Title: Banner: We want TO here
Post by: MURP on August 15, 2005, 11:37:42 PM
QuoteAugust 15, 2005
By ZACH BERMAN

PITTSBURGH -- Team President Joe Banner was interviewed on the Heinz Field sidelines before Monday night's game, and remains confident that the Terrell Owens situation can be resolved.

Banner understands that there is a large difference of opinion regarding Owens' contract, but stands firm on the Eagles' position not to re-negotiate the contract. Rather, the Eagles want to focus on resolving the problem and getting Owens back on the field to help reach the Super Bowl.

"It's time now to get back together and get focused on our goals," Banner told ESPN's Suzy Kolber. "I know T.O. wants to play here and I know he wants a Super Bowl ring. Hopefully he can put the emotions he has behind him and the difference of opinion we have and contribute to that for a year."

Banner confirmed that a letter was sent to Owens regarding last week's dismissal from training camp. The intention was to clear any misunderstanding about the dismissal and outline the Eagles' expectations for the Pro Bowl receiver

"We wanted to make sure there was no ambiguity about what it was that we didn't think was acceptable and try to set a positive goal for his return on Wednesday as for what we can do together and what we can accomplish," Banner said.

"Hopefully we can get to a fresh start and achieve the goals we have."

The notion that the Eagles might trade Owens was also dispelled. Banner emphasized that the organization wants Owens to play for the Eagles and no one else. He said the team hasn't sought interest in Owens, nor have they received any indication of other teams trying to obtain him.

The goal remains keeping Owens in an Eagles jersey this season and creating a situation where he can pick up where he left off after his record-breaking 2004 season.

"He is a great player and we're still optimistic that this is a manageable situation," Banner said. "He's a prideful guy and he's a great player. In the end, hopefully that will override the difference of opinion we have and we can get back on the field together."

doesnt sound like a guy who is sick of TO and wants to make an example of him.

You can always say he is just taking the high road, but we'll find out wednesday. If he truly means what he says then they would think long and hard about suspending him for the season.

I don't think anyone really doesn't want him on the team. They just want him to stop being an ass and/or child every day of the week. "Shut up and play" has never fit so well with this situation.

It seems to me that T.O. is slightly retarded and needs even the most basic instructions explained to him repeatedly.

Therefore, when Banner laid out the expectations of the team with respect to T.O.'s behavior and demeanor, everything had to be spelled out precisely for T.O. so that there's no chance of any misinterpretation on T.O.'s part.

Plus, I think they were laying the law down for Rosenhaus as well so that that little spooge-guzzling shyster has no recourse but to accept the terms of the deal T.O. intitially signed.

In the Marines we are required to document any problems with our subordinates before giving them bad reviews, write them up etc.  It's to show a documented history of problems and the actions taken to attempt to correct those problems.  That way when you write a Marine up or give him bad performace evaluations there is documentation there to support it.

The Eagles are basically doing the same thing.  They have laid down the law and explained to TO in plain English what is and isn't acceptable behavior.  This way if TO crosses the line again they can suspend him or hand out whatever punishment they feel is necessary and TO wouldn't be able to fight it.  He's already acknowledged reciept of the letter so unlike the changes in filing for free agency, he can't claim that he never got it.  Too bad he hired Rosenhaus.  If he still had Joseph they could use that excuse and everyone would believe it.  :paranoid

ESPN are the kings of hype and mainstream stories. They stick with the popular stories, blow them way up, talk about them way too much, and over-analyze. You have to deal with it if you want the coverage they bring.
Title: Re: Banner: We want TO here
Post by: General_Failure on August 16, 2005, 12:18:37 AM
I guess they did it for the same reason they kept repeating the same Stuart Scott 30 second thing - the announcers don't know shtein about football.

"Why are these fans still here?"
Title: Re: Banner: We want TO here

Yeah, ESPN was farging BRUTAL tonight. I already hate Theisman, but they were shteintariffic tonight.

When interviewing players...show the goddamn game. I don't want to see Roethlisberger winking at Kolber while our defense is sacking the QB. And then they don't even talk about it. F ESPN.

