Since it's become an unfortunate focal point this year, why not have a thread dedicated to it.
I was reading on PhilaPhans where someone heard SalPal saying that he was told that McGlynn is clueless when it comes to making the line calls and it was so bad on Sunday that Nick Cole had to make the calls in the second half.
So if that is true, then the hope of Reggie Wells taking over at RG is slim because Cole isn't the greatest C. Unless they'd be willing to shift Cole back over knowing that with Vick back there he has escapability.
Peters gets rolled up every other play
Herremans has a bum foot and could explode at any moment
Mike McGlynn apparently can't make the protection calls
Nick Cole is serviceable as a backup G, but can't really handle C
Winston Justice is average, and average on this OL means all-pro
Reggie Wells is a veteran who could help, but at whose expense?
MJG is nothing more than a backup.
For a head coach who loves to throw it 40 times a game and who used to be an offensive lineman and offensive line coach AND who was planning on starting a young buck QB he sure farged this situation up, didn't he?
This may be the year I will actually celebrate if they pick a lineman in round one. One that doesn't hear little voices in his head.
Preparing this week has been easier knowing, instead of wondering whether, he would play, McGlynn said.
"Now it's like, 'All right, you're the guy.' You don't have to worry about that element of the unknown," he said.
Jackson, after coming back quickly from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, suffered a torn triceps Sunday against the Green Bay Packers and was lost for the season.
Guard Todd Herremans described McGlynn as "a student of the game."
"He's always trying to find something to beat our protection," Herremans said. "He's full of 'what ifs' in the film room, which is always a good thing because it means his mind is working at possibilities of things we could see."
he knew he would be the guy during the detroit game too
the line should get tested big this week.
mcglynn can have the brains of john nash all he wants, it still wont help the fact that he'll get bulldozed over 3/4 of the time
that's ok though, cause now reid has a qb that can scramble.

those quotes are actually from before the detroit game
oh ok. thanks.
youre welcome
McGlynn would be fine if Nick Cole was worth a damn. A center is only as good as his guards are assuming he handles the snap correctly...which McGlynn did.
So then they should put Cole on the bench and start the guy they gave up a precious draft pick for.
whats hilarious is that this upcoming draft is one of the weakest in a while for lineman...things will change of course but right now there might be two or three OL total ranked in the top 20....and theres no "cant miss" stud types anywhere...the top lineman is i believe castonzo and hes bottom of the top ten
to put it perspective its been over five years since an OT has not gone in the top 5
Watching McGlynn play he seems to be fairly solid. Cole is terrible, I don't know what the team sees in him. Peters is pretty much a bust. Herremans and Justice are ok.
http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/blogs/O-line_Were_not_reason_for_QB_switch.html
QuoteMike McGlynn, though, seemed to take a little offense.
"I don't understand that either," McGlynn said. "I don't know how we're taking the heat for the quarterback switch either. Mike [Vick] went in there and did a lot of good things. To say OK, we're going to switch the quarterback because of the offensive line, I don't understand that."
A reporter told McGlynn that the perception was Vick could scramble and get away from pressure better than Kolb.
"I disagree. I don't think it has anything to do with us," McGlynn said. "Like I said, we gave up some sacks last week, but there's a lot of variables. One was on a screen, there's a lot of variables. And people just look at OK, they gave up six sacks, they're terrible. No, you watch the film. Watch the film and then you guys can critique us then."
Watch the film? That's his farging response? Jesus CHRIST I hate pro athletes.
12 sacks in two games is a trend mikey...not a fluke
I honestly wish I could watch the film.
If I had stuck with journalism/radio and a guy dropped that it would be nice to counter with "I did. And you sucked."
BTW - Reggie Wells has been seeing increased reps at RG.
Let's hope he starts soon.
mcnabb should be jealous of reggie wells
Because of how slim he looks?
Oh yeah? Why?
because you love yourself some reggie
lol
He's a good player. And I hate bad OL play. Their ignorance towards the OL position is annoying.
What's up with your boy Howie, Havas?
have they ignored it or have they made a string of massive miscaluclations along it?
this past draft they certainly ignored it but really what could have they have done to make it better right now...taking pouncey instead of graham is the only substantive move they could have made
and i dont wanna talk about him

