the flyers hes not even going to do stick related activities until friday....so unless a soccer game breaks out thursday nite in south philly i dont think hes gonna play
Or did you get caught in the Briere radio hype? Briere went on the WIP equivalent in Buffalo and said pronger is out for game 1 and for the series. Then when he was done he told philly reporters he has no clue what Pronger is doing, and he was just farging with Buffalo
If he is out, they did manage to get Walker thru waivers. I think he plays immediately over Boynton and Syvret. Walker has been pretty impressive in all the games that i saw him play at the NHL level this year, just that he's fragile.
no the flyers said this....they also said syvret would be the 6th dman...but that might have been before walker came thru
ah, hadnt heard anything definitive timeline. I'm not concerned, nothing much you can do. At least they have a lot of talent to backfill. Walker provides that physical play that can really help.
QuotePaul Holmgren states Pronger is day-to-day and will be a Game Day decision for Game 1 vs. Buffalo tomorrow.
can't wait for him to get hurt again when they rush him back
yeah they need to get behind in the series against buffalo before even thinking about bringing him back

Or because he's a weak bitch.
he is a fargface...i dont know if ive ever done a bigger 180 on a player in my life

better start scoring, bob's not gonna stop em all
farging power play :boom 2 man advantage and nada.
is there anybody softer in the league than Jeff Carter, he's a big strong dude that would be wrecking people on forechecks and keeping the puck in the zone. yet, he is knocked off the puck anytime he has it and you never see him throw a check
I have tried to not think of Carter after he whiffed in front of the net during OT of game 6 in the Cup finals.

pathetic
They outplayed the Sabres and ran into a shtein hot goalie.
BEEP! This is a recording.
miller is world class but i wouldnt say they ran into a hot goalie.....hes started one game in the last almost three weeks
last night really hurts because i dont know if they can play a whole lot better bob didnt fold and they still didnt win
they have to put pucks in the net because if it comes down to miller vs bob its obviously all over...in a low scoring close game bob is always going to blink first....not that it was a bad goal by any means but you just cant give up a rebound like that in that situation
He was shtein hot last night, Todd.
well yeah...hes scorching now
They put up over 30 shots, but other than maybe 2 or 3 decent chances, they never really challenged him. All of the shots were from the outer edges and nobody was in front to shield him or deflect anything. Not scoring on the 5-on-3 was a killer. The PP needs to get its ish together, with or without Pronger...
i dont know....most of the first period they were all over him with great chances...the second half of the game was almost completely devoid of an real threats tho...its almost like they came out on fire to prove the last two months of the year was a fluke and they did flip the switch on...problem was it didnt even stay on for an entire game
i almost expect them to fold at this point....like we gave our all and it didnt work...farg this shtein lets hit the shore bars for the summer

I'm predicting that Boosh starts with Leighton backing up
wip just reported that boosh is starting with nodl out of the lineup possibly opening it up for zherdev to get in
also Holmgren denies Eskin's report last night that Pronger's "setback" was a second broken bone
morganti is now on saying that pannacio twittered a couple hours ago that bob doesnt even have a locker up there and that leighton and boosh got the majority of ice time at the skate around

This whole thing has epic backfire written all over it.
i dont have much confidence in boosh or leighton but bob doesnt belong in the nhl and probably sould have been sent to adirondack halfway thru the season...you just cant give up awful goals game after game and be a playoff goalie

Bouch and Leighton aren't anything special but with a D like the Flyers have all they have to do is playing solid positional goaltending and they'll make a lot of saves. Bob freakin flops all over the ice and lets easy goals in too frequently.
Leighton farging sucks...talk about letting in easy goals. Hello game 6

Leighton got them there, Bob doesn't even get them out of round 1.
it's a panic move by laviolette. bob easily gets them out of this round
cant get out of a series if you cant even finish a game
bob sucks and has sucked for months....he shouldnt have started in the playoffs to begin with
all three goalies are weak sauce which brings up the important larger picture that 20+ years after hextall part I we are still sitting around talking about how the flyers have a good team but not a good enough goalie to win a cup
shtein never ends
i guess game 1 never happened?
they are down 0-2 and season is over for all intents and purposes if bob finisihes both games 1 and 2
hes been yanked in two of his last three games and has been giving up bad goals on a regular basis since december
i would have never started him to begin with and said in january you cant have him in the playoffs giving up bad goals....its not like im knee jerking this off game 2
i pretty much agree, but it's silly to see sd getting jizzy about michael farging leighton being back
i can't believe that carter isn't being killed anywhere, none of the beat guys say anything. 12 goals and 7 assists for 19 pts in 43 games and a -10 for his playoff career and another disappearing act in the works.
coatsy was actually getting into him a little bit on the radio today.....i was surprised

