theorizing....
phils play mets at home opening nfl weekend so that leaves a road game
three of their road opponents play other teams that weekend (sd - chi - oak)
the prime time schedules have come out for that weekend so im taking the liberty of eliminating the three division rivals as i think the league will want to save them for either a prime time spot or a 4pm later in the season start
which leaves at atl or at carolina opening weekend
which kinda sucks as those were my two road trip possibilities for this year and tickets to an opener are way tougher to get
make sense?
When does the official come out?
I am definitely going to the Carolina game if it is a Sunday afternoon game. Will buy tix on Stubhub if I have to, but would also be willing to help organize a group buy.

I hope you're wrong. Obviously, Atlanta still shouldn't be a problem, but that could make Carolina tougher than it needs to be.

i havent seen a date yet but lately its been middle of april
my guess would be april 14th
i don't think they see a Eagles/taterskins game as a marquee matchup and i could see them facing off week 1
they almost always play the skins in december...and have only played them before november once in the last like 15 years and that was the spurrier monday nighter
its certainly possible the opener could be at wash but it would buck all recent trends
Dallas is out....they're on the road in week 1 too
And they just opened at Atlanta 4 years ago
My guess: 4:15 at the Meadowlands in the national FOX game. Division rivals + playoff rematch + final season opener at Giants Stadium
They played Washington at home in Week 2 of the first year at the Linc. And also, in October the second year of the Linc.
the opener this year wont be at the linc
sure they could play the skins at home in week 2...but im talking about specifically the opener
theres really nothing to base who and where week two will be against...at home is a good guess thats about it

would be referring to games IN WASHINGTON
Very well. Carry on.
of course my theory all goes out the window if they somehow open at home...but can anyone see this happening with phils mets across the street?
i guess phils mets could be 8 and eagles at 1...but i think to make things easiest the eagles will be out of town that day
the nfl really hasn't cared in the past
Obviously the schedule makers didnt know this before they drew shtein up last year, but Game 3 of the WS was the night of the Eagles-Falcons home game which started at 1 this past season. I was at both games (yes, as a Mets fan) and parking/logistics were all fine. I dont think Phils-Mets has any bearing at all on where the Eagles open up.
It's good to have all of this information in one place.

They also opened the season in Washington in '96 and had a late October one in '94, but otherwise yeah they've been November or December ever since Rhodes. In the Campbell/Ryan/Kotite years it was the opposite. From '84 through '89, every Washington game was in September (including back-to-back season openers in '86 and '87), and '90 through '92 were also early...

it definitely has a bearing...the question is how much of one...if they can avoid it they certainly will...and with there being absolutely no reason the eagles HAVE to play at home i dont think they will...altho its obviously not out of the realm of possibility...i just cant think of a reason why you would play them both at home that day
giants eagles across the street from mets phils would be bonkers tho

There's a big difference between 1-8 and 1-4
i went back to the early 70's and cant find a single scheduled regular season eagle phillie conflict...i think its safe to say its not gonna happen this year

well thats true but i wanted to see some other trends...like if they were even by chance in town at the same time...like there was never even a weekend where the eagles played monday night and the phils were at home sunday and tuesday
its weird to it seemed like whenever the eagles were at home the phils played at the mets like 75% of the times

This made me laugh.
I'm interested too, because my three roadie possibilities are Carolina, San Diego, and an outside shot at Chicago. It all comes down to scheduling, but I hope that one of my roadies isn't the opener. It seems like a waste that early, plus as IGY mentioned, tickets will probably be harder (i.e. more expensive) to get.
And I'm crashing at FF's house for the Carolina game.

