Sounds like he might be a candidate for the PUP list. This sucks on many levels, but it DOES mean that Green will have another shot to make a dent in the rotation, and it means Cole makes the team. Sounds like the docs in Miami did a pretty good job patching him up at least. Will be interesting to hear his prognosis.
If he is in good condition already, probably means nothing major hit (kidney, liver). Good news.

As MURP said (and espn news), the latest police report says that there were THREE shots fired at him...only one hit. He was trying to get out of the car after being shot the first time, and one of the kids fired twice more at him, but missed and hit his door. Thank God....Doogs would be dead right now.
This is a complete nightmare. Even though he hasn't shown to be the PLAYER that JB was...I still had such an AWFUL feeling when I heard this news...the same feeling I Had when I heard about JB's accident (before I heard he was dead).
Get well Doogs. :(

Does it matter? He could have had it legally. If he did not, does it show some character flaw or lack of intelligence? Are people worried that McDougle will be charged with some crime?
Ala Sean Taylor, FLA has minimum jail sentences for illegally pointing and/or shooting at people. I think that's the concern. Even if he had a gun, sounds like he could claim self-defense in this instance.
I think that the second round of shots was intitially confused as McDougle or someone with him firing back at the suspects, when it was actually the suspects firing more shots at McDougle. Anyway, this story is no different than anything else, facts and fiction blur until everything is sorted out.

FWIW, I was just talking to my stepdad (doctor)who said that the fact that he is talking and has been upgraded to "good" is really, REALLY good news. Because it means they missed his intestines which, if hit, would have been a LOT more serious and would have caused extended surgery and usually infection when hit with a bullet. He said that Doogs COULD be back in a couple of months.

He's speculating on the fact that if its just the abdomen that was hit, its the best possible scenario from being shot in the stomach. It heals faster than if the bullet had hit a little lower and gotten to his intestines.

I just heard about this. I really feel bad for McDougle because I was one who thought he was ready to break out this year. He is one unlucky dude. The injuries in 2003 killed his rookie year, the knee injury and irregular heartbeat in 2004 and now he's shot in the gut by a few punkass bitches.
I almost wish he did have his gun on him and he took one (or all of) the little bitches out with headshots. Spray their useless brains all over the concrete.

He can begin active football rehabilitation in four weeks. There is no damage to his internal organs, according to team spokesman Derek Boyko.
His timetable to returning to the field is still unknown. Eagles team internist Gary Dorshimer has been in contact with McDougle's doctors in Miami. The Eagles have not spoken with McDougle.
Stockar McDougle, Jerome's brother and an offensive tackle for the Miami Dolphins, has returned to training camp after leaving to be with his brother.
"I want to thank Coach (Nick) Saban for giving me the time off I needed to be with my brother and the rest of my family," McDougle said in a statement. "I'm just glad to be back on the field with the rest of my teammates.
""I also want to thank everyone for their prayers and concern for Jerome's health, and fortunately, it looks like he is on his way to making a full and speedy recovery."
In the meantime on the football field, defensive coordinator Jim Johnson said N.D. Kalu will take over the starting spot in McDougle's absence.
Head coach Andy Reid updated his situation during his Friday press conference and said that McDougle is in stable condition.
"I'm glad he is doing very well," Reid said. "I'm optimistic that he'll recover and be ready to play football."
McDougle was scheduled to report for training camp with the other veterans on Monday night. Reid acknowledged that McDougle spent a lot of time in the offseason working out and that he was in great shape.
According to the Associated Press, three armed robbers approached McDougle in his silver Mercedes. After demanding his property, McDougle was shot by one of the robbers.
Two more shots were fired at McDougle as he tried to get out of the car, but the shots missed him and hit inside the door of his car. The robbers, who are likely in their teens, are still at large.
McDougle was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he underwent emergency surgery.
As for the impact of McDougle's injury on the team, Reid said that teammates had contacted him and were concerned. But once the rookies and selected veterans take the field for practice football, Reid said everything will be fine.
"It's tragic," said rookie WR Reggie Brown, who reported with the rookies and selected veterans Friday. "I just hope he'll be alright. I really don't know how serious it is. It's something you don't want to hear.
"I think everyone will be able to rest easy as long as he's going to be alright."
McDougle spent most of the offseason woking out at the NovaCare Complex with hopes of taking over the starting spot at defensive end opposite Jevon Kearse this season. He had two sacks in 2004.
McDougle was selected as the Eagles first-round draft pick and the fifteenth overall selection of the 2003 NFL Draft. The Eagles traded up 15 spots in order to draft the star defensive end from the University of Miami.
In his two NFL seasons, McDougle has been plagued by injuries - an irregular heart beat and a knee sprain. In all, McDougle has missed 13 games.
Active football rehab doesn't mean putting on the pads and getting on the field and hitting. So, I highly doubt he'll be there and playing for opening day.
This is, however, great news and I'm so happy for the guy that the prognosis is so good. He's one lucky SOB.