Leighton is proven and so is Boucher, Bob's been letting softies in all season and game 2 was just the beginning. It's not even really a question is "who is the better goalie" at this point, it's which goalies style accentuates the D. If they played a looser D where a Goalie had to make sprawling saves I'd say Bob is their guy. But they play a tight checking D with limited lanes.
And Carter should be getting bashed just like he did during the playoffs last season. He can't wait for summer.
Boucher lets in just as many softies as Bob.
I've wanted Leighton for like 3 months now
So sloppy.
Meszaros is a zombie right now. Awful.
is kenny albert on valium or something....the flyers just had a GREAT sh scoring chance and his voice didnt raise even a little bit....it was as if the game wasnt even going on
Gah post. 3-1 woulda been huge.
Leino looks real good out there.
What's worse right now the Sixers shooting or the Flyers power play? I'd say it's pretty even.
brutal rebound
thank god they benched bob, boosh is so much better
you are the anti havas
Bob hates the Wire. Not only that he was refused service at Geno's too.
I'm just confused about why sun can't let this go. Both Bob and Boucher suck in different ways. Why get all buttsore about it either way?
same reason he gets all bent out of shape when someone makes fun of hamels, he has a vagina.
but its a pretty one.

they are 100% accurate....the guy isnt ready for playoff hockey and this has been apparrent since ummmm like december
the argument right now should be boosh or leighton....bob is not in the mix....which is why he didnt dress last night
Oh so your argument is that the statements you previously made are accurate? Well, consider me convinced.
just so we're clear...not ready for the nhl playoffs = throwing a shutout in game 1 until a late rebound goal that wasn't his fault.
therefore, my only assumption can be round 1 game 1 != nhl playoffs

I'm probably talking to a wall here but you can't tell me you didn't notice a huge shift in the dynamic of the team once Bouch came in.

I'm shocked, i always thought Turris was the better option there, and that the Flyer got farged in an untelevised lotto, but JVR has finally reached that point where you realize why he was selected 2nd overall. He's been the best player on the ice for the flyers all series, and its driven by his physical play.
Munson, this all belongs to Miller tonight, and the fact that Buffalo felt they could sit on a 1-0 lead. Goalies win Cups
Okay....lol
I was just being sarcastic with Rusty. But you are right, Miller won the game.

I doubt you'll find one Flyers fan on this board who thinks the refs stole that game from the Flyers. There were bad calls all around and even havas made a 'what an awful call' in regards to the 5 minute major (he tried to modify it to 'nm' before anyone saw it but too late). As bad as the call was the Flyers got a boost killing it off, but Miller was unbelievable down the stretch.
lol so thats what that was

its was a bad call...at first i thought it was horendous but upon seeing different angles i retracted...shouldnt have been called a major but it was a lot closer than i initially thought
in this series youve seen the three stages of goaltending....absolute calamity from a guy who isnt ready for the nhl playoffs to a solid veteran who keeps his team in the game to a vezina trophy winner

not the time but how is this a major sports league when people who live in ny--not the middle of nowhere or the florida everglades--cant watch a playoff game?
he can watch it cant he?
at first i was thinking dh didnt realize the rangers dont play till tomorrow but now im thinking that cablevision doesnt carry versus
it does but im stuck in a hospital visiting room now
Now I'm jacked! Kate Smith! Let's do this!!!
HELLO zac rinaldo
THERE'S EVERYONES BOY!!!!!!!!
yeah that definitely looked like a bob goal...lets see if like bob he gives up three or four more this period
That was bad even in comparison to bobs love for softies.
CALMING INFLUENCE
Holy shtein
Those were arguably the two worst back to back goals ive ever seen
theres not a chance the flyers score more than two goals this game.....series over
24th year in a row they havent won a cup because of goaltending
lol at idiot IGY calling it "bob goals" when Boucher's been letting in the same soft shtein for the last two years
nice job taking the crowd out of the game boosh
Boooo
oh sweet a power play, that should turn things around
this is really sad
because they are exactly like the phillies
in that if they dont win it all this year in that they are going to get way worse
like bottom out bad
before they ever have a chance again
timonen pronger and briere are the glue of the team and all their deals with the devil are about to be up
and their young guys are void of any leadership
lol @ richards and carter being "cornerstones"
giroux has been balled out all year by pronger and the rest of the vets as being a douche
when the bright spot this year is that jvr is better than we thought you are in trouble
oh and they still have no goalie
listen to these fans literally doing a beatles shea stadium scream because leighton is in....dumb fargs you just got eliminated from the playoffs carrying over an epic choke from the reg season and you are screaming like a bunch of women because a guy who lost you the cup last year is coming in???
ARE YOU fargING SERIOUS
they are making phillie fans seem manly
What a nightmare.
Fargers!!
not that youve watched any of it but is this better than womens softball?
3 different goalies in 5 games. Mindnumbing even by flyers standards.
lol at referring to those doorstops as goaltenders.
Doorstop is to kind. I was thinking more like the wet towel you're suppossed to wedge under the door when there's a blazing inferno outside.
These guys would be lucky to score on a PP against the Helen Keller school for the deaf and blind.
1......
2......
3.......
BOO!
heres my question
if ryan miller is this good why are the sabres the 7 seed
I shut it off. Another year wasted because the iceholes who own and run the team refuse to get a top goalie.
how does one have time to boo in btwn fawning over leights