Sure. I'm only a short 157 mile drive. Fly in to Raleigh instead of Charlotte, and make a homoerotic weekend of it!
Marathon poker and beer fest at FF's on Saturday. Let's see if we can get him divorced.
So drunken passes at his wife are mandatory?
Good luck. Obviously, as you would have to assume, my wife puts up with a lot.
I assume she doesn't often put up with unshaved faces billowing beer breath at her, telling her how awesome her rack looks.
Ignoring the extent of correctness, you're both right within any reasonable level of significance.
Supposedly the 4:15 FOX national game in week 1 is Cowboys @ Broncos, so it looks like we're getting a 1pm game and probably rules out the Giants. Maybe the Carolina game is the opener...
didnt i already tell you that easy?
you did. big ups
you dont know what that means coming from the king
Dude. It will be like 75 degrees here. Cheerleaders wearing basically nothing. Good times.
no roadie ever happens opening weekend
still a 50/50 shot the opener is at atlanta tho
I will be there whether or not you have a gay rule against opening weekend road trips.
let us know how it is
Who's "us?"
I'll expect to see everyone in Oakland, our little Camden by the sea...
I did the opener in GB a few years back...
im not saying you cant go to a road game week one im saying you cant put together a road trip week one
attending an away game = 4 or less people
road tripping = 10 or more people
i dont know what 5-9 people is called
Gathering on the road?
road gaggle maybe?
what would be harder about doing a roadie in week one compared to any other week? other than tickets maybe being a little bit harder or more expensive.
most heads i know go to the shore or away for vacations in august and/or take time off and travel around labor day...so another trip a week later isnt really feasible both time off wise and $$$ wise
then theres the undefineable part of it but something everyone feels...and thats the fact that it just doesnt seem right...like you arent into full on football mode like youre when its in the heart of the fall and getting colder and 6-78 or whatever games into the schedule...i cant really explain it but its a feeling that doesnt exist week one
Up in GB, it was a bit of a weird feeling until the tailgate started. You'd be surprised how fast that feeling comes back. Once I found the party of Birds fans, you could have told me it was mid-November and I woulda been fooled.
But, generally, I agree. Roadtrips are better when the team is 5 or 6 games deep or so.
Riveting. I'm still going.
If the Eagles open at Carolina I will definitely not be there. I will, however, be at the home opener this year. I don't care if I have to sell a kidney - I ain't missing another opener for the rest of my life.
Preseason schedule:
8/13 or 8/14 = vs New England
THU 8/20 = at Indianapolis FOX
THU 8/27 = vs Jacksonville
THU 9/3 = at NY Jets
Ah, so the parade of newly gone Eagles will continue...
Dawk and Buck come back with DEN
Tra and Fast Greggie will come back in the PS
and Considine
If they open in Chi-town I'm in baby! Still haven't been to the Linc >:(
they cant open against chicago
Well that sucks.

of the days that happen annually schedule release day is my favorite
schedule release day
home opener
draft
free agency begins
i love making my own special self laminated (with packing tape) hand schedules...i love writing the games in on my calender...i love seeing how the games fall on my mondays off...i love seeing if the road trip game is gonna fall where i want it...love seeing when the skins game in dc is gonna be...love to see when the home opener is...its just never ending fun
it can deathly disappointing like when they played new orleans right before xmas...but the anticipation and the day its released is like christmas

based on all of that, i'd say that the scheduling release day would be well within it's legal rights to get a restraining order against you.
The draft is usually either on my birthday or within a couple of days of it, so the draft is my favorite off-season butta johnson.
draft might be number one if you didnt have sit thru 12 hours of crap btwn each eagle pick...i actually always liked the second day of the draft better when the picks are flying along....this year will be better tho because they have two first rounders relatively close to each other
It's all the interviews with coaches and the puff pieces about the draftees that makes it insufferable.
I don't mind sitting through the other teams' picks... those are interesting, especially when they are perceived as bad. Last year I watched the draft with a Cowboys fan whose two hopes were 1) DJax to the Cowboys, 2) Failing that, anyone but Felix Jones. He got to watch Jerry Jones pass over Jackson twice, pick Felix Jones, and then see Jackson go to the Eagles.
Shcedule comes out tomorrow
It's 6am... Easy, do your thing!
Not that it really matters, but the Eagles have the 9th ranked toughest schedule (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80fbaa5d&template=without-video-with-comments&confirm=true) based on last year's opponents.

Start off hot after a loss to Panthers in the opener. McNabb puts up huge numbers, then defenses get smart, McNabb hits the wall with no running game. Disaster mid season puts McNabb close to the bench again, but the strategic mind of Reid comes to the rescue once again with a commitment to the run. Birds sneak into playoffs again next year only to revert to the pass and lose horribly in the wild card game. Reid is praised for mid-season turn around and gains another year pass. McNabb gets trashed again. More bitching and moaning from fans, nothing changes. Even less hope and desire for next year. GO PHILLIES

The two prime time games and cross-country after the Dallas MNF was shady, as was the fact that it initially had the Carolina game listed as MNF.
Looks like the Eagles season ends with the Dawkins grudge match and then a trip to Dallas. I want that fake schedule back.

Good:
Three game homestand against medicore teams with a bye mixed in.
Bad:
The bye would have been better in that stretch when 4 out of 5 games are away (with the home game being the Skins).

I'm going to Carolina anyway. farg you all.
I'm going too, and going to wrap it around a trip to the corporate office. But even though I go, I won't use it as my "roadie", though I will later claim I did a roadie to Carolina.
I'm going wherever Sunny & IGY are going.
Those guys can party.
if youre down for lots of bud lime and umbrella drinks then its the roadie for you
We're going to cut Ed and let MDS start in his place. Ed's over 30 now, showing signs of aging, and probably has a bad knee.
Ed's a company man, though.

