According to Andrea Kremer of NBC Sports, Dawkins has agreed in principle to a 2 year contract extension and will sign the agreement on Monday.
No link as of yet. I'll post it when it becomes available.
It's supposedly worth a little over $6M total.
Niiiiice.

Yep - $2M signing bonus was reported. That seems way low to me, but hey, what do I know?
That's a helluva hometown discount if Dawkins accepted it.

Maybe there was more behind the tears then we thought.
Nice. This is a great signing for the Eagles, Dawk, and the fans.
Man if that is what they signed him to they should almost be ashamed of themselves, they couldn't have given this guy a little more money upfront, it isn't like they don't have the cap room this year. He deserves more.
Christ. The guy isn't signed, people bitch. He gets signed, people bitch. Oh, poor Dawk. His agent must have been befuddled by all the big words thrown around. It's a miracle he didn't get stuck with the veteran minimum for 11 years!

I am extremely happy that he has an extension, but I think it is bullshtein they couldn't give this guy a little more. He has never been anything but a complete professional for this team.

Word. If the money's too low for Dawk, that's something that he and his agent need to go and talk about.
I'm just farging happy that it seems a whole lot more likely that he's going to retire an Eagle. :yay

Man, I agree with you 110%. A 2 mil signing bonus!?!? I would have thought it would have been 5 mil, especially with paying him what, 3 mil a year? That's a steal.
I'm happy as anything he will be here the next two years, but damn. I guess he wants to be an Eagle until he hangs it up for good. You have to love the guy for that.
Christ, people are COMPLAINING about what DAWKINS agreed to? ::)
Good job by both sides to get it done.

That, more than anything... will be what keeps Dawk out if he doesn't make the Hall. Safety is a pretty tough position to get into the HOF from. Now, Dawkins has been a HUGE part of changing the perception of what a saftey can do in today's NFL. Let's hope that carries over when it comes time to vote.
Hope it's true.
Spadaro just confirmed it sorta...

QuoteDawkins Agrees On Two-Year Deal
August 6, 2006
By DAVE SPADARO
CANTON, Ohio -- Brian Dawkins wants to play his entire career with the Eagles and the team wants Dawkins to stay. And for two more seasons after this one, Dawkins will be where he wants.
The Eagles announced on Sunday that Dawkins has agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension, removing any doubt about the star safety's future here.
News broke a few weeks ago that the Eagles had approached Dawkins about a contract extension, and Dawkins confirmed that information early in training camp.
But the story faded into the background as camp intensified, although the Eagles and Dawkins continued to talk.
Dawkins continues an impressive run for the Eagles. They've signed offensive guard Shawn Andrews, center Jamaal Jackson and now Dawkins since June.
Dawkins was always a priority. He has been a stellar piece of the defensive backfield since 1996 when he joined the team as a second-round draft choice.
Good.
Surely this doesn't guarantee that Dawkins retires as an Eagle--he could play for several more years at this pace, no?--but it's welcome nonetheless.
I want him to retire as an Eagle, at any financial cost.
He'll be 35 when the deal expires
If he makes it that far without injury, and he's still playing well? Such a thing is possible.
1. Excellent
2. They did not put a gun to Dawks head to sign this. So he obviously was pleased with the money. Not to mention he has made a ton of it already. I don't care about the money. He's signed and thats all that matters.
What did Milloy sign? Is it comparable? I believe it is.

Wunnerful, wunnerful!
I don't know who that is.
It's Lawrence Welk, not exactly your kind of music.

in a weird way it saddens me to learn that he is getting up there and wont be here soon in terms of playin. counting this coming season thats 3 seasons and then who knows. i really hope he retires here and if he wants to play after his 2 yr extention that we keep him till he cant play. i dont wanna see him in some other uniform. and i really wanna see him retire with a superbowl. one at least.
great news still.
A buddy of mine got suspended from school for saying "Wunnerful, Wunnerful" at a talent show.
[End non sequitur.]
That's awesome news! I'm glad they got him signed before the season started. Now we won't have to hear about his contract situation all year. Now to get Lewis inked.
Banner said on NBC that they wanted to re-sign him on the day of the HOF game to make a statement that he is a hall of fame player. :yay
Good. Next up? Some depth on offense, for Chrissakes.
BSAKETT UBER ALLES!