I think you're correct, they do them during commercial breaks. I just find it comical, playoff game, the pressure, intensity, etc. and you're trying to talk to the coach.
:boom
i know hes a marginal player to begin with but jesus is powe worthless
He's a quality 4th line guy, nothing more nothing less.

so funny how buffalo was like ok boys they just tied us...time to start trying again...and have since dominated
That was a great save by Leighton! The net was wide open for a second.
usually all it takes is a second to score a goal....leights saved a goal in a second
More afraid a Saber was going to slip by on the RW and nail it.
Just really nervous right now.
im not nervous at all because i know they are going to lose in OT
farg, I'm nervous during the NFL Draft, well I could give a shtein this year.
almost!
Holy shtein Claude Giroux is ridiculous :-D
farging Miller :boom
Power Play :paranoid

Figures, comes down to a PP with just over a minute left.

Well constructed Power Play?
overtimes with leighton always end well.....
Well....at least they can't lose in a shootout this time.

The best they can hope for is hitting the jackpot in the draft at this point. They have no money to get a franchise goalie nor will they as long as dipshtein Holmgren is running the team.
Briere cuts it in half.
Win or lose, I hope JVR takes this momentum into next year. He's looking like a real player.
gotta tie it up here, get the PP going
5-on-3
This team might be the dumbest collection of canadian dickheads I've ever seen.
Jesus Christ.
Laughable. Absolutely laughable.
all 3 goalies suck tremendously and let's stop trying to pretend otherwise please
correct me if im wrong but pronger drawing the penalty on the 5 on 3 is like jason peters clipping a lineman 30 yards away from the play when desean is pimping on a punt return
He got knocked to his knees & punched in the face after getting slashed but he's the one in the box for "retaliating".
It's a joke but no more laughable than the awful goalie situation.
2 for what now, 27 on PP?
Did you hear Mike Milbury on NBC? "It's an organizational failure. You can't play darts when you're picking a goaltender."
Who's ready for Hextall Part 3?
JVR
Thank you Jesus!

Speaking of puss Saber fans...
QuoteDear flyer fans,
This is getting out of hand. Stop being such ignorant iceholes. Seriously the only reason I don't like the flyers is because of their fans. They're a good team! I have no problem admitting that. If they weren't a good team then the series wouldn't be going into game 7. Yes I'm glad you have pronger back. It makes it a little more interesting. But listen. You guys have to stop being such goddamn poor losers. I have no idea why half of you (some who I don't even talk to so seriously stfu) are posting comments bashing the sabres and myself. Grow a farging pair. Go through my statuses and comments. I never said anything bad about the flyers. So why the hell are you iceholes posting rude shtein on my wall? Grow up. I may be a diehard fan but at least I have dignity and respect for other teams. There's a reason why I'm a sabres fan. Their fan base watches for the game and for the chance that MAYBE our underdog boys will get a chance at the cup. Flyers fans... chill the farg out. Let's keep it civil here. Seriously. There's no need to be such ignorant iceholes. Enjoy game 7. I wish you luck.
-A sincerely pissed off sabres fan.
I'm friends with this girl but good god. Grow a set.
Is she talking about people busting her nuts on Facebook?
Poking fun at Buffalo fans is like making fun of an old man dying of cancer. Their city is dying, they basically haven't won anything ever, yet they are still decent fans who keep showing up. They are in a totally different universe from the Florida and Atlanta fans we regularly trash on here. So give 'em a farging break.
buffalo triples philly in local tv ratings for their team....they have a small but GREAT fanbase

"Briere had been emotionally charged up, and more than a little angry, since early in the game. "Honestly, one of their young guys said something to me that was personal and crossed the line," the former Sabre said. "It got me fired up a little bit more than it usually does. That was probably a big part of it."
A Flyers source said Patrick Kaleta made comments to Briere and teammate Scott Hartnell about their divorces early in the Flyers' 5-4 overtime victory, which evened the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at three games apiece."
Kaleta's been a bitch the whole series, I wish someone would cold cock him