The sad thing about it is next year the Eagles will have 3 or so games on ESPN because of them getting MNF. Usually we get the same Eagles @ Skins ESPN game every year at the end of the season.

The one thing that I noticed repeatedly about the announcing tonight is that they continually ignored the game and provided no substantive play-by-play calls.

If I was blind and was relying on that crew to know wtf was going on, I would have been totally lost.

Just non-stop drivel on and on for three-plus hours.   It really is unwatchable and unlistenable at this point.  Just a disgrace.

Title: Re: Banner: We want TO here

You might as well have been blind for the number of poor camera angle and times they cut away or split screened.
Title: Re: Banner: We want TO here
Post by: WEST is GOD on August 16, 2005, 12:38:28 AM
They called Eagles players names of Steelers players about 5 times tonight. OK, you can get a name confused with someone on your own team, but not the other farging team. They did this shtein last season too. Michael Westbrook with the nice gain. I mean Westbrook made a name for himself by then, get his damn name right. Michael Westbrook has been without a job for years now. Maybe next year with Joe out of this group of the 3 morons, the change of scenery will help. Madden is a serious guy, he won't be a clown with John.

Also I can't stand that stupid noise they always play on ESPN games. It's like WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOOOOOO, it sounds like a god damn train.

Guess what? In addition to the Michael/Bryant Westbrook crap we hear...we're also going to have to hear a lot of how good Brian Moats is.

Gary Papa even called him Brian. Good job, Gary. Way to represent the "official Eagles station".

They call Moats Westbrook's name and think that we have a bum ass ex-taterskin receiver and Packers/Lions CB at RB. I have a headache.

I was thinking about that tonight when Papa was all over 'Brian' Moats' sack...how the hell did the station with the worst sports coverage in the city get to be the "official station of the Eagles'?

I know money is the reason, but I liked CBS3 much better. GCobb might be a mushmouth but Beasley Reece and Steve Bucci (when he's not whining) are much better.

News stations are the absolute LAST place you should go for coverage on any sports. I love how when they "break" trade rumors people take it seriously. News stations WILL NOT break any Eagles trade rumors before ESPN, CSN, PFT.com or ESPNews. News stations are the absolute last to get the information. So when you hear Gary Papa or John Clark report the Eagles are interested in _____, they either 1) Got it from another site or 2) Made it up.
Title: Re: Banner: We want TO here

John Clark had Donald Driver on his list of Eagles WR possibilities.  That must've been news to Green Bay.....  ???
Title: Re: Banner: We want TO here
Post by: WEST is GOD on August 16, 2005, 12:54:02 AM
Driver is a real long shot, the only reason he would even remotely be considered is because Ferguson is a lot younger, and if the Packers had to trade one they may stick with the youth because they can't win any Superbowl with that awful defense.

Still John Clark probably reads message boards and pulls up random rumors. Remember when he read responses from TO's site as news? News stations are pathetic, and I haven't watched a full episode of Sports Final since Howard left. He was the only one on news stations with any type of inside info.

I took a nap between 8-11pm, my time and got up to watch ATH, PTI, and Monday Night Countdown--I should have know better. PTI wasn't too bad but--

ATH--Paige--"The Eagles will lose 4-5 road games this year." Hey Woody, the Eagles HAVEN'T LOST MORE THAN 3 ROAD GAMES since 1999--and that was WITHOUT OWENS.

Cowlishaw--"The Eagles won't make it back to the playoffs."

All in all, this is what I heard--blah, blah, blah.....

I was glad to see the WRs catching basically everything they could get their hands on.

TO should be pissed at himself that he's such a child that they needed to define "unacceptable behavior", since it'd be common sense to most people.

Sarge is correct, that was basicaly a "performance improvement plan" for TO, to eliminate any ambiguity as to what the Eagles will tolerate as acceptable behavior. It's been painfully obvious that Owens has been strategically walking a blurry line to be as much of a pain in the ass and distraction as he could be without legally violating the terms of his contract (although I'd suspect most courts would find his insubordination to Reid and Childress to be a violation). Although the contents of the letter has not been made public,  we can assume the ambiguity has now been removed.