I'm warming up for the regular season by getting drunk for the HOF game.
That's a great cover, but I am still not sure that he is a HOFer. I hope he is but after seeing the HOF lineup for DB's there aren't that many in. Of the guys coming up in the next 5 years or so I would think R. Woodson, Green, Deion (if he decides to stay retired), and maybe D. Woodson and Eric Allen. Dawk is as good as the latter but I am not sure they are HOFers.
I doubt Darth Dawkins makes the HOF.
great player but hes not a HOF'er
good for Dawk. i hope he kills someone before he retires.
Sort of depends on how long he plays, and what else he does. Story isn't finished being written quite yet.
Defensive backs are the most scarce position in the HOF...only 1 that players at all within the past 16 years (Lott) being inducted.
Dawkins will most likely not be in the HOF...not because he's bad or anything. it's just the nature of a DB.
I hope he cripples T.O. on October 8th.

Knowing what a little snatch Owens is, he'll probably take the week off with a hamstring injury.

I'm on the fence about that game. I figure several things can happen.
Eagles Defense shuts him down and sacks the ever loving crap out of Bledsoe
TO gets his but Eagles win
TO gets his, the Eagles lose, my head explodes, and the fans in the stands run riot and kill him.
Other than your head exploding, I'd be fine with all three scenarios.

At least half the fan base wants T.O. playing for the Eagles?
Ha.
I call bullshtein on that, IGY.
i think when he got suspended and at the end of last year, that was true.
but now, people who used to think that they still wanted him, have been brainwashed by the FO that he was the sole reason for 6-10 last year. i would say at best its 85/15.

listen to wip...go to a bar and talk sports with random fans in the city ect...and youll find lots of them
you also have to take into account the large amount of fans who will claim they hate TO because its cool now to see who can hate TO the most or they simply hate dallas but dont really care about TO either way
Most of the hardcore Eagles fans I know hated T.O. before he even got to Philly. They tolerated his presence while he was producing and almost became believers when he came back for the Super Bowl.
Then last offseason happened.
If you ask the 30 or 40 people who routinely watch the Eagles week to week with me, trust me, you couldn't find a single one who wants him back.
Dead? Sure. Crippled?? Absolutely. Back on the Eagles?? No fricken way, Jose.
You can want him on the team and still hate him.
I dont see why they have to be mutually exclusive.
No, you can't.
So Eagles fans are OK with TO going one of their biggest rivals? Then I read in sports illustrated how he's working out in reps of 10 and 8 so he can stick to the Eagles. If your a fan and you want TO on the team and are OK with him going to one of your biggest historical rivals then just castrate yourself... that is incredibly accurate
Quote from: Jerome99RIP on August 08, 2006, 03:30:49 PM

But that doesnt mean I wouldnt still want him on the team. I like winning, and he made the Eagles better.

youre completely missing the point
they might hate TO because hes on dallas but not because what he did to the eagles
my point being the majority of the fans at the dallas game will care more about dallas than TO...so to portray that game as if some sort of riot is gonna break out or the fans are gonna murder TO ect ect ect is wrong
except to the media TO and joe banner this game will not be much different than any other dallas game...will some fans buy into that media hype...sure...but i laugh at all the fans that think its going to be out of control

Since there's no quantifiable way of confirming any of this, I'm moving on.
I will say that 100% of the people in this forum named Jerome99RIP wouldn't want T.O. back on the Eagles under any circumstances.
I would want someone of TO's talent on the team but not TO. There's a difference.
Dallas games are amped up enough without another reason for fans to get crazy. I'm not saying that there will actually be a riot but everyone on this board will get apeshtein crazy out of their minds blissful drunk if TO gets a Dawk plex and leaves the game...
I hate TO because he was an ignorant, selfish piece of shtein. He did everything he could to try to rip apart the team. I don't want to even hear his BS either about how he just "told it how it was." I didn't have a problem with him doing 50 TV interviews a week, but I did have a problem with him taking every shot at McNabb possible. I don't care if he hated McNabb. If you are a good teammate you don't do it, period.
I hated TO since he put himself above the team and was a big catalyst in having the 6-10 season. I couldn't care less if he was a Cowboy. I want the Eagles to pound the Cowboys even worse now because TO is on it, not the other way around.

Yeah, I loved it when TO was catching at least a TD every game, but when he got a hair up his ass and dissed my qb, who regardless of what you think is a consummate professional, I saw what the players at San Fran already knew. He is a me first big loudmouthed icehole who is his own worst enemy. So I'm sorry for loving him while he had the best season of any Eagles receiver in history. It's over now, and any Eagle fan worth his salt can see that we are better off without him, whatever kind of stats he puts up.