Over the course of these seven games, this team appears to have discovered some balls (maybe the same ones they lost around the time of the All-Star break). The excitement is back!
Ryan Miller is my favorite non-Flyer
Incredible
Great to see them come out and dominate in a game 7, ending on the right note. First time not a 1 goal game, pretty rare I'd think.
Wish Versus dicks didn't cut right to the Van/Chi game. I get it, but they could have shown Flyers instead of commercials.
Good for Bouch. Not quite Pedro Martinez, but did what he needed to. No goalie won 2 games in relief in a playoff series.
They were 19 minutes over. Understandable.
Farg yeah!! Keep this shtein rolling! Spark that izm man!!
Good to see Pronger back and playing actual minutes, even if he wasn't 100%. Danny Briere has been worth the money these last few years in the playoffs.
Over/under on the amount of posts from IGY this last page would have had if they lost?
Flyers win > then the hawk fans bitching about the loss to vancouver, yet they still say they are close to winning it again???? Really???? In what year???
What are they bitching about?
i was at the game so im not sure if the tv broadcast showed faceoff numbers but from my view at the very least the flyers won every single important draw and seeming all their offensive ones
they also blocked a million shots
these are two things that win playoff games and the flyers excelled at both last night
The first period was the best period of hockey I've seen these clowns play in years. If they play like that no chance for whichever team they face.
Briere is just an amazing post season performer.
JVR is a beast
Giroux is the most skilled player on the ice
Zherdev = nice surprise. I like that he's taking the body and is being responsible defensively.
Hartnell is the biggest clutz to ever lace em up.
Don't underestimate the Pronger factor.
Hartnell is so hard to figure out. He can hardly skate and makes terrible decisions he seems to come up with huge goals in the playoffs.
JVR is turning into a dominant player. Worst draft pick eva
haha
hes not even a great player much less dominant
he has become an nhl player tho which is a long way away from where he was a year ago and he deserves major kudos for that
when i say dominant i mean he gets the puck and drives to the net and nobody can take him off of it. he's becoming a good power forward and as soon as he starts finishing those drives more regularly he will be unstoppable.
Quote from: SunMo on April 27, 2011, 08:56:55 AM

I don't know what JVR's stats look like for the series, but in my eyes he was the best player on the ice between these two. It really is like night and day from where he was last year. It's great to see Leino waking up too. That goal of his last night was boner inducing.

people are mixing up best and most improved...dont get me wrong he was really good but his massive improvment is causing people to think he was way better than he was....hes to one dimensional right now to ever be a best player in a series....he doesnt pass or take faceoffs or shut down the opposition or anything like that...
doesnt mean his goals werent welcomed but people need to settle down and recognize giroux richards and obviously briere who were fabulous and shouldnt be put behind jvr just because that is expected of them
grioux in particular was just outstanding in the series....he led the team in pts...led forwards in +/- and ice time (by like two minutes) was physical as shtein leading the team in hits...killed penalties very well and was dominant on faceoffs
dont sleep on timonen either...he was norris trophy level good...made every right play looked totally lidstrom like and for the most part made up for being prongerless
Quote from: SunMo on April 27, 2011, 09:07:56 AM

people are mixing up best and most improved...dont get me wrong he was really good but his massive improvment is causing people to think he was way better than he was....hes to one dimensional right now to ever be a best player in a series....he doesnt pass or take faceoffs or shut down the opposition or anything like that...
doesnt mean his goals werent welcomed but people need to settle down and recognize giroux richards and obviously briere who were fabulous and shouldnt be put behind jvr just because that is expected of them
grioux in particular was just outstanding in the series....he led the team in pts...led forwards in +/- and ice time (by like two minutes) was physical as shtein leading the team in hits...killed penalties very well and was dominant on faceoffs
dont sleep on timonen either...he was norris trophy level good...made every right play looked totally lidstrom like and for the most part made up for being prongerless
I would normally disagree with this on principle, but you're mostly right (especially about Giroux). The improvement JVR's shown is absolutely effecting my opinion. Having said that, I still think I saw that he led the series in scoring chances. He was dangerous throughout and had more 'wow' moments than any other player.
I missed the handshake obviously. Anyone know if Briere gave them the stink palm?