That being said, I thought Banner's interview as a lot more positive than I would've anticipated.

On the other topics of the thread:

ESPN football coverage is horrible...did they have any replays on anything other than TDs and the two disputed calls? And, could we blow more smoke up Hines Wards' ass?

The Eagles young WRs had very encouraging performances. I thought maybe TO was laughing when Greg Lewis' first quarter gaff cost the Eagles an INT TD return...but, that was really the only obvious mistake I saw from the WR group the entire night.

Ryan Moats, Reggie Brown, Mike McMahon, and Wost Manneans gave very good first impressions in their Eagles debuts, among others. It looked like the Eagles were blowing up the middle of the Steelers' offensive line all night long, regardless of which "string" was in the game...did anyone get a good look at Patterson's play?

What did they keep calling Robert Redd? Even on the graphic with the WRs and how many balls they had caught in the past year, they had it like Justin Judd or some shtein like that? LIke they got Justin Jenkins and Robert Redd combined into some other name?

Also, when putting up the Pro-Bowlers from last year, they left off Michael Lewis.  ::)

I thought the interview went extremely well and Banner was prepared to answer all her questions. I'm not saying that the interview was set up, but it's possible. Toward the end of the interview, Banner was starting to crack a wry smile.

The Packers are stacked at WR and thin at Defensive Tackle.  What's so surprising about the fact that both teams could actually help each other by trading spare parts?

Also - you really need to get off of Banner's dick, dude.  He's a brilliant man and is roundly respected as a tough negotiator and an astute financial analyst.  You should be thankful for having him on the Eagles team, not busting his fargin chops every chance you get.

In any setting when you plan to Fire someone you need to make sure your "Ducks" are in order so that you can defer any legal actions to a paper trail.  They are setting the parameters of his suspension if he doesnt comply.

He said the Eagles are better on the field with T.O. than they are without him.  Fact.

He said the Eagles sent the letter so that no ambiguities would remain with respect to how the team expects Owens to act.  Fact.

He also said that they hope T.O. comes to his senses, rejoins the team, and helps put them over the top by winning a Super Bowl.  Fact.

Where is he lying in those three sentences?  It seems to me that your hatred of Banner is an irrational one, IGY, and furthermore, it seems as though that hatred is based on something other than Banner's business acumen.

Care to share what that hatred might be based on?   :sly

Didn't they leave off Simon as well? I thought he went last year.

Simon went the year before.

I also would like to apologize for talking back to you.... even though you did egg me on you arrogant piece of shtein, and Donovan is a company man after all so it is warranted.

QuoteSource: Owens Considering Stunt After Reid Meeting
Owens Suspended From Training Camp For Week

POSTED: 5:11 pm EDT August 16, 2005
UPDATED: 7:51 pm EDT August 16, 2005

PHILADELPHIA -- More stormy weather may be in the forecast for the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday in the form of Terrell Owens.

Video: Owens May Pull Stunt After Big Meeting

Controversial Eagles receiver Terrell Owens could be planning a public "statement" Wednesday after his team meeting with Andy Reid that could embarrass the Eagles, NBC 10 has learned.

Owens is expected to return to the practice field after a seven-day suspension. But before he suits up he has to meet with head coach Andy Reid after Wednesday morning's practice in South Philadelphia.

NBC 10 sports director Vai Sikahema said Tuesday afternoon that he spoke with a source close to Owens and that source said that T.O. is considering reading a statement to the media upon his return, in which he'll express his remorse.

But there will be a catch, the sources said. He will do it halfheartedly and there will be no mistaking his contempt for the Eagles' organization in the way he reads the statement publicly.

T.O. was suspended from the team last Wednesday after several days away with a reported groin injury, and after passing on his obligation to sign autographs for the fans.

That angered Reid, triggering T.O.'s suspension. A letter sent to Owens over the weekend at his Atlanta home, detailed his alleged acts of insubordination during training camp.

