Title: As they do every odd year...ticket prices go up
Post by: PhillyGirl on February 02, 2007, 08:53:03 AM
QuotePrices rising for '07 Eagles tickets

MIAMI - The Eagles will increase their ticket prices for the 2007 season, according to Leo Carlin, the team's director of ticket client services.

Prices for lower-level and some of the premium seats at Lincoln Financial Field will be raised from $80 to $90, with the exception of lower-level end zone seats, which will increase from $65 to $70. Upper-level seat prices will go from $65 to $70.

"Providing quality entertainment and a terrific game-day experience is our priority," Carlin said in a statement released by the Eagles. "Historically, about every two years we have adjusted our ticket prices to remain comparable to the league average for a team in our size market."

The Eagles said they figure to rank between sixth and 10th in the league in ticket prices when all the NFL teams finish adjusting their prices this winter. At the moment, the Washington taterskins, New York Giants, New England Patriots and Chicago Bears charge more than the Eagles do.

The same mathematician who figured that ranking is probably the same one who figures the waiting list number.

upper level seat prices are currently $60!  a $10 (17%) increase is rediculous.

I've been to probably 8 games...never paid a dime for my tickets.

Never would.  Either get 'em free or watch on TV.  And if the latter, not paying to get any special NFL package, either.  The only $$ the Eagles will ever see from me is the occasional hat or jersey.

Got better things to do with my coin than feed this monster.

Well, 1999 was at the Vet....so if you thought ticket prices would stay the same when they moved to a new stadium, that boggles MY mind.

That's not it at all.

Every year the salary cap goes up, because league revenues go up. They go up from more advertizing revenue, jersey sales, beer sales, food sales, TV contracts, video games,  and any number of the 10s of thousands if item with the NFL or Team logo on them.

All of that increases every year.

Fans were told, the new stadium needed to be built, to increase stadium revenue, to be competitive in today's NFL.
SBL's were introduced to offset some of the cost of the stadium being built.

Moving into the new stadium saw the advent of higher food prices, higher beer prices. Getting hounded for a mastercard at every gate.

Have the opperating costs of the stadium risen that much that they need to increase them every two years?

The NFL is going to fall under it's own weight at some point, it will get to a point where many people will bypass the tickets because of the cost. At the pace it is now, by 2013, it will cost over $100 for the worst seats in the house.

b.) stamps are kinda necessary
c.) I haven't checked, but I'm pretty sure stamps havne't increased in cost 65% in 8 years

don't get me wrong here folks...I don't have a problem with YOU paying whatever they charge.   I just won't do that.  Same for concert tickets, and all kinds of other hugely inflated luxuries.

if your favorite thing in the world to do is go to professional sports games and you'll pay whatever it takes to get in, good for you

bottom line is im willing to pay for something i love to do....no different than someone paying x amount of dollars a year on their car cigarettes traveling going to the movies and dinner ect....

until it gets to the point where its to much i will continue to do it

and im not even close to that point yet

So what did 16 wins, 16 losses, two playoff games and enough pathos and drama to fill a screenplay get Eagles fans who watched these last two seasons unfold?

Oh, just the usual biennial adjustment to the price of seeing a game at Lincoln Financial Field. The hikes were announced late yesterday afternoon and affect the following areas:

• Lower-level and some premium seats will rise to $90, from $80.

• Lower-level end-zone seats will move to $75, from $65.

• Upper-level seats will move to $65, from $60.

Ticket manager Leo Carlin said in a release that "providing quality entertainment and a terrific game-day experience is our priority. Historically, about every 2 years we have adjusted our ticket prices to remain comparable to the league average for a team in our sized market."

Indeed, the amount and scope of the ticket hikes come pretty close to matching what the Birds did less than a month after losing in the Super Bowl. Then, the lower bowl went from $70 to $80, the lower end zone from $60 to $65 and the upper bowl from $55 to $60. Eagles president Joe Banner at the time called those increases "modest."

The accepted barometer for the price of attending a game is the Team Marketing Report, which still reflects prices for the 2005 season. On that list, the Birds ranked ninth in what's called the Fan Cost Index, which adds up the cost of a family of four attending a game, and ranked ninth in the average cost of a ticket, at $66.09. That was less than the taterskins and Giants, and about even with the Cowboys. The average cost of an NFL ticket in '05 was just below $59.

Among the teams that announced ticket increases for 2007 are the Bills - who unveiled their highest price increase in 17 years on the price of an average ticket that will remain the league's lowest, at $46.45 - and the Dolphins, who are raising prices on more than 4,000 club seats, some more than 200 percent. They just finished a 6-10 season.

Ha!  And while there are a ton of complaints about the Eagles not using increased revenue to improve the team, they CERTAINLY are more efficient about doing so than the government is about improving roads or schools.

If you don't believe that, you probably also don't think Al Sharpton's a racist.
Title: Re: As they do every odd year...ticket prices go up

My lower level seat at the Linc is now priced the same as the lower level seat I sat in last weekend at the Wach for a Flyers/Rangers game, at $90 per seat. I can't decide if that makes me feel any better. I guess given the relative importance of one game in 16 for the NFL vs. one of 82 for the NHL, it's a better deal...although, the NHL has such a weak TV "package", you practically have to attend the games to see professional hockey these days.

Still, I'm with Rome...I don't feel too good about a 64% increase in my ticket price going into the Linc's fifth season from the last year at the Vet ($55 to $90), on top of a $2,400 seat license. The seats have gone up even more if you factor in the increase also covers the basically worthless preseason games also billed at a full $90 per ticket.

I may be reaching my breaking point, soon...when it reaches over $100 per game for the next increase in two years, it may be time to sell...folks don't mind it as much when the team is consistently winning, but it's going to make it hard to swallow many 5-11 seasons, when that cycle eventually comes around.

Don't misunderstand me, PG... I knew they were going up.  I had no illusions of them standing pat nor am I particularly upset that they're raising prices again.  It's part of the deal.

Besides, if I really get upset over it, I can always sell my SBL's and make a 300-400% profit on them.  I won't of course because I'm stupid.

Can't speak for the rest of Florida (particularly the Gainesville-Ocala area), but down here the Yankees outnumber the Rebels about 4-to-1.

Every year I poll my classes and ask how many were born in Florida, and that's about the ratio.  And even those kids that were born in Florida, their parents were born in a northern state.

Additionally, in the West Palm - Ft. Lauderdale area, there are more freaking New Yorkers than you can shake a stick at.

Another good reason not to go there.  The only New Yorkers worth a damn live in New York.

I'm a Yankee, not a New Yorker.

Anway, yeah...Florida is great.  And the Eagles are charging too much money for their tickets.  All of which goes to Jeff Lurie rather than the team.  Burn the Linc!!

At the pace it is now, by 2013, it will cost over $100 for the worst seats in the house.

yeah not to mention that replica jerseys (real ones not the ebay garbage) used to cost $50 until last year now $70 for the same material.

wanna see real money gougers, see Jets and Giants who SHARE AND PLAY in a 30 year old swamp and charge the same amounts of the Eagles are (on average).  And wait till they get the new place in 3 years they are going to push all of the remaining blue collar fans out of the stadium. Its everywhere not just in Philly!

Boston is even worse. Of course, they have 3 Lombardi trophy's, but they have pushed every single working class/lower middle class fan away for Gillette. It's a bunch of suits and stuck up New England liberals that go to the games. They have virtually no homefield advantage now, save for the game or two played in crappy weather.

complain all you like, complaining whiners.

though I would argue it's better to complain about something you can't control as much, like your neighbors or you co workder, than about how you spend your discretionary money.

waaaahhh