he did have a ridiculous amount of shots...but thats his one dimension i was talking about...he drives to the net takes feeds from others and tries to score...thats it thats the list...and he was very good at it in the series but if you wanna be considered the best player then you better be brett hull or some shtein...or at least lead your own team in goals
the last thing i want this to sound like is a criticism of jvr....he was active as hell and he scored in four of the seven games...he was a key player i just dont think he was the best player by any stretch of the imagination and ive heard more than one person say this and im not even referring to this board...darren pang was on the radio yesterday saying it and im thinking to myself isnt this guy paid to watch these games?
So what's the word on Carter? "Lower body injury" I assume. Anything else?
vaginitis
he had two of his best playoff games in game 6 and 7
I see what you did there.
DID LEIGHTON GO AWOL?
Lost amid the euphoria of the Flyers Game 7 victory over Buffalo Tuesday was the fact that Michael Leighton, starter in Game 6 of this series, was not in the building to celebrate with his teammates.
Where he was is a matter that is being kept pretty hush-hush by the Flyers.
However one team source told the Daily TImes tonight that Leighton was very upset with himself after his Game 6 performance and didn't show up for the morning practice Tuesday.
According to the source, the Flyers tried to contact him early Tuesday but couldn't reach him. They finally got through to him later on Tuesday.
It is unclear what conversation took place with Leighton - either with coach Peter Laviolette or G.M. Paul Holmgren, but Leighton was not with the team in any capacity Tuesday.
A second Flyers source, who said he had no knowledge of Leighton's temporary disappearance, said that Leighton was hurting - both physically and emotionally after Game 6.
Flyers president Peter Luukko denied this report saying he hadn't heard anything about Leighton at all and that he would know if something that serious had taken place.
General manager Paul Holmgren answered an email outlining this story and completely denied it with one brief response, saying the story is "absolutely not true."
We'll look into this to see if we can get more information.
I know igs is picking any Flyer opponent to win in 5, but I keep going back and forth on which of the 3 possibilities is the best matchup. Boston has better goaltending and defense, won 3 of 4 in the regular season and wants revenge for last year, Tampa Bay has a shaky defense and goaltending but they also won 3 of 4 and their power play is lethal, and even though the Flyers won 4 of 6 against Pittsburgh, they're gonna be tough too even without Crosby and Malkin...
I want no part of Tampa. I'd take Pittsburgh or Boston WAY before Tampa.

this.
now we know why easy should only post "things" he knows....not try and break down shtein
if the flyers play tampa they better find out where leighton is and possibly a couple other goalies because the flyers are gonna give up a lot of goals in that series...they match up horribly with them
Tampa is at the bottom of my list, but they're not unbeatable. I'm asking if you guys want Boston or Pittsburgh...
Pittsburgh would get my vote because I hate them more and would love a series victory over them way more than a victory over Boston.
yeah id much rather play the pens....the rivalry btwn the teams and fans is so good and would make the series off the meat hook awesome
boston is boring as farg
Exactly. Good goaltending and defense and who the farg cares.
Pittsburgh's got my hate.
*CLICHE WARNING*
you are going to have to beat all these teams anyway to make it to the finals who cares what order they come in
I care, because I don't expect the Flyers to make the finals right now. So I want to have emotional investment in the games I watch so I am crushed all the more when they inevitably lose.
Do we know yet the schedule or at least when game 1 is?
probably not until Saturday since Friday is reserved for the Sixers (even though there's almost no chance they'll actually use it)
Ha, I got you Easy
The Flyers will open second round at home Saturday at 3pm on NBC
2-0 Boston already and the Habs burned their timeout
I personally want Tampa for selfish reasons. Hockey tickets are cheaper than Puerto Rican whores down here plus a two hour drive is doable even after work.
Boston it is
If the flyers don't win this series in five games or less they should be ashamed of themselves.
It will be a miracle with the goaltending if they win in 5 or less.
Boston didn't have any PPGs in 7 games
GAME 1 – Saturday, April 30 at Philadelphia – 3:05 PM. NBC
GAME 2 – Monday, May 2 at Philadelphia – 7:35 PM. Versus
GAME 3 – Wednesday, May 4 at Boston – 7:05 PM. Versus
...
GAME 4 – Friday, May 6 at Boston – 8:05 PM. CSN
GAME 5 – Sunday, May 8 at Philadelphia – 3:05 PM. NBC
GAME 6 – Tuesday, May 10 at Boston – TBD, CSN
GAME 7 – Thursday, May 12 at Philadelphia – TBD, CSN
I don't want Boston simply because their fans are pathetic bandwagoning Romes.
Flyers in Six.
BTW... that might be the worst thing I've ever seen but I still laughed.
on paper the flyers should win this in four...their third line is as good as bostons first and their 5th defenseman is as good or better than any defenseman on bostons team except chara
and im not even worried about the goaltending
my concern is that buffalo sucks and still took the flyers to seven games...so to me the question is where exactly are the flyers right now
i think a simple mathmatical formula can predict this sweries
if the december flyers were a 10
and the march flyers were a 1
then game seven vs buffalo flyers were a 10
and the buffalo series as a whole flyers were a 4
so...
10+4/2=7 games
10-4=6 games
7+6=13
13/2=6.5 games
flyers win in 6.5 games
now do you round it up or down....this depends on whether you wanna lean the flyers way and go with the on paper matchup or lean the questionmark way and say you arent sold on the end of the regular season flyers having fully flipped the switch...im gonna go with talent here and say flyers in six
Your math is suspect.