For more on the Eagles' options if Owens doesn't meet their expectations, go to www.nbc10.com/eaglesblog

Why can't this guy just STFU and come in and play out the year and go to UFA next year? He knows he'll be cut by now so him and Drew can go to UFA and seek the millions.

Damn. Like I said before, I don't care if he's here or if he's Keyshawn'd...but quit with the soap opera. Get it done either way.

If true, Terrell Owens won't play in 2005.  He may never play in the NFL again.  After his stunts in both San Francisco and Philly, the onlu owner crazy enough to bring him in would be Al Davis- and his WR corps is pretty full.

Hopefully this story is just media hype- and the media feeding frenzy is as much at fault for this as anything else in this whole debacle.  The tabloid mentaltiy of organizations that are suppsed to be "respectable" is not only disheartening but sickening.

Now that this is public, the Eagles will be certainly on the lookout for it.  No way T.O. gets through unscathed.

According to a piece in this morning's Delcto Times, it is the EAGLE PLAYERS who want Owens to apologize. Maybe he don't have as many teammates as he thought watching his back:

http://www.delcotimes.com

A quote from the story:

"There are rumblings, although unconfirmed, that Eagles players want Owens to apologize."
Title: Re: Banner: We want TO here

QuoteHe ignored reporters' questions and waved to fans as he drove away, stopping at the end of his block where he rolled down the window, signed some autographs and sped off. About a half-hour later, Owens returned, accompanied by agent Drew Rosenhaus, who was carrying takeout food.

We need a caption for this line in the AP story about TO's return. LOL

And to what Ed just said:

QuoteREPORTS OF T.O. STUNT ARE FALSE

Thanks to our buddies at pick2pick.com for tipping us off to a report originating out of NBC 10 in Philly regarding the latest potential episode in the T.O. saga.

Vai Sikahema, the sports director at NBC 10 and former NFL special-teamer extraordinaire, says that Eagles receiver Terrell Owens will emerge from his Wednesday meeting with coach Andy Reid reading a written statement of feigned remorse.

And though we're in the business or mongering rumors, not debunking them, we've learned -- unequivocally -- that this report is false and that Owens will not be conducting any such "stunts" for the media on Wednesday.

With that said, we don't expect Owens to be a good soldier if/when Reid allows him to rejoin the team, and we fully expect the Eagles to be poised to pounce on any actual or perceived misconduct by T.O. in support of further adverse action against him.

Not that I believe a word PFT says, but they are like the Enquirer in the sense that they are always waiting....teeth bared. So if Vai's story was true, they'd be all over it and thensome.

I still want to know what Vai thought there was to gain by reporting that.  Here are the possible outcomes:

A) It was false all along, and Vai looks like a... local sports guy trying too hard.
B) T.O./Drew learn their plan has been leaked, so T.O. decides to wait to push the boundaries until another time.

From Brookover in today's Inquirer:

QuoteAccording to a league source, the Eagles think Owens will be better behaved when he returns because of some things they've heard recently from people who are close to the wide receiver.

"The close circle of people around him expect him to be different than when he left," the source said. "They said he would be a pain in the neck when he got there and now they are saying something different. They're not saying he'll be smiling and cheerful, but they think there's a good chance he'll be different."

We can only hope that's true...

Comcast will be having live coverage at 8am and the PCs at 11am too...

Eckel (http://www.nj.com/eagles/times/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/112426594544460.xml&coll=5&thispage=1)

QuoteWhat happens in the players' meeting today could have some influence on what happens when Owens meets with Reid, which is expected to occur before the morning practice, but could happen after practice, depending on the timing.

It's not totally certain what members of the team make up the committee, because at least two of last year's members - linebacker Ike Reese and tight end Chad Lewis - no longer are with the team. Believed to be involved this year are quarterback Donovan McNabb, safety Brian Dawkins, kicker David Akers, tackle Tra Thomas and defensive tackle Hollis Thomas. It's unknown who, if any, players will replace Reese and Lewis.

