Refs have always been bad but I think this year they've taken it to the next level. The 3rd down phantom holding/PI is atrocious. Payton was really laying into the refs and rightfully so.

the refs are actually quite good at identifying normal penalties...there are of course mistakes but on the whole theyre good at that

the issue is the rules are so preposterous with RTP and taunting type shtein that its impossible to call. everyone winds up blaming "the refs" when its the league that should draw the ire. the refs are employees doing what their bosses tell them.

taunting of course needs to be aborted like an unwanted fetus. the other shtein they need to fix with the replay official. they fix boundry calls and other stuff with the replay official before it goes to a challenge...no reason not to let the replay guy fix it when its clear it wasnt roughing.

I'll go further and say I don't think the refs have been particularly bad this year. It's just the taunting crap that stands out, which was something that came out of the competition committee.

Feels like phantom calls are down (of course they shouldn't exist at all).

this rule is heavily founded in racism...its basically rich white guys angry about having to pay young black guys a lot of money so they are going to show them that we own you so shut the hell up stay in your place

ill also add if a white dood and a black dood do the same exact celebration or "taunt" and the league and the refs look at both they whether consciously or unconsciously are going to see black guys thing as more of penalty than the yt

Yeah the taunting came about from John Mara. He got his owner buddies on board with it when he whined about it at his press conference during camp.

Let them shtein talk. Make a good play? Flaunt it. Defense gets a turnover and they all run down and pimp it in the end zone and that is not a flag. But a guy makes a tackle and he says something, or even LOOKS like he says something (Genard Avery) and those clowns flag it. That makes no sense.

Has nothing to do with the refs...he loses his shtein at even the smallest criticism of the nfl