hahahahaha! I effing love that.
It all depends on which Flyers team shows up. If the team that showed up in game 7 in Buffalo shows then this series could be over fast. If the other version shows up they could lose the series. I'm hoping they finally 'got it' in game 7 and now they're back like they were last year in the playoffs.
Not discounting the Bruins because they could win the series especially considering the revenge factor, but who would you rather play in the next round Tampa or Washington? I think Washington is a better team but the Flyers match up better with them then they do with Tampa.
Tampa means two in person games for me.
I don't know how to say this without venturing into the world of hysterical over-statements but just having Pronger on the ice made such a difference even though he was too mangled to even shoot the puck. They looked like a different team in game 7. I don't know if it was desperation or a light going on or Pronger's presense or just one of those games, but I think that if they come out on fire on Saturday this series is over in short order.
And yeah, I'd rather see them face the Caps in the next round. I think they can withstand Ovechkin and rack up goals against them. Plus the Lightning just scare me irrationally because they match up so well.
Thery looked like a different team, I agree with this

Better yet, find a real goalie.
Total collapse by all concerned. The defense was complete shtein today. Yeah, Boosh sucked but he wasn't the main culprit today. They better get their shtein together on Monday, or this is gonna be over in the wink of an eye.
im not gonna fly off the handle and say the series is over
im not gonna say boston is the better team
im not gonna say buffalo sucked and the flyers dont know how to handle a real squad
im not gonna say that every team they have faced in the last 25 years has started a series against them with the better goalie
im gonna contine to go with my pre series prediction that they are superior on paper and will win in six
Who will win in six? Boston? Yes.
I'm no boosh lover by any stretch, but he was not the main problem. The defense in front of the net was horrid. Boston dominated every aspect of the game.
that was my impression too, sunny.
it's easy to drill boucher because he's supremely average in every respect, but the defense was abysmal yesterday. like all-time bad. it's like they were disinterested in the beginning, then sloppy, then said farg it towards the end.

This. The problem that surfaced periodically in the Sabres series was pretty much evident from opening faceoff to final horn yesterday.
leino was all time bad yesterday...he was the reason they scored the killer second goal and i would love to see a number for the amount of puck possesion time he had in the first two periods....i bet it was under ten seconds
It seemed like every time the Flyers had possession they lost it because of sloppiness and admitted aggressive play by the Bruins and conversely every time the Bruins had the puck the Flyers had their heads up their asses in disarray.
If I'm Lavy I drill it into their heads from the moment they hit the locker room after the game till the opening faceoff tomorrow. Be aggressive but be careful with possession. If they're charging just dump it out until you get the proper personnel out there. And for the love of God, stop taking stupid farging penalties.

Agreed...they could have had Broudeur in his prime and the outcome would have been similar. They were beaten in every facet imaginable. And the officiating was horrendus for both sides.

Igy, I thought the same thing. Bruins came to town to kick some ass. Leading up to game 1 all I heard from the press was how much more aggressive and tougher the Flyers were. Could have fooled us.