Feelings among the players regarding Owens, his behavior and his desire for a new contract vary. There is a very small contingent who is behind the All-Pro wide receiver and feels the team needs him desperately if it is to defend its NFC championship. The majority of the team prefers to stay out of it. And then there is a group of more than a few who are bothered by Owens' actions, his treatment of McNabb and his belligerent ways toward the team and the organization.

TO is on the field and practicing.  Reid and TO were the last 2 on the field, Dreckel...I mean, Eckel, says that that probably means they met already. TO had a big smile on his face when he ran onto the field. Eckel said he barely smiled at camp, but he's smiling ear to ear.

Eckel is on WIP...

TO is practicing..he was the last player out to the field at 0844. He came out about 30 seconds after Andy Reid and Butch.

Eckel speculates that he thinks they had the meeting before and that TO came out afterwards...because him and Andy were the last two people out.

He said TO had a huge smile on his face and this is the first time he's seen him smile like that.

AR probably said to T.O. something like this:

"By now, you know what we're going to do here.  We're going to expect you to re-join your team and be the difference-maker on offense that you were last year.  We are absolutely not going to to renegotiate your deal until next off-season.  If you go out there and prove to us and the rest of the league that your on-field talent still far outweighs all this mess you've caused up until now off the field, you are are either going to get your big-ass roster bonus from us next year or an even bigger signing bonus somewhere else.  So, how about you go out there and do what's best for Terrell Owens and what's best for the Philadelphia Eagles, and get yourself a Super Bowl ring and about three and a half mill in the process... Sound good to you, kid?

T.O.:  "Yup."

I would say they told him he'd have to get out there and earn it this season, though.  If he continues to be truculent (sp?) towards his teammates (and especially his QB), he's not going to see that roster bonus or ANY lump sum of money that large or larger for the rest of his NFL career.

Bob Glauber is reporting for Cold Pizza outside the NCC and he said that "TO jogged onto the field and for the first time sinec February he looked like a football player". He said that he looks like he is ready to go.

I couldn't catch what he was saying before that, but it sounded like that they have not met yet or that they will meet again around 12-noon. I couldn't catch what he was saying though so I could be wrong...

Wow, huh? Front page story on ESPN, and they are saying TO won't be practicing because he has a meeting first. Way to be way out of touch with reality.  ::) He's been on the field for over 30 minutes and this is what they are feeding the national public

Interesting from an ESPN poll:

10) If all were equally talented, who would you rather have playing for your favorite team?

42.7%   A player who causes no problems on the field but has a rap sheet off the field.  :o
37.6%   A player who causes headaches in the clubhouse but is a good citizen off the field.
19.7%   A player who causes no problems on or off the field but is widely known to use steroids.
Title: Practice update
Post by: PhillyGirl on August 17, 2005, 09:37:55 AM
Update on practice:

Played with the first team and did reps...he's chattier and talking with other teammates.

Stopped for a few minutes, went to Burkholder to do some stretching on the groin...then went back to the first team doing more reps.

Brian Startare on WIP...

He said TO is running with the 1st team...he then ran over to Rick Burkholder and did some stretching on his groin.

He then jogged back over and re-joined the 1st team offense.

Startare also says that he is talking to his teammates and seems a whole lot more "chatty" that at any point before today.

Why don't we wait to see what happened before practice? And what happens at the PC...before making that assumption that he's acting like nothing happened.

Meanwhile, now that he's smiling and talking to teammates, he's wrong again? What did you want him to do when he reported?  :-\

How quickly you forget. I didn't want him to report. I want him to sit his ass at home and rot. If he had reported to camp originally and acted like this, that would have been acceptable. But to throw a tantrum and get kicked out in the first week and then come back and blow sunshine up everyone's ass is ridiculous and infuriating.

Once again. I don't think that he'll match last year's numbers and based on his career numbers it would be silly to assume that he will be able to duplicate them. I don't want him on this team and nothing that you say about his touchdowns or his abs will change my mind.

QuoteREID'S MEETING WITH T.O. 'GOOD'
August 17, 2005
By CHRIS McPHERSON

Head coach Andy Reid said that he met privately for a few minutes with wide reciever Terrell Owens on Wednesday before the team's morning practice.

