Howard was right!!
Howard said he just heard from the team they got him and cut France.
what else is new?
respect the gawd
What a farging joke.
this move excites me less than Alonzo Jackson going to the practice squad.
I'm going to shoot myself.
Seriously.
WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
So this is just coming from a radio show host; not from a legitimate source, right?
I don't believe it yet.
He said the Eagles released the statement. He wouldn't say that unless it came directly from the team.
You disgusting man-love for Eskin is nauseating.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
If this little prick ass bitch misses FG's here like he did in Dallas I am going to go Larry Allen on his ass.
Start taking up a "Bail Phreak Outta Jail" collection now.
He cost the Cowboys games. He farging sucks. SUCKS!
I don't even understand this decision. Unless they really are bringing Akers back this week. None of this makes me excited.
I don't get it either. Howard said he heard they were just going to use him for kickoffs, but Akers won't be playing this sunday.
... or will he? Maybe the Eagles know more than they let on. Maybe Akers is ready for FGs.
I'd rather have Pinkston kicking.
This is a joke, right?

The Philadelphia Eagles announced they have claimed PK Jose Cortez (Cowboys) off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys.
Eagles | Akers Injury Update
Tue, 25 Oct 2005 13:46:09 -0700
Updating a previous report, Bob Kent, of PhiladelphiaEagles.com, reports Philadelphia Eagles PK David Akers (hamstring) could begin practicing this week and might play during Week 8. "If Akers is not back this week, he'll be back the next," head coach Andy Reid said. When asked if Akers will practice this week, Reid said, "We'll see. I think within the next few weeks here, he should be able to work it out." Akers has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Boys will be signing France now. I don't get it -- France was passable, and Cortez was cut for LOSING GAMES!
If he starts this week it makes no sense. This could be a very close game in Denver. We can't have him missing easy FGs.
This is moronic, and I'm glad the Andy Reid apologists aren't out in full force.
Akers must be playing. thats the only way it makes any rational sense.
Even then it makes no rational sense. France is good enough to sub completely for Akers but not part time?
Very odd move, regardless.

He still sucks.
And he blames everyone but himself when he sucks ass.
Miss an XP? Blame the blockers and have larry Allen cave his face in.
Miss a FG? Immediatley point to the holder and blame him.
He's a loser. A true loser.
Maybe you signed him to protect Akers from doing kickoffs. He was with Minnesota as a kickoff guy, if I remember right.
I agree with that. Instead of keeping France and giiving Akers a few more weeks to heal up, we could potentially get him hurt again and be stuck with farging Cortez.

Which is why I said Akers will be back this week for FGs only, IMHO. Consider Cortez the kickoff specialist. Akers' leg won't be ready for KOs.
Nice to meet you too.
WTF? I just left work about an hour ago.
This move is ghey. France doesn't have a booming leg on kickoffs but one thing I noticed is that he got some elevation on his kicks which gave the ST time to get down the field and cover.
If Akers would get hurt again, I'd much rather have France along with his mediocre kick offs and seemingly reliable FG's instead of Cortez's deep kickoffs and missed field goals.
I hate every posssible reason for this move.

for me the worst part of this move is not cortez kicking field goals...cause as pg said i cant imagine cortez kicking any...but that they are rushing akers back...they already made an error in putting him in when he shouldnt have been once
Maybe Cortez can run the ball?
I agree with PG. I don't think we'll see Cortez kicking field goals. If that is indeed the case, it's not a bad move.
I can see him kicking them. Right after Akers pulls another Kerrigan.
I don't get this at all. France isn't Akers but he's a solid kicker. Cortez blows. This sucks.

This is totally baffling. Jose Cortez totally sucks the big one...and he always has. Biff has to be busting a gut laughing at this one.
The answer to the "which XFLer will be cut next" question better fargin' be "Cortez again."

This move makes absolutely NO sense otherwise. Hell, even if it did... why GIFTWRAP a quality K and send it to your most hated farging rival?! ???