Did somebody in Philly offend Jeremy Roenick? He is a little fargin whiner when it comes to dealing with being a network commentator and has never said anything good about the flyers. Thomas absolutely stole this game for the Bruins. That's what good goalies can do.
Looks like we won't have to worry about facing Tampa Bay.
Jezuz, this and the Phillies losing 2 out of 3 against the Nats. Holy hell. Next thing you know the Mets will be in 1st place in the east!
Seriously though, I know its old hat. But with the offensive talent how does Holmgren or Clarke not get fired with this B.S.? I know Thomas was insane, but the goals Boosh gives up are routine shots, not amazing goals!
Exactly. Look at the last two goalies they've faced. Sickening. It's mind boggling that this FO has not addressed the goalie situation.
I think its the Banner golden standard!
boston is just a better team....they were last year despite a once in a lifetime miracle and its the same this year except they wont choke
flyers actually played great pretty much the second half of the game...as good as they can and they still got beat...say what you want about carter but they miss him especially in a game like last night where they couldnt beat thomas...even if you think carter sucks hes still a 30-40 goal guy being replaced in the lineup last night by jody farging shelly...no matter how you look at it thats a massive gap...and no team should be running out carcillo and shelly in the same playoff lineup
anyway that game was farging awesome until the ot goal....it was insanely electric in the building it was physical as shtein and there were tons of scoring chances...it was the sport at its best
never should have brought choker boucher back in.
it'd be nice if the captain showed up in one of these games.
richards played outstanding last night he was all over the place...unless you are referring to him not finishing...but you could say that about everyone except reemer...and even he missed some critical chances that would have won the game in the second and third period
he was running at people, i saw that. but i don't think he's playing overly well defensively and his offense has been putrid
I thought Richards was the worst player on the ice with the puck on his stick last night. And it wasn't even close.
maybe because the puck didnt go in...but he had to have had double figure shots on goal...hes was all over the net....like i said he just couldnt finish
He lost the handle on the puck, looked slow as shtein, couldn't finish, didn't settle the offense... not captain material right there.
I also thought Richards looked like shtein. His play doesn't need to be at an elite level but as the captain of the team he should be the hardest worker out there and should lead by example. He's taken big steps back in the leadership category and lets be honest Pronger is the true Captain of this team.
I made it to 2-2 and then fell asleep. Glad I missed the end. I can't stand watching them play their hearts out only to lose because of the wack ass goalie.
i just watched the god bless america stuff from the pregame
does ed snider know how to overdue it or what? holy farg that is one unapologetic republican bastich.
they have done that for just about every playoff game for the last ten years and the tradition goes back to the 70's
only real difference last night was the color guard.....but they even occasionally do that
i know that
i meant the language the pa guy used before the song started.
what did he say?....that bush should get the credit for killing obl or soemthing like that
"ladies and gentleman, yesterday was an important day for our nation. we sent a message that america is relentless in defense of freedom and the pursuit of those whose hatred and violence threaten our nation and our way of life. while we will always remember the lives lost and the loved ones left behind, tonight, we pause to salute the remarkable men and women whose remarkable courage, service and sacrifice protect and defend freedom here at home and around the world."
cue colored girls, 5-0, fire dudes
i dont know i dont really see the big deal....seems like a good thing to say to get 20 thousand flyer fans in a frenzy
just seemed a little too over the top to me.
its a hockey game, not walter cronkite trying to put everything in perspective

right now their plan is flyers on versus, caps on the nhl network and wings cut into versus when the flyers game ends
now i know their next tv contract will fix this...i think they are either going to spread games out better or use another cable network in the nbc family to air games.

Four miles in forty four minutes. And I honestly only threw up once. I felt like getting sick coming down the bridge and instead of holding it in I puked my guts out. Seemed like a good idea considering this performance...
hah, finally score, and the net is off
It's time for one of these Bruin Romes to get cut.
A few thoughts:
I would bet a decent amount of money that the young core of this team went out and got lit last night for JVR's birthday. They looked sluggish and sloppy and lazy throughout the game.
Boston is not that good, but they are a team that plays hard and plays physical and after the game against them you feel like you've been in a fight. That used to describe the Flyers. Now the Flyers look like they want to play like its the goddamned all-star game every night. You aren't good enough to dance around guys and play for the perfect shot. Man up.
Only one of the Boucher goals was his fault tonight. Those first two were farging abominable defense. The third was a breakaway. Having said that, playing two straight series against two great goalies is so depressing. Jesus, Thomas has just eaten their lunch.
They looked indifferent in the beginning, scared after it got away from them, and impatient to get the farg back to the hotel midway thru the third.
They know they have no chance with whatever coat hangar abortion is in net, so why bother killing themselves?
Blaming this game on the goalie is farging stupid. The skaters lost this game and have no one to blame but themselves.
Everyone wearing white played zesty. Laying blame on anyone in particular is stupid, I agree.
You actually continued to watch this farce? I enjoyed a Phils win instead.
Except for maybe JVR, the entire team has been shtein this series, and although you can't blame just the goalies, there's gotta be someone that can steal a game or two when the rest of the team is average and there's zero chance of that with this group. Whatever is wrong with Pronger....hand, hamstring, back, third testicle...these guys are Hoydas without him....
what a bunch of stupid farging Romes.
and richards didn't do a whole lot in the playoffs last year either.
0-3 0-3 IS NORMAL COME BACK CONDITIONS, GO FOR IT.
pronger has milked injuries for the last two months and the rest of the team are Hoydas?....at least they are on the ice
i think this locker room rift is being underplayed...its been behind the scenes all year and reared its ugly head in the playoffs....in the regular season and against buffalo it may not effect you as your talent takes over but when you really need to bear down against a super tough team like boston you have to have everyone on the same page
its no secret that when the season got real and most other teams were in do or die playoff races the flyers folded
l also think its stupid to overanalyze the goaltending and say it wasnt there fault or it was...thats looking at it too closely...fact is they have had the most goalie changes in the history of a playoff series that didnt involve injuries...the goaltending is the worst its ever been for a flyer playoff team and thats farging saying something when you look at the last 25 years of this team in the playoffs...its an embarrssment a disgrace a travesty of epic porportions and holmgren should be fired for that alone