Reid considered it a "good" meeting. When asked if Owens said all of the right things in the meeting, Reid just said that he was out on the practice field.

Owens practiced, but was held to limited reps by Reid to keep a close watch on his groin injury. Owens did collide with cornerback Sheldon Brown during what was considered by Reid an "aggressive" practice. Brown suffered a leg laceration, but will be fine.

Reid kept everything else about the Owens situation close to the vest saying that any future communications with teammates or coaches about Owens would be done in-house.

"We're going to take it day-by-day and see how things go," Reid said. "It was good to see him back out there. He did a nice job and worked hard."

It has not been determined whether Owens will play this Saturday night in the team's preseason matchup against Baltimore.

TO is temporarily back on my shtein list.

Until that cut on Sheldon Brown's leg has healed.

Chris Mortensen's live chat is on. This is a reply he had to an Owens question:

CHRIS MORTENSEN
Yes, T.O. practiced. I've spoken with league and player assn. officials who say that in order for the Eagles to take the next step in suspending him, they almost had to let T.O. back on the practice field to see if his actions correspond with this words. I guess I'm expecting TO for that MNF game but Andy Reid will nail him if the prior behavior continues.

Yeah...did it ever occur to you that i might be asian and that a word like that (while used mostly in the vietnam war) still offends me?  I think part of the TOS agreement that you agreed to prohibits you from using any racial terms.  Maybe you need to read it again.

The N word was used in the past...but if you say it to a black person now, you get killed.  So...what's the difference for an Asian person?  I forgot, you respect noone.  I think you need to watch your mouth with that stuff man.

Just go give some people some background on the "To Must Go" shtein.  A local crap pop radio station, q 102.1 had a contest to who could make the best and biggest "To Must Go" sign.  I forget what the prize was, but it was probably to the Ashlee Simpson or Frankie J concert.  They even made a remix of Lil John's song, "Let's Go," replacing the refrain with "TO.... MUST GO."

PS. The Lil John song is already a remix in itself, since they take parts of Crazy Train by Ozzy.   :sly

AHAHHAHHAHHHAHAAA!

Look at the new story:

QuotePolice deny 'special treatment' for T.O. at airport
By Thomas J. Gibbons
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

Did Eagles receiver Terrell Owens receive special treatment from Philadelphia police when he got a short ride in a police car Tuesday evening after he got off a plane from Atlanta, avoiding media and fans waiting inside the airport terminal?

Not so, said police Inspector William Colarulo.

"It was not special treatment," said Colarulo at a media briefing outside Police Headquarters late this morning.

It was all about safety and security issues, he added.

"Last night, when Mr. Owens showed up at the airport, there were numerous people, representatives from the media as well as fans, spectators and other people that had to use the terminal," explained Colarulo, commander of the police Public Affairs Unit.

"The airport police supervisor made an assessment - and a correct one, I may add - that based on the circumstances, based on security issues and safety issues, he made a decision to have Mr. Owens escorted to the front of the terminal where Mr. Owens was allowed to get into his own vehicle and leave the airport," Colarulo said.

Police said Owens was taken down some steps at the gate to a waiting police car on the tarmac.

Once Owens got into his car, he was on his own, police said.

WHY is this even a story? I'd EXPECT him to have some protection coming back with swarms of fans all over the place.

I don't think that he'll match last year's numbers and based on his career numbers it would be silly to assume that he will be able to duplicate them.

Your kiddin' right? Your must have forgot about Jeff Garcia, the guy he put up most of his stats with. IMO, he does better than last year if he plays all 16 games.

QuoteIn the opening segments of practice, Owens loped through skeleton plays, primarily aligned in the left or right slots, taking every other snap off. Then he worked a while with trainer Rick Burkholder, off the side, stretching with a big, green inflated ball. After that, a "team" drill, in which he snagged his first pass of the day (at precisely 9:13), but not until it ricocheted off his chest before Owens grabbed it out of the air on the rebound. At 9:38, McNabb whipped a strike between defenders to Owens in the left-hook zone. And at 9:45, the two hooked up on a bullet over the middle.