I'll be hanging with FF the whole weekend. We're going to cause a worldwide lime shortage.
wow easy this is bad news bud
yea this is a new low. I think this is where I go to Russia and train with logs or something...
Do the words "Tommy Gunn" mean anything to you?
how do you disable a machine gun?
throw some grenaids at it.
Hahaha
Wow brutal schedule.
3 NFC East teams back to back to back again.
lose the opener - because they always do to any team with a pulse
swept by giants
split with cowboys and skins
lose the tough road games (chargers, bears, falcons)
win the home opener (toughest call)
win the typical after the bye game
win before the bye only because it's home against the chiefs
win against dawkins because of emotion in stadium
8-8
7-9...all the emotion will be with dawk not the eagles
the emotion will be in the stands and i am figuring the team will play up to the atmosphere in the stadium
of course, dawk could be on IR by then
6-10
six straight games at 4pm or later
three of them 8pm starts and i have off after every one of them
my biggest problem with the schedule is three of the four prime time games being on the road
all i needed to see was MNF in DC and I'm happy.
ugh really?
the traffic getting to and from that game is a living hell...driving there in rush hour traffic on the beltway is insane and getting out of that lot on a sunday is bad enough but at least you get home at a decent hour...
getting home at 3am on a worknight doesnt work for me
Your lack of commitment to getting there at 2pm and destroying your internal organs at the expense of your career is disappointing.
tailgating doesnt start at skins games till four hours before kickoff...4:30 in this case
if it was in philly id be there at 11:30 per usual
I know for a fact that I have been to the FedEx lots WAY before 4:30 for a night game to tailgate.
not in the lots
Lack of commitment. That's your problem.
i feel comfortable in saying that my tailgating committment is unrivaled by any....cept for the lunatics in the wachovia lot who look like theyve been there for weeks when i arrive at 5:30am...of course they dont have to come from maryland
Whining about a delicious Monday night game in your back yard does not show the kind of commitment that this team needs. Scott Hartnell would not approve of your alarmingly low level of intensity.
Panthers group tickets were $51 each last year, for groups of 20 or more. Even if it's up to $60 or so, it's still a great deal.
I will be getting a block of 20.

Oakland and San Diego in early fall - Woohoo!
Oakland is never nice, no matter what time of the year never nice.
i wouldnt call the sd game in early fall either...altho im sure the weather will be great...altho i never understood the need to go to a football game in nice weather...colder the better as far as im concerned
I do understand the football/cold weather tradition-of-it-all having spent years in the clutches of cold rain and sno. All the romance of steam rising off the sweat and the breath on NFL films, etc. And true, vomit and whizz doesn't smell as bad when frozen.
But November in SD is sublime. Best time of year in the west after generally coolish summers.
Yes, Oakland pretty much sucks anytime but it wouldn't be any better if it was cold. Plus batteries carry farther.
its not romantic its more comfortable...then again im a big fat guy and despise heat

Truth, i shouldnt be sweating at a football game unless i'm having a heart attack
ha
the worst games of the year by far are the september johnsons where the sun is just relentlessly beating you down for 12 straight hours...god damn i hate those
but it's a dry heat...
Phanatic and I went to an Eagles game in KC a few years back - it was literally 90 degrees or more in the air and something like 105 on the field, plus the sun beating down on us was unbearable. Not a lick of breeze, and the worst part was is was so freaking hot that if you didn't finish your beer in 30 seconds or less, it took on the temperature of fresh piss.
But that was the awesome comeback from way behind game, so it made every minute worth it.
edit: found it:
Game Date: October 2, 2005
Eagles – 37
Chiefs – 31

Wonderful.
Tickets on StubHub start around $84 right now. Single game tickets will go on sale this summer.
I'm still going. Depending on how much my ticket costs, I may be drinking PBR instead of Hell's Belle.

Greg Lewis can't catch a farging cold, pretty lame, but very true
Been there... done that shtein... and done it a whole lot worse.

i think we all do that. except that most of us have enough common sense not to record it and post it on farging youtube and show the world what massive tools we really are contrary to our savvy on the internetz.
Training camp
7/26 = rookies
7/29 = everyone
8/12 = done
ill be there august 1 weekend....so hype
Are you going to be able to make it at all, Phreak. If so, I look forward to your reports

2nding this, your reports are 10 millions times better than the shtein in the newspapers.
Thanks...and it looks like I can make it. I was going to start asking for the dates tonight because I need to request my vacation time. It looks like it falls in perfectly as I was planning on coming home from 31 July until 10 August.
So I can go to the 01 August practices.
Awesome!
What kind of a dork would fly thousands of miles to attend a farging football practice?
Hahaha for real.
But seriously, Rome, you're getting salty in your old age.
I only flew 900 miles to see training camp in 2004.
That's okay.
Thousands, though? Dork!
Not strictly for that, but I'm glad its included in my plans now. I wanted to watch the Eagles, catch a Phils game and spend a week or so down the shore.
:flipoff
So you'll need three Eagles jerseys then - one for t.c., one for the ballgame, and one for the beach.
So my Trotter, Dawk and Andrews will all come in handy!