The Inquirer reported this morning that the Miami-Dade robbery unit reported making a second arrest yesterday, so it looks like they had a pretty good bead on who was involved. I'm sure the first two will give up the third shortly, if they haven't already.
Just glad that McDougle is ok, and sounds like he's making a remarkable early recovery so far.

Linebacker Keith Adams said Monday that he had spoken with Jerome's wife and wanted to let his family know the team's wishes and prayers are with them.
"They are holding up as best as they can," Adams said.

That will be a help to the whole situation, but right now we are expecting him back in there and being a part of it."
Reid had said earlier the Eagles wanted to bring McDougle to Lehigh to rehab when he was ready to travel. Reid said yesterday that wasn't imminent.
"We have not set a date on that," he said.

i agree with thawk...i would think because they committed a felony, they deserve a broomstick in the butt as much as then next guy.
It's not a matter of deserve, though. That determination has to be made in court, and they haven't made it that far yet.

Excellent. I'm guessing they are targeting the first game after the bye week (which is week 6). Assuming McDougle starts the season on the PUP list, that will be the first game he's eligible to play. I almost had my life taken away from me, so every day that I woke up I was very, very thankful," said McDougle, the third-year defensive end who returned to Philadelphia on Monday morning to begin his rehabilitation program with the team's head athletic trainer, Rick Burkholder. "I spoke to Coach Reid and to Rick and some of my teammates, but for the most part I was working through other things.
"To be back here and see all of these familiar faces, it's a great feeling. I feel like I can get on with the football side of things now. I'm back mentally. I'm ready to go. I know it's going to be a process I have to go through, but I'm ready."
On the night of July 28, McDougle was in his silver Mercedes when he was approached by three armed robbers. After demanding that McDougle turn over his belongings, the robbers shot at McDougle once.
Two more shots were fired at McDougle as he tried to get out of the car, but the shots missed him and hit inside the door of his car. The robbers, later apprehended, then fled. All three were in their teens.
After the shooting, McDougle was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he underwent emergency surgery.
"It's sad that some people think you have to take something from somebody to prosper," said McDougle. "There are bad kids everywhere. My brother (Stockar, offensive lineman for the Dolphins) and I do a lot of camps and we give them the message that if you work hard, good things will happen to you.
"Honestly, things happened so fast that I didn't think about anything other than living. I was in survival mode. That's the way you feel. You just want to live. Waking up every day is a blessing to me."
McDougle said he has been unable to do much physically other than power walk and other light exercises. His weight is down only slightly, but he'll have to go through a rigorous and steady rehab process to get back on the field with the Eagles.
After a strong spring performance, McDougle was listed as the No. 1 right defensive end on the team. He vows to get back to the level he was at prior to the shooting.
"I will do that. I will do whatever it takes to reach that level and succeed," said McDougle, the team's No. 1 draft pick in 2003. "I am going to work hard and give it everything I have. I want to be on the field again. I want to be successful.
"At the same time, I have to take it slow and listen to what Rick and the doctors tell me. I have to follow their plan, and I will."
The Eagles have not announced any timetable for McDougle's return, other than to express confidence that he will play this season. McDougle will likely start the season on the Phyiscally Unable to Perform list, meaning he'll miss at least the first six weeks of the season.
Given that the season starts in two weeks, the question is whether McDougle will be ready for action in two months.

I was just given word that McDougle had emergency surgery today. I don't know on what or why....but I was just told this.
and as soon as I got that news, its posted on PE.com.....out for the year...hernia caused by wounds from the gunshot.
I was told it was some type of hernia with some complication with the scar tissue from the gun shot wound.

I was listening to the radio on the way home from work and Eskin said that he saw McDougle on Saturday at the Temple-Miami game and he was fine. He said Jerome told him he couldn't wait to get back to work on Monday.
So obviously he had the complications on Sunday or this morning.

No pass rush from him would be fine if the others were getting after him.
Kalu is a good anchor versus the run. He stays in on 1st & 2nd and Cole comes in to use his speed to get to the QBs.