Unbelievably gay that he wrote this.

Garcia sucks. McNabb is 10 times the qb that flag is. And I didin't say TO thrived inspite of Garcia, but he thrives because of McNabb, and will continue to do so this year if he ends up playing all year long. It's kinda' rediculous to think otherwise.

And no, I'm not sorry if I offended any gay people.

TO will not catch 14 TDs this year. I've given my reasoning for this repeatedly in one of the numerous other threads dedicated to this topic.
Title: Re: Banner: We want TO here
Post by: shorebird on August 17, 2005, 04:19:41 PM
If he plays all year long he gets more than last years 1200 yds., I'd say he does around 1500, and you might think I'm rediculous to say that he just might get more than 14 TD's. Look at the other recievers on this team. All good young players, yes, but not experianced. Greg Lewis is a seasoned veteran compared to every reciever except TO. Who's number do you think will be called more? TO had 77 receptions last year without playing the last two games of the season. He gets more this year, which I feel translates into higher stats.

My predictions:
1400 plus yds.
100 plus recepts.
14 td's is a lot for anyone playing 14 or 16 games. This is the one stat you could say he might not improve on, but that would mean more TD's for another player. Still, I'll say for the sake of debate that he betters that stat also.

I just don't see how you can feel he won't better last years stats when he didn't even play all the games. And Pinky is out this year also. The door is wide open for him to have a career year.

It's simple really.

Inexperienced WRs. Plus TO coming off a monster year. That equals even more attention than he already gets. (The beginning of last year was when TO did most of his damage, especially touchdowns-wise. Why? Because the common belief was that AR would still spread the ball around evenly and TO woule be a huge upgrade but wouldn't dominate our offense. Oops, so much for that idea. But what happened late in the season? Teams like the skins basically just blanketed him and let the rest of the O do their thing... we struggled mightily in that game.) He'll get more attention b/c no one will respect the other WRs. AR, if he's got a brain in his head, will take advantage of that.

And don't discount all of this drama having an effect on his output. TO will work hard on the field b/c his ego won't let him do anything else, but what about #5's outlook on things? What about AR using the extra attention on TO to his advantage?

TO will have a good year if he plays for us b/c he's a really good WR. But don't espect what you saw last year.

Look if everything is peachy, they play as well or better than last year, and he(& Donovan) are healthy. He won't approach 14 tds. They will still rest him when blow-outs occur and when we lock up playoff standings. He won't get gratuitous numbers. Reid doesn't cater to fantasy owners and stat monkeys. Our schedule is fairly easy considering we went to the Bowl. NFC west and afc West plus our division doesn't strike me as hard-core competition....Yes this is slightly confident, but why wouldn't I be? \m/  :cfhead NFC Ownage

So the national media keeps putting TO in the headlines as not talking to coaches or players...basically doing what he did last week at Lehigh....but all of the local guys who were there say this?

QuoteBut T.O. is back with the team. Yesterday he worked hard and chatted and joked with several teammates (not including McNabb). Apparently, he didn't say anything to Reid that would keep him from being reinstated; contrary to a Channel 10 prediction on Tuesday, Owens did not read any sort of sarcastic "apology" to the media or acknowledge reporters in any way.

Classic.

QuoteT.O., REID MEETING UNEVENTFUL, BUT . . . .

Working the cell phone while on an outing with the family at a Western Pennsylvania amusement park, we learned that the much-hyped and highly-anticipated summit between Eagles coach Andy Reid and prodigal receiver Terrell Owens was, in the end, much ado about nothing.

Reid, we're told by a source close to the action, was respectful to Owens, and Owens told Reid that Owens intends to honor his contract, but that the Pro Bowler still isn't happy with the terms of his current deal, which will pay him $3.25 million in salary in 2005 and another $250,000 in so-called "likely to be earned incentives."

