It isn't about an end date, it's about not overloading hospitals so the people in them have a chance to recover. I know you don't care about other people, but thankfully your opinion doesn't count.

Hospitals aren't overloaded, they're starting to do elective surgeries again.

Again ITS NOT GOING TO MAGICALLY DISAPPEAR...there needs to be a balance. Unemployment just hit a record high.

...you do realize they haven't gotten overloaded specifically because of the policies that you're now clamoring to end, right? And if you end too soon with people out there infected and not being tested/traced...the hospitals could then get overloaded very quickly?

What is "too soon" munson? Please tell me the date. They're going to lift restrictions soon. I can't see PA going past June 4th without major blowback.

Please refer back to my post about how just picking a date and hoping it's okay by that date isn't how pandemics work and certainly isn't how public policy should or will be shaped.

I can imagine that eventually we'll have enough testing, diagnostic and anti-body (and that eventually we'll know for sure whether people who have the anti-body are immunized by it, and whether they can communicate the virus or not), but I cannot imagine that the U.S. will ever establish the level of tracing that South Korea and others have adopted.  A., that requires leadership but we have a rotten Joffrey child in power, served by Wormtongues and Villeforts and B. idiot America thinks freedom means liberty to do anything you want regardless how it affects others.

Testing, maybe.  Tracing...not gonna happen.

Unfortunately you are probably right on a national level. On a state level though at least some governors are taking the contact tracing part seriously. So at least some areas of the country will be able to do it somewhat well. Most of the idiots are all bark no bite I'm sure you know, so they might jack themselves off about their freedums and liburties but the minute they get the diagnosis of having a virus that could kill them or their family, I'm sure they'll be willing to tell the nice state government worker where they shot whiskey with Hoss and Billie Bob last weekend. Can't get em all of course but most of them.

Our governor just announced last hour that we'll be able to test 80,000 residents a month going forward. That's a huge farging deal in a state of 950,000, and great news.

Maryland has been working for weeks to develop a tracing plan.  We'll do better than many other states, but there's a lot of room for that to be not good enough.

No f'n way you get buy in from the ignorant white people of the Eastern Shore.  No way you get buy in from the ignorant black people of the Baltimore ghettos.  Both of these groups of people, to the delight of Powerful folks like Trump and Putin, utterly detest and distrust government officials, and "elites," (i.e., scientists, doctors, etc.)

Every traced contact that can be identified, and will comply, is of course better than none, and I fully support a massive attempt to do it....would not suggest we don't try with everything we've got.  But I'm pessimistic.

If you could count on the people in this country to follow your sensible common sense plan, this should would already be over. Since they can't, we all get to stay the farg home.

Just got back from target, everyone was in masks, theres wipes for carts which everyone was using, there's plastic barriers between register/customers, everyone stood on their red dot 6 ft back, all self checkouts were wiped between customers. Aside from the every once in a while story of someone without a mask in public or acting stupid most people have been following guidelines.

That's nice.  You're in a Philly suburb.  I can absolutely assure you it's not like that everywhere.  And certainly not where I live.

Geowhizzer

Hit the grocery store yesterday for some needed supplies.  I'd say that 1 in 3 were wearing masks.  At best.

Yeah I know we're giving SD a hard time for wanting to open things up but really the bad part is deciding Florida is the first place you want to go while this is still happening haha. Go to like a lake in Maine!

Not but forreal hopefully the heat/humidity really does make it harder for the virus to transmit. But the potential crowds at a place like Disney probably cancel out most of that advantage. Especially some of the indoor areas/rides.

I was at the Target on the BLVD in northeast Philly. Not exactly what I'd call a clean area.

My buddy invited me down to Florida for any weekend I chose. He lives in St Augustine. Round trip is like $200. Disney springs is opening in a limited capacity on the 20th. I'm monitoring the park policies for when they open. Not sure about wearing a mask in Florida in June.

Munson

We stopped in St. Augustine on our road trip, that was a neat little town. We did the lighthouse and the old fort national monument while we were there, pretty cool stuff.

Yeah mask in Florida in June is just gonna be sweat through in minutes

Granted, I'm a lot further down the peninsula than Orlando, but we've been in the 90-94 ranger more days than not since about mid-April.  Hot, muggy, sticky.

I fully admit I haven't worn a mask when I'm going for walks in the neighborhood because of the heat and humidity.  Of course, I live in an area where there is very little foot traffic, so social distancing really doesn't come into play very often, and the few times I come across people I give a lot of room.

But in an air-conditioned grocery store where there are more old people than you can shake a stick at?  Wear your damn mask, people!

Munson

Our gov said in addition to the 80,000 tests a month and announcing contract tracing efforts on Monday, the hope is they'll shift into "phase 1" on June 1st assuming all goes well. Doesn't seem like Phase 1 is very different from what we're doing right now with the exception that maybe some restaurants can open but all it says is "restaurants will have strict guidelines", not that they'll actually be open

Driving home this evening was the busiest it's been since this started.  Everything is open.  No one is wearing masks or social-distancing.

Some Republican hack is running for county chair. He was out on the foot of the bridge to the island politicking with his supporters.  No masks.  No social-distancing.  LOTS of Trump hats.  Every car had Florida's "Choose Life"  license plates on their vehicles.

I'm saying it out loud now:  Everyone who is scoffing at this plague deserves to farging die outright for their recklessness.  Thin the herd.