Just one big mistake; banking on Andrews. Desperate to get him back on the field, they picked up two schlubs that were supposed to talk him back onto the field.
Weggie Rells
whats really killing them now is the fact that they really have no viable backups...one of things that made the team so successful in the 00's was their depth and the ability to bring a guy off the depth chart slot him in witht he ones and have him give you soemthing
their two and three deep was just about second to none in the nfl....now not just at oline but pretty much across the board they have almost no depth
I remember reading an article about Doug Brzezinski and how he would be a starter for most teams in the league and how unreal their depth was. Now they have crap. Is there anything worse than when they put King Dunlap in? The DE goes right to an edge rush and beats him every time.
and the only reason hes even in the game is because theyd rather him play tackle than jean gillies play guard (and move herremans outside)...its like the lesser of two awfuls
or whats the opposite of an embarrassment of riches?
An embracement of poors?
Brzezinski
Artis Hicks
Hank Fraley
Those were the top three subs
Steve Sciullo
Alonzo Ephraim
Adrien Clarke
Trey Darilek
Those four were average and good 1-2 game fill in's
Scott Young.....AWFUL
Ian Allen...AWFUL
so it's agreed - The Offensive Line truly is?
embarrassment
per marty, winston & mcglinn the line has played well and you're all just a bunch of haters.
Teams will continue to overload the line and blitz until McGlynn improves at the mental side of the game. Also, Nick Cole proves time and time again that he should be a backup and yet keeps getting trotted out there. The tackles will both miss plays but are average (Justice) or above average (Peters) more often than not. Herremans is fine.
Honestly, I think that McGlynn will be better and better over the next few games. If Hank Fraley can be the center of a playoff team's line, then McGlynn certainly can. Plug Reggie Wells in there at RG, and let the guys play together a few games. I'm not saying that they'll be a dominant line, but they should be good enough with the speed and playmaking ability at the skill positions.
I can't mention enough how much I hate Nick Cole. He is average on a good day and needs to be thrown in a fire.
diddy said cole is the only lineman hes seen anything out of this year
at least peters is proving his pro-bowl selection was legit.

Define "anything" in a certain way, and I might agree.
said hes been good in the run game...im not here to defend nik cole...my point is that how bad is the line when nik cole is playing the best football out of all of them
i wonder if vick makes it past the skins game.
awesome bowen

The Eagles' offensive line is improving so quickly, it actually ended the week with one less sack allowed than it had when the week began.
The team said that upon review, the NFL agreed with o-line coach Juan Castillo, who contended that when Michael Vick pounced on a fumbled snap last Sunday, ending what looked like it might be a handoff play, the Detroit stat crew was incorrect in awarding the Lions a sack. So the Birds enter Sunday's game at Jacksonville with a league-high 11 sacks allowed, instead of 12.
Boo-ya, indeed.
this is like christmas for all the beat writers who have been continuously shtein on by andy.
No, this is just the appetizer. When the team loses to the skins, it will indeed be Christmas. Or Yom Kippur for many of them.
I'm thinking it really gets going when they lose to Dallas again.
Nah, too long until they play. The shtein will hit the fan way before that.

Pretty sure Nash never had the nickname "Big Stupid".
I didn't read through the Jax thread but anyone else notice a huge shift in pass protection once Cole was pulled from the game? I know Wells got a holding penalty but he was solid for the most part.
Cole was trying to play on one leg, not exactly good for an average O Lineman.
you wont have to worry about him because hes out this game anyway
its completly overlooked because of vick being so awesome but the macklin touchdown right before the half was 1000% on the offensive line....vick made a sick throw but he had forever to and because of that there was just no way someone wasnt going to be wide open at some point...you just cant stay with wr's that long
They did an alright job protecting that play, but there were 8 guys in to block and only 2 running routes.
they kept guys in because they recognized the blitz...and they did a phenominal job on that play not just alright
if you are gonna rip them when they suck you have to credit when they are great
reggie wells seemed to be an upgrade at rg. justice was getting destroyed by Kampman though.

Watch the play. Vick threw it just before he got nailed. (http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2010092610/2010/REG3/eagles@jaguars#tab:watch) Good enough protection, obviously, but it better be with 8 guys in. Are you saying that you think McGlynn told the backs to stay in to block? Because the coaches pretty much admitted that max protect was dialed up from the sideline.
Plus, I was defending the line (sans Nick "stubby" Cole) compared to most people, and the Jags are generally thought to have one of the worst front sevens in the NFL. So, simmer down now.
he had almost six seconds to throw the ball...that an eternity regardless of how many guys you keep in...they have kept in extra men this year and given up sacks and as they have been deservedly ripped for those...so when they do the exact opposite they deserve a ton of credit....the oline made that play happen...vick was able to progress from sideline to sideline from the pocket and make a play
Fine, mad props. Reggie Wells is better than Nick Cole also. I like cheese.
the line did some ok work, but that wouldnt be the best play to hype up the o-line. the jags def only came came with 3 down on a delayed blitz by the lb's, not to mention like ff said vick was in shotgun with 2 rb's to block. he better have 6 sec to throw.
had vick been under center and the lb's blitzed off the snap, those 6 sec would of been more impressive no matter the protection scheme
the o-line did what they should've on that play, against a weak pass rush. there, i praised them.
now can we get back to the fact that this line still has a ton of issues ?
Let's see how this line handles Orarkpo. McGlynn has been fine and I think he will get better with more experience.
McGlynn will be fine now that he has a half way decent RG in Wells. Cole was maybe the worst Guard I've ever seen in pass protection. He's an okay run blocker which would be fine if they ran the ball more.
the one sack by Knighton, you could see Mcglynn went over to help Cole, Cole seemed to have him, Mcglynn peeled off looking for someone coming up the middle,a nd Cole got steamrolled. Shortly after that he was pulled.