Just want to say again...
Cortez sucks.
I haven't read the whole thread, because like a lot of posters, from the two pages I did read, you guys were of the same opinion as myself--at first. So, if I say anything that's been repeated, I apologize.
The reason Cortez was brought in was simple--KO DISTANCE.
In 7 games with the Cowboys, he's had 5 touchbacks, and he's had 5 KOs that have landed outside of the 10. His deepest was 6 yards deep against the Chargers.
In 3 games with the Eagles, France had 6 KOs OUTSIDE OF THE 10. His deepest was to KC's 3 yard line. In that same game, he had KOs to KC's 11, 14, 15 and 10. Against the Chargers, he had kicks that went to the 14 and 15--which means that the Chargers were getting the ball right around the 31--since they held Sproles to a 16.2 KOR average.
We'll have to suffer with Cortez FG kicking against the Broncos, but Akers is supposedly coming back against the Skins. And it looks like Reid will go with a KO specialist in Cortez to ease Akers back in.
I was hoping they might have Cortez for one or two games, cut him, and bring back Chad Lewis. But I take it that because they haven't signed him as of yet, he's not healthy enough to come back. Stephen Spack has been a nice story, but he's dropped some catchable passes in key situations.
At least they knew better than to put a pic this scrub up on PE.com while in his Cowgirl uni.

Don't worry, I am the only one who agreed with you on that, so its not being repetiitve. You should go back and read the thread to see some of the reactions on it. Its quite humorous.
PG is the only one who thinks signing Cortez isn't a big deal. Let me see if I can make her see the light:
1. Akers is hurt.
2. He's already tried to come back early this year from injury and farged himself up even worse.
3. Akers sucked donkey anu even before he got hurt.
4. France has filled in nicely. Hitting important FGs after a rough start.
5. Akers is coming back suspiciously early from this injury.
6. As such the likeliness of him reinjuring is high.
7. Cortez, who isn't exactly the strongest legged kicker in the league is being signed as our 'kickoff specialist' but if Akers goes down, he's all we've got.
8. To make matters worse, France has done well enough for it to be likely that someone will grab him off of waivers.
This may not be a big deal THIS SECOND, but the chances of it becoming a big deal are relatively high considering Akers' flakeyness and general suckitude this year. Scoff all you want, but this could be a disasterous move.
#5 with a bullet
9. i could get a couple touchbacks kicking in that denver air...there should be no urgency whatsoever to get a kick off 'specialist' this week

QuoteEagles | Cortez Signed Because of Kickoff Abilities
Tue, 25 Oct 2005 18:28:11 -0700
Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports the Philadelphia Eagles have given indications that newly signed PK Jose Cortez will remain with the team even when injured PK David Akers returns to the team. The Eagles made the move because they believe that Cortez has a much stronger leg than PK Todd France, who struggled to get his kickoffs past the 10-yard line. By employing Cortez on kickoffs, the Eagles would make Akers' return from a torn hamstring less strenuous. 12 of Cortez's 34 kickoffs this season have gone into the end zone, and he has had five touchbacks. Nineteen of his kickoffs have been inside the 5-yard line, and all but six have been inside the 10.
And Parcells said "We'll bring Scott in and see how he does..." during his PC yesterday. :-D :-D
Yo Bill, take off the boxing gloves and take a look at the roster. Kid's name is Shaun.
I'm cool if Akers comes back.
But what was the hurry to sign Joser Cortez? What? Expected another team to sign him? Ha!
Should've kept France. Then when Akers comes back and shows he's straight you cut France and pick up some shteinhead like Cortez to do kickoffs.

Parcells won't pick up France--for the SAME REASON the Eagles let him go. Do you think Parcells would be happy for teams to set up shop on the 30-40 yardlines after a KO? France had 4 KOs that landed outside of the 10 IN ONE GAME--Reid and Co. are trying to improve that facet of the game--at least until Akers is healthy enough too do that, which might not be until December.

Yeah, I'm a little surprised but not all that bothered by this news. After all the shorty kicks that France did if Cortez can just reach the 5 that'd be a great thing to see. After France's kick as the end of the Sandy game barely, BARELY reached the 10 I was cursing him since Sandy got great field position since it's a clear 15 yards before an Eagles cover guy even got in the screen.

Not true. Kickers need to keep their mouths shut and be glad that they even have a job in the NFL. Now if he goes the extra mile and shoots TO with a nail gun I may change my attitude.
He would definitely know how to use a nail gun. It's innate for his people.
It's a shame Cortez didn't last longer in Dallas. Him being in the roofing biz and all that, he could have fixed the top of the shteinhole they play in. God woulda been pissed.
I was shot with a nailgun this summer. It's not that bad.

Just think how lucky this schmuck is. The only reason he has a job is our extra kicker went down in camp in California. He was working as a roofer, and because he was local, we brought him in. Then Cundiff goes down, and because Cortez was actually decent in camp, he sticks. He's finally let go, but goes less about a day before being signed again. So he goes from roofing work to making around $200K so far this season. He said himself after he was let go that he was surprised to get the call in the first place.
Like him or not, somebody's sure looking out for him.