I don't know if they did, but I do know they dined together as a team at this place:

What a farging coward.
That is funny :-D. That dude heckling is the best.
Flyers just as flat as every other game this series outside of game 2.
God carcillo is farging dumb

God carcillo is farging dumb
And lame, now. Looked like he broke his foot to me.
carcillo is awesome to wake up a sleepy tuesday night regular season crowd at the wock when they are playing st louis...other than that hes utterly devoid of any usefullness....and i like the guy
btw how neutralized has briere been this series...totally invisible
yeah I was thinking that earlier tonight. haven't noticed briere at all this series after the first goal. really the only player who has stood out in a positive way has been JVR and even he hasn't done much since the series moved to Boston.
i thought everyone played great in that second game...they were fantastic....jvr (of course) giroux richards and even briere were all selling out...to the point where i was like im proud of this team and they are gonna win game three and if not win maybe make this a series....but man was i wrong
Series over?
Steegarama, Steegmiester keepin hope alive, steeg a steegadingdong!
Igy, go back to the sixers series um never mind.....
wow someone had a few too many budweisers tonight....suprised you had enough time to post on the board in btwn teaching your cute kids how to harass minorities
And boom goes the dynamite. What an awesome night for igy!
btw the young rich black guys had an infintely more succesful year than the GRITty canadiens
disappointing, but not unexpected
This team looks nothing like the team that was on the ice for the first 60 games of the year. Or the last two fames of the first round for that matter. They don't even look like a playoff team. Go home douchebags. You deserve a long offseason. Spineless iceholes.
spineless is about the the best description you could give...whats annoying is that im as mad i as am right now even tho we all saw this coming for the last two months but were still somehow fooled into thinking they could make another run
farg them for making me feel that way
btw is there any doubt that to ruin and basically render meaningless the flyers incredible 0-3 comeback from last year that the bruins will win the stanley cup this year
It all is about the goalie, u can say as much as u want that the defense quit, or the team as a whole quit. The bottom line is this whole season/playoff run was a fargin joke cause the goalie, pick any of the three are a complete joke! The flyers get a legit goalie and then we can talk title, they get more rookie or washed up busted ass goalie we will see more of this hot mess! Trade Carter, Richards and 1 other and get some fargoin grittuy ass hard knock players!
When igy dies and goes to hell, is there any doubt he spends all of eternity trapped in a padded room with mussa?
Still at it igy. No way Boston wins it, they have as good of chance to win it all as the mets have at winning the NL east, even with their awesome motivating coach!

yeah a team in the semi finals of its league and having just swept someone is definitely the same thing as a team that is about to go bankrupt and finish last in its division
good call on that one chief
Bankrupt? I thought they had good leadership and challenge the Phillies, wait was that the Mets or the Nats..... I'm confused
im gonna go with you are confused since that seems like a easy and obvious answer
Whew, that makes me feel like everything is ok in this world.
Oh wow I read igys first response and figured it was mussa not mic. Oops
Boston isnt getting by Tampa. I'd let Leino walk, and dangle Versteeg and some picks to try to get a goalie. Move some other pieces to open up some space. And slap the C on Pronger already.
im not saying richards is the answer at captain cause he clearly isnt but im not sure i give the c to a 40 year old who cant get on the ice
I'd let everyone walk at this point including Snider for continually ignoring the need for a legit goalie.
Christ - Leighton, Boosh & the Russkie? That's your grand plan going into the season? Sounds more like a zesty NBC sitcom than a plan for winning a Cup.
its incredible that for almost 25 years the flyers have been the poster child for how not to treat the goaltender position and yet somehow this year they were able to top their own ineptitude

I'd let Leino walk
Wow, really?
No.
They need the cap space for a goalie and not another run of the mill guy like Leino who's either off or on. You have to make cuts somewhere and he's where I'd start. If they could move Shelley's incredible awful salary and trade Versteeg they'd have space to get someone. Of course my #1 option would be getting rid of Hartnell but I doubt they have any takers. The time to move him was last offseason when he was great in the playoffs but that time has passed.
I'm still down with the move Carter for Schneider and picks.
Leino is a dime a dozen player, no need to commit long term to him
including the playoffs giroux...richards and leino had a combined 10 goals in their last combined 66 games played
that is incredible
apparently gawd has been playing the last 6 weeks with an injured wrist and needs surgery
Pronger has a herniated or bulging disk besides the wrist and hamstring injuries
And I'm sure tomorrow it'll come out that Giroux was legally dead for the last 2 weeks.
Enough with the excuses.

And JVR had how many in the playoffs alone? Put the C on that kid.

I'm thinking this is more like the scene in Saving Private Ryan where the Nazi is slowly slipping the knife into the jew soldier and telling him to hush.
(moved to 2011 offseason)