Max Jean-Gilles has taken reps at first-team RG as Nick Cole is missing practice time with a knee injury. Cole is questionable for Sunday.
Why?
Pretty sure it's because of the knee injury.
you're really going out on a limb there
The opinions on Wells' performance are varied, but maybe they think he's more of a finesse guy and that won't fly inside against the 3-4? Who knows.
i love when j gets all disheveled about which backup guard is playing then immediately proceeds to pick the eagles to easily win

Wells backing up at LG after MJG moved ahead at the depth chart for RG (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/Reid_Cole_.html)
QuoteCole "questionable" for Sunday; Jean-Gilles may start
Guard Nick Cole missed his third consecutive day of practice and it will be a "game-time decision" on whether or not he plays, head coach Andy Reid said Friday. In a mild surprise, Max Jean-Gilles would get the start if Cole is not ready, Reid said.
Cole is listed as questionable for Sunday.
Recently acquired Reggie Wells filled in for Cole during Sunday's game against the Jaguars, but got tepid reviews and said Friday he has worked this week at left guard, where he would back up Todd Herremans. It was thought that Wells might compete for a starting right guard spot, but he has apparently fallen behind Jean-Gilles there.
"Reggie's been a left guard for the last six years. So to learn the offense and then put him on the right side, I'm not sure that's fair to him," Reid said. "Max has played both sides. Max came off a heck of a training camp – most of that was on the left side – so I put him over there where he's played for us before and has a little better feel for the offense right now."
Wells was a starter for the Arizona Cardinals, but was moved out of his customary left guard spot when the team signed Alan Faneca. He then lost a training camp competition on the right side and was dealt to the Eagles for a sixth round draft choice in 2011.
"It's something I have to be patient with," Wells said of his moving spots. He said he wants to be on the field, like any player, but that there is an adjustment to a new offense and moving from one side of the line to the other. "Offensive line is more than just knowing the plays. It's ... being comfortable with the guy next to you and knowing where that guy is going to be as well."
Back up linebacker Omar Gaither said he thinks he will dress for Sunday's game. He was inactive last week. Gaither said this week he has worked on the first team for several special teams units, and so expects to play.

Fat Jay Gee
lol
That is why I dont like MJG
AWFUL.
Eagles worked out ex-Dolphin RG Donald Thomas.
The offensive line sucks.
Maybe they should switch places with the defensive line.
They're zesty...
Vick looks shook.
Vick says in his post game presser that the players believe in one another, but how can he, or anyone believe in this line? They are simply horrible, and if Reid doesn't draft two rooks in the first three or four rounds I'll be shocked.
Calm down, old man. The Giants brought extra rushers all day.

Really, there shouldn't be this much hatred for the oline. They've actually been damn good as of late.
No they haven't. Vick makes them look good, but they are atrocious.
they were good when it counted yesterday
Pretty good at the end of the Dallas game too...
Crucify them! On crosses! Go, Jesus!
^^^ Gin ^^^
I don't see were they played good at anytime yesterday overall. There might have been two or three plays were Vick actually had some time, otherwise he was getting sacked, hurrying throws, or running. I didn't dvr this game though, had to watch it at a neighbors who has the ticket.
The Giants have the best D-line in the league, so lets give credit where it's due.

thats a shocker
They sucked last night. Really awful.
Justice and Peters were getting murdered all night long. And Jean-Gilles must have been daydreaming about food or some shtein because he might as well have not been on the field.
Their run blocking farging sucked too. Just about all of the positive yards there are directly due to Shady's creativity and skill at picking his way through the defense.
well at least they adjusted to pick a blitzing winfield.
oh wait.
McGlynn blows and I for one will be glad when Jamaal Jackson comes back.
really? because jamaal jackson is so mediocre its not even funny. he does nothing to increase the value of this o-line.
I don't see it that way.
