The next step in the NFL pretending there's going to be a season is three weeks on IR for anyone who tests positive for the Coronas, so you might as well start betting now which team fails to report it and gets half the team sick, several spouses, and kills an at risk relative.

It didn't take long for the first player to sign on for the official Opt Out deal rather than get Covid for the team:  Canadian medical doctor / 6th round pick / starting RG from the Chiefs, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif decided $150k stipend and contract tolling to 2021 > 2.3M and Covid.  His statement:

En raison de la crise sanitaire mondiale que nous vivons actuellement, la NFL et l'Association des joueurs de la NFL se sont entendus sur plusieurs protocoles d'envergure liés à la santé et à la sécurité afin de protéger les joueurs. Je suis convaincu que l'équipe médicale des Chiefs a mis en place un plan solide afin de minimiser les risques de santé associés à la COVID-19. Cependant, des risques persistent et, en tant que futur professionnel de la santé, je ne peux pas me permettre de devenir un vecteur potentiel de transmission dans nos communautés.

Cette décision a été l'une des plus difficiles que j'ai dû prendre dans ma vie. Ceci dit, considérant les risques de santé, je dois faire ce qui est le mieux pour moi. C'est pour cela que j'ai décidé de prendre l'option de ne pas jouer cette saison selon la clause « Opt Out » négociée par l'Association des joueurs et la ligue, qui est disponible pour l'ensemble des joueurs de la NFL

Mon expérience sur les premières lignes au printemps dernier m'a apporté une perspective différente face à la pandémie et le stress qu'elle met sur le système de santé. Si je suis amené à me retrouver dans une situation comportant des risques significatifs, je le ferai en traitant des patients.

Je veux prendre le temps de remercier l'organisation des Chiefs de Kansas City pour leur soutien et leur compréhension.

Given the worldwide sanitary crisis we are currently experiencing, the NFL and the NFLPA have agreed to significant health and safety protocols to protect the players. There is no doubt in my mind the Chiefs' medical staff have put together a strong plan to minimize the health risks associated with COVID-19 but some risks will remain.

This is one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make in my life but I must follow my convictions and do what I believe is right for me personally. That is why I have decided to take the Opt Out Option negotiated by the League and the NFLPA and officially opt out of the 2020 NFL season.

Being at the frontline during this offseason has given me a different perspective on this pandemic and the stress it puts on individuals and our healthcare system. I cannot allow myself to potentially transmit the virus in our communities simply to play the sport that I love. If I am to take risks, I will do it caring for patients.

I want to thank everyone in the Kansas City Chiefs organization for their support and understanding.