Though Owens apparently has gotten the message, for now, that he needs to behave and perform, we don't rule out another eruption at some point in the remaining months of 2005.  Some of our readers have even floated the possibility that Owens would play out the regular season and then withhold services in the playoffs until he gets a new deal; we've learned, however, that this option isn't on the table for Owens, since a walk out at any point between now and the conclusion of the postseason would permit the team to freeze his contract in place, requiring him to play under the 2005 terms again in 2006.

The most likely outcome at this point is that Owens will play hard this year and try to help the team win the Super Bowl.  Then, after the season, it's unlikely that the Eagles will pay him $7.5 million in option and roster boni, making him an early March free agent.  And at that point, Owens will have a chance to get more than that on the open market from another team.

As of right now, there likely aren't many/any other teams that would pay him more than $7.5 million up front.  But if he has another strong year and if he manages to put the ugliness of the past few weeks behind him, other teams (e.g., the taterskins) will come calling in 2006, with a truckload of cash in tow.

Until then, of course, Owens assumes the risk of injury or ineffectiveness.  And that's one of the big reasons he wanted to re-do his deal in '05.  If, after all, he blows out a knee next week, neither the Eagles nor anyone else will pay him $7.5 million in March 2006.  But now that he apparently realizes that there will be no new deal in Philly, he'll go about his business and try to make himself as attractive as possible to another team come 2006.

What about the possibility that the Eagles will pay him $7.5 million and keep his rights for '06 and beyond, you ask?  If Owens has the kind of season for the ages that makes the Eagles forget all about recent events, Owens will want much more than $7.5 million in March 2006; thus, if the team chooses to tie him up contractually, they'll be buying themselves another major offseason headache.

So our best guess is that, if Owens manages not to get himself suspended, it's one more year and done in Philly.  Where he goes from there -- and how much money he receives -- remains to be seen.

since a walk out at any point between now and the conclusion of the postseason would permit the team to freeze his contract in place, requiring him to play under the 2005 terms again in 2006.

thats bs if its true..if at any point during the season he were to walk out he should have to forfeit this seasons entire salary...not just have the same terms going into next year

That's exactly what I got from that though...

"Requiring him to play under the 2005 terms again in 2006"

Seems to me that he'll have to work for that $3.25 mil all over again.

right but it doesnt say there would be any penalty for salary already earned...if he walked out on the team in the playoffs he should have to pay back some of or all his signing bonus and the money he made for the 05 regular season

Puuleeeze! This is a non-issue! TO will not walk out in the playoffs!
A) That will be his only chance for a big payday. It is his only chance for redemption. If he's not in the playoffs and not in the Superbowl he has accomplished nothing. A good regular season will not be enough to wipe the slate clean.
B)There is no way TO's ego would allow him to miss the playoffs.

You're sounding like sportscenter, trying to make something out of nothing.

Plus what team would take a guy whos vindictiveness would allow him skip out on a team in the playoffs. Even Ricky Williams thinks that's messed up.  :crazy

Unless he's dead, there is no way that TO would walk out during the playoffs.  It would absolutely be the end of his football career.  He couldn't even fake an injury and get away with it since he's already proven last year that he can come back and perform.  I think it TO makes it through the first 8 games of the season without incident then he'll be around for the entire year.

The only week that really concerns me is the bye week.  I'm hoping that TO doesn't get starved for media attention during the 2 week break and goes out and says/does something stupid.

Count me among the group that thinks he will not be able to walk out of the playoffs if he is dead. I know this is prob contrary to what some people still believe. God bless 'em. We all have to believe in something. Good point about the bye week. We all know something is going to happen sometime. If we make through 8 weeks, I guess we should consider ourselfs lucky.

TO, due to his adamant adherence to incessent stupidity, will be benched long before the playoffs.

Just for the record...if anyone is dead, he is -- inherently--  not walking anywhere.  Unless he's the living dead, but that's a whole different issue.

Go and watch "Dawn of the Dead" and tell me that dead people can't walk or even run.

Now can they catch a football is what we should really be concerned about.

Zombies seem to be able to catch people all the time no matter how fast or slow they move. Just coat a ball with brains and/or blood and we're good to go!
